CHAPTER 26: IN THE DARK
Things have improved a bit now, it's been a while since the mission of the attacking robot monkeys and the scientist who created that robot capable of copying abilities to a similar level as the league members, the league called it the Amazon copy, although I didn't believe that things could change so much my training has helped me improve in the fights against canary.
Megan sometimes helps me and Krypto when he's not sleeping beside the training camp lunges at me to improve my defense.
I have found that even when taking constant damage my clothes don't suffer any deterioration.
I talked about it with the guys, they told me that was very common with Superman, even Robin said:
" I once asked Batman while he was fixing his suit, and I couldn't imagine Superman in the fortress of solitude sewing his suit after a battle just like he does."
And Batman just replied:
" His clothes normally don't suffer damage just like he does, only with high-level opponents."
I was researching but didn't find any concrete data, maybe I should ask Superman directly, although he will most likely avoid me.
"Superboy to the main headquarters"- reports the base computer.
Arriving at the base I see that they are all gathered it seems it's time for another mission.
"Well since you are all gathered I will inform you about your next mission, some bases with advanced technology have been stolen, as well as the disappearance of an important doctor who has enough knowledge and intellect to create very dangerous weapons "- informs Batman while on the main computer screen you can see a woman in a robe and under her picture the name of Dr. Serling roquette.
"Oh, she's a nanorobotics genius and claytronics expert from the real university in Star City, and she disappeared two weeks ago, according to the report," says Robin.
"Kidnapped by the League of Shadows" completes Batman.
"Rescuing her from the League of Shadows sounds great," says Wally excitedly.
"No, her mission is only reconnaissance, observe and report, the league will intervene if necessary", says Batman.
A cover mission... This is going to be fun, the guys change their suits to darker ones to camouflage themselves in the night.
After a few minutes, we are all in the bio-ship arriving at the location indicated by Batman.
"Robin to Batman, we are entering the rendezvous point," says Robin.
"Okay, avoid detection," says Batman seconds before hanging up the call.
It's amazing that the speed of the bio-ship, plus its camouflage, allows us to enter undetected areas to a certain extent.
"Well here I come, Miss Martina opens the compound" - says Kaldur.
Kaldur is the only one able to reach the heat sensors before without being detected underwater.
"Well, heat and motion sensors deactivated," reports Kaldur already on the surface.
"Aqualad, we're ready, all clear, how's it going?" asks Robin.
"I'm heading to the factory, I'll track your GPS later and meet up with you as soon as possible"- says Kaldur.
"Copy that, all right guys you have to be careful, according to the data there are mines on the way, good thing I managed to hack information before entering about your weapons," says Robin with a mischievous smile on his face.
I hear footsteps nearby, something is approaching us, wait, are we being surrounded? We are already spotted, and footsteps are heard from two different directions.
"Guys watch out everyone downstairs"
"What happened superboy?" asks Megan.
"They are coming towards us, watch out"
"Cool it's your super hearing thing I guess, you've gotten better at that" - says Wally.
"Kid flash activates thermal view mode"- says Robin in a low voice to Wally.
"As you say, right away... stop, where is Robin?" asks Wally.
When Robin appears, he always does the same thing, he disappears from one moment to the next, advancing without us, it must be because of his experience with Batman in this kind of mission, after all, Batman, as his name indicates, is the lord of the night.
"I hate it when he does that," says Wally.
I still can't see anything my eyesight has become a little blurry since we entered such a dark place, and even my eyes burn a little.
"Are you ok superboy, you are sweating a lot"- Megan says to me while she comes closer to give me support.
When I looked at her I could see how she was constantly moving closer and farther away, I could even see through her, her organs, and even her bones, what the fuck, is this the vision that Superman has, why is this activating now, x-ray vision and also a vision that allows to make a kind of zoom to places or things that are at a long distance, shit this makes me dizzy a lot.
The first time I was testing my powers, I spent hours trying to see if I could develop this vision ability, so I could control it before it was a problem for some mission, like it is now.
"Shit superboy is not well, I'll go get Robin as soon as possible, wait for guys".
Just as Wally runs out gunshots start to be heard.
"There's a confrontation up ahead, it's two patrols, or at least that's what I can see with the thermal mode, and to hear those gunshots you don't need to have super hearing."
That's thermal vision, I can also see the heat of their bodies, the modes of my sight are constantly blending, and I'm getting more and more dizzy.
"Robin reports your location..." says Wally seconds before a thump and groans of pain are heard from Robin and Wally's microphones.
"What the fuck are you doing, don't you see where you're running!" says Robin to Wally.
When I concentrate a little I can see the guys a few meters away from us, they are both on the ground, they must have crashed, but that's not the problem, the problem is that both are now in the middle of the gang fight, apparently some are guards of the base of this place and the others look like mercenaries.
"Miss Martian, hurry up and go help them."
"On my way" indicates Megan.
The shots change targets to Robin and Wally in a matter of seconds, although I'm still dizzy because of the change of visions, my sight stabilizes.
Megan manages to get there first with the guys who are fighting against both sides.
As there are quite a few of them I manage to reach and hit some of them, my fists are now more powerful, and with a single blow I manage to send them flying into the trees.
One of them unloaded a loader of bullets directly into me, and although I felt as if they were pricking me they didn't manage to penetrate any bullet, even unconsciously I didn't realize it but bullets now I see that they go slower, I could even dodge them if I was a little faster When I look closely some bullets do manage to touch my skin, those are the ones that make me feel pricks, but there are other bullets that millimeters from my body begin to crush like a crushed soda can, it's as if a force field surrounded me, but not a very complete one.
"Hey superboy react!" shouts Robin bringing me back to reality.
As I react a punch hits straight in my face and I fall to the ground, when I least expect it a man with a mask applies a key and holds me for an instant, but Megan manages to hit him with one of the armed men and takes him off me, allowing me to move again.
"Thank you."
"You're welcome, let's finish them off quickly before they call for reinforcements," says Megan.
