"That went better than expected milady." Lacey combed Ellsie's scarlet hair pulling it into a large bun. As she helped her prepare for the Prince's party.
"I told you to trust me."
She wore a gorgeous emerald coloured gown that perfectly matched her eyes, the dress hugged her body perfectly and exaggerated her naturally perfect curves while also enhancing her gem-like eyes. Ellsie's natural beauty was unrivalled, but due to her usual sweet and naive nature, Lacey always worried she'd be taken advantage of. She didn't know what her young mistress had dreamt of the night before, but it seemed to have made Ellsie realise just how cruel humanity can be.

Standing around in a huge ballroom, Ellsie happily socialised with many of the people around her, politely avoiding those who she now knew were conspiring with the Duchess.
"Don't you think there is something different about Lady Ellsie?" An older woman with long ebony hair, looked at the blonde woman beside her.
"Yes, it's almost like she seems more self-aware, lately." The blonde countess replied while she fixed the skirt of her navy blue gown.
"Perhaps she finally realised about that stepmother of her's," The ebony haired woman responded apathetically.
"Lady Amelia!" the blonde looked shocked "You can't say those kind of things so publicly, you know how many spies she has got in the empire." She whispered.
Meanwhile ignoring the countesses Ellsie was looking around, when finally her gaze fell upon a tall, lean and muscular brunette man with ocean blue eyes. The man was indeed handsome beyond compare, however he'd always held a very distant and arrogant attitude towards Ellsie. Although tonight the man's expression was cold and indifferent, he was surrounded by the beautiful daughters of the barons, counts and even a few of the shameless marquesses daughters were flaunting themselves at him. While the daughters, who knew they stood a chance at becoming his wife, stayed back and upheld their dignity, those of lower status tried their luck at seducing him with their looks.

While the prince ignored the girls surrounding him, his eyes finally met those of a young red-haired heiress. Thump. Thump. Thump. His heart rate increased slightly. As she walked towards the guest of honour, his heart rate increased even more. The air around the heiress seemed to have changed, she was no longer the shy and quiet girl he'd always known, she walked with confidence and the kind of arrogance only the Duke's daughter would have.
When Ellsie reached Lucian, she pushed her shoulders back further and faced the other girls, with nothing more than a simple glare the girls scattered off into different directions.
"You just scared off my fan club, don't tell me your jealous Lady Rosewood." Lucian cold expression slightly softened into the fake arrogance he'd always used towards her.
"Hmm, if I was jealous your highness would know it by now." Her fake sincerity was almost intoxicating. "Will you take a walk with me your highness, I have a matter I must discuss with you?"
"I suppose," as much as he hated being around Ellsie, because she'd always stirred up confusing feelings for him, he couldn't turn her down.
The pair walked out onto the large balcony away from the crowds of people. Ellsie placed her hands onto the railing and looked up at the stars.
"They're beautiful aren't they? The stars I mean." Not as beautiful as you, that was what he wanted to say, what he wanted to tell her.
"I didn't come out here to see the stars, what do you want Ellsie?"
"Straight to business I see, you always were very stubborn." Ellsie teased, then her playful expression turned serious and dark, "I need your help... I need your help to save my life."
