Next morning.
"I'll miss you. Stay away from any kind of danger and come whenever you have a chance." My mother said in a choking voice, her face buried in my chest. I chucked at her words as the very work of adventurers revolves around getting yourself into danger.
But I still said without any hesitation. "I promise Mom, I promise." If a little promise can relieve her of her worries, for her, I could do that as many times as she wants.
After what felt like an hour, she broke the embrace although a little hesitantly.
After bidding farewell to my mother, I with my father headed downtown to the Adventurers Guild Hall.
The Guild Hall was a place of prestige and luxury. A marble structure towered over us like a sacred museum. Once inside, it was clear to see how much work had been put into the intricately designed interior. There were tables made from metal where I could see other adventurers glancing at us as we passed.
Although knew what it looked like from Arthur's memories, I still marvelled at its beautiful architecture.
"Welcome! How may I help you?" The receptionist's rehearsed smile gleamed a pearly white.
Returning her smile, My father slid a piece of parchment towards the woman. "I would like to sponsor him for a rank examination."
"To sponsor—oh, of course, of course," the receptionist answered, nodding her head eagerly as she handed back the piece of paper. Not many new adventurers had a sponsor.
"Please, come over this way." Getting up from her seat, the woman opened the door beside
us from the other side.
She led us past the row of seats behind the glass counter where the receptionists were stationed and into a small room.
The office was minimally decorated with two leather couches positioned to face each other. On the far end of the room was a dark wooden desk facing the door. A slender man was seated behind the pile of neatly-stacked papers, jotting down something with a quill pen. The man looked up at the sound of his office door opening, revealing a sharp
and angular face. The head of black hair I had been staring at was parted down the center and reached just past his thin neck. Looking up at my father, and a slight smile formed on his face.
"Mike, my friend, long time no see. What brings you here today." He said.
I was quite surprised by his words. 'Does my father knows kaspian?' I couldn't help but think.
But before my father had a chance to answer, the receptionist answered in his stead. "gentleman to be taken in for a
rank examination."
Followed by a nod from my father, kaspian eyed me up and down as he assessed me.
"You may wait outside, Mary." He waved the receptionist away as he motioned us to sit.
"Kaspian, this is my son, Alex, I came here to get him his adventurer's card. Son, this is kaspian, An old party member of mine. Greet him." My father said to me, his face beaming with a wide smile. He looked quite happy meeting his old friend.
"Hello Mr kaspian, I'm Alex Ford, son of Mike Ford, a pleasure to meet you," I greeted kaspian with a deep bow, despite my initial shock.
"No need to be so formal Alex, my name is Kaspian Bladeheart, and I am in charge of this branch. And as your father said we were in the same party back in the days, so you can just call me uncle." Kaspian said with a chuckle, then turning to my father, he spoke in a worried tone. "Mike, are you sure you want Alex to take the rank examination right now? I mean looking at his age, I would suggest you wait a couple more years."
My father replied, shaking his head. "I've already tested him. Don't judge him by his age. He is capable enough to fight an A-rank adventurer head-on."
Kaspian's eyes widened in shock at his words but he quickly composed himself.
After two minutes of silence, kaspian finally spoke. "Since you have already tested him, there is no need to go through a rank examination, but I'd still give him a B rank because of his age and low experience."
My father and I nodded in unison at his words, I don't really care about what rank I get as I will just sneak into whatever dungeon I want to go to anyway. Since when rules were able to stop me from doing what I want?
"Alex, you can go to the front desk to
receive your adventurer's card. Your father and I have something to talk about." Kaspian said, turning his head to my father.
Getting up from my seat, I nodded at my father and walked out of the room.
