Chapter 18.2 : Old

Not long after, Haru got up from the bench, a female soldier suddenly walked into the room and helped her slowly but surely walk out of the room.

As she saw this scene, Diana did not say anything, instead, she saw back down onto her chair as she began waiting.

Thankfully, Diana did not have to wait for long in the slightest, instead, only around two minutes after Diana had sat down, three people walked into the room.

An old man, who looked to be around 60 or seventy years old, followed by two other men, who looked around 30, all three of them dressed in white robes.

The moment the three men walked into the room, they split up, as the two younger ones walked up to Jotaro, whilst the old one appeared in front of Diana.

As she raised her head and looked at the old man in front of her, Diana placed the document she had instinctually picked up back down onto the nearby table.

What Diana had just been reading was a report on Jotaro's state from yesterday, which was given to her by the old man in front.

"Mikhail, since you have personally come here before giving me the report on the state of your patient, I assume you have some good news," said Diana, causing the old man, Mikhail, to nod.

"Yes lady Diana, thanks to the funding you have provided us, we have managed to obtain a state-of-the-art positron emission tomography scanner, as well as a brand-new computer, which is equipped with the necessary software to utilize the scanner, as well as some of our previous equipment with increased efficiency," said Mikhail as he looked at Diana with a real smile on his face.

Ever since the destruction of the Soviet Union, which had caused the drastic decrease of the funding he had received, Mikhail could only watch in envy as their rival European labs obtained new and equipment and left them behind.

Not only that, but at the same time, the lab that Mikhail was leading was almost shut down several times, and only through Mikhail's own efforts was the lab able to keep running.

What hurt Mikhail most of all is that he had already seen some ways through which he could use that equipment to further his research, but sadly, with the current state of the Russian economy, this was impossible.

Because of these facts, now that he had finally managed to obtain a new source of funding, Mikhail felt extremely ecstatic.

As she heard the words of the old man, as well as his sincere gratitude, Diana couldn't help but faintly smile.

"Very well, do your best to give me a more thorough look at the state of your patient," said Diana as she looked at the old man.

"Do not worry, lady Diana, anything and everything that happens to the patient will be immediately reported to you," said Mikhail as the two young doctors moved the bed that Jotaro was lying down on.

Hearing this, Diana faintly smiled before waving her hand.

"Very well, you can be on your way," said Diana, allowing Mikhail to immediately walk out of the room and follow the two other doctors.

Even after Mikhail walked out of the room, Diana still sat down on her chair without moving.

Eventually though, after around thirty seconds, she suddenly turned her head sideways and looked into a certain corner of the room.

For some reason, unlike the rest of the room, this portion was quite dark, but even so, one could clearly see that there was nothing there.

"So, what do you think?" asked Diana as she finally got up from her chair.

"I'm quite surprised every single time I see him, after only a single month, this old man has become extremely loyal to you, he's almost on the same level as Andropov and Ivan," said a female voice coming from the corner of the room, making Diana slightly nod.

"That's good," mumbled Diana as she walked out of the room.

...

Forty-five minutes later, inside a laboratory.

At this moment, Mikhail could be seen standing in the middle of a large laboratory, staring down at Jotaro, who was lying down on the table in front of him.

Even though this laboratory hadn't been renovated in over twenty years, and some of the equipment inside of it was even older than that, at first glance, nobody would be able to notice that in the slightest.

Under the thorough care of Mikhail, who treated this lab better than his own children, who he hadn't talked to in two months, as he was busy, to the untrained eye, this lab looked nearly brand new.

At this moment, though, one of the two younger doctors suddenly approached Mikhail, causing him to turn his attention onto him.

"Sasha, has the radioactive tracer been removed from the body of the patient?" asked Mikhail, causing the young doctor, Sasha, to nod.

"Yes doctor, Misha is overseeing the construction of the 3D image right now, it should be done in about an hour," said Sasha.

"Good, we need to do some other tests while he is doing that," said Mikhail as he looked at the dead man in front of him with an extremely excited look on his face.

The moment he saw the excited look on the face of the old doctor, a similar look appeared on the face of Sasha, who was also extremely curious about the nature of the corpse in front of him.

...

One hour later,

As he looked at the results of all the tests, which had been summarized and printed into the report in his hands, Mikhail couldn't help but take in a deep breath.

Even though the changes which had happened within the patient after the healing of that little girl weren't visible at a first glance, under the eye of technology they became extremely obvious, making Mikhail surprised every single time he saw them.

But as he looked at the report in his hands one last time, Mikhail had suddenly become decided on what he had to do.

After deciding on what he would do, Mikhail then immediately exited the lab and walked towards the office of Lady Diana.

...

As she stared at the old man in front of her, who had seemingly become determined, Diana couldn't help but faintly smile.

"I see you have made up your mind," said Diana as she looked at the old man.

"Yes lady Diana, I just needed some time to decide if I wanted to do it," said Mikhail, causing Diana to nod.

"Very well, but you need to wait until after this patient of yours is healed, I can't let you take such a risk right now," said Diana, making Mikhail hesitate for a few moments and nod.
