Substitute Luna

"Genova is missing!" Sally yells so hard that she doesn't need a gong and a trumpet to make this announcement. These three words and audible gasps of shock from the workers outside put us all in panic. "How did you know?" Damon lets go of her, and she goes crashing on the floor due to her ill-judged movement. "She dumped the wedding dress inside a bathtub full of water, and I've spent over an hour searching everywhere for her," My stomach squeezes and tightens into knots, as I try to properly align the words I just heard. "Can it be that she eloped with an old lover?"  "Did she possibly develop a tad of cold feet before the wedding?" "Aside from smoking which of course is a bad habit, Genova is a nice girl. Alpha Cahill might be abusive because of his alleged monstrous nature," "Fucking worse timing of the century, isn't it?" Several uncertain questions are flying in the air, until my mother, Meredith Rose, slams her fist against the table in front of everyone, startling us all and gaining silence almost immediately  "Enough!" She bellows, her veins bulging out along her neck in exasperation. "We've got to figure out a way out of this, Or Alpha Cahill will shred us into pieces. The loans we are owing, your father's uncleared debts after his death. My fucking god, I can't believe Genova will do this to us," mom facepalms in distress, tapping her feet against the floor in frustration. "Let's go find her, it might be she's homesick already and wants some time alone," Archibald suggests, while he's being stopped by Sally with a raise of the hand. "Few of the workers formed a search party and one came with the news of someone seeing a tomboy who bears a striking resemblance to Genova, running away with a man." Sally points this out, and all three of my brothers exchange knowing looks, with their lips thinning. "Jack Snyder," they chorus and I gasp. I cannot believe she's ran away with that psycho ex of hers. Who in their right state of mind will ditch her own wedding with Alpha Cahill and run away with a man who's lost all sanity? My mom who has been silent all these while suddenly shivers-jolts, her eyes sparkling with certainty, then she points at me, the youngest Brewer sibling.  "You, Mathilda...you will have to take the place of your sister to marry Alpha Cahill." *** Mathilda's life changes when her elder sister runs away on her wedding day and she's being persuaded by her mother and brothers to protect them from an impending wicked fate until she reluctantly agrees to marry Alpha Cahill. She's left with no alternative but to adhere to not bring shame to the Alpha and put the lives of her family members at stake. Will she be able to cope with Alpha Cahill who doesn't regard her in any aspect, but is enraged and wouldn't let her go while he's in search of her elder sister? She's however, forced to reject her own mate after becoming the Luna of the Blackwood pack, and what she doesn't expect is to develop feelings for Alpha Cahill in the process of protecting her family. But she has no idea a lot is in store for her as Luna of the Blackwood pack.  The dreadful Luna Ritual if Cahill touches her and she gets pregnant, Cahill's half-brother who seems to be infatuated with her.  And having to face the jealous female population of the Blackwood and other neighboring packs. Puzzling circumstances are shoved into the picture when Cahill's actual, self-entitled Luna-wannabe mate comes out from nowhere and makes her presence known, perplexing him and hurting Mathilda. And just as Mathilda is contemplating if she and Cahill will be able to overcome everything and everyone, Genova Brewer returns. This leaves Mathilda wondering if Cahill will be with her or choose her sister, his first love over her. She's only a substitute for Luna, or isn't she?

off my head

Cahill

I let go of the stupid damned boy who dared attack me, not because I don't want to kill him, but because of the way, Mathilda begged me.

She must truly love him and doesn't want him to get killed by me.

Well, it seems the Brewer females allow themselves to fall in love with shitty assholes and as well weaklings.

Seeing how Mathilda had gone down on her knees to plead, softened my heart a bit. Not completely though, because I can still kill him if I want to.

He dared attack me, just because he's stupid enough to not think I am way more powerful than his Alpha, and can kill him within seconds.

Well, he's lucky to have someone like Mathilda who loves him this way. Too bad he cannot have her anymore. She'll be with me and not him, and that's something he has to deal with for the rest of his life.

I've never seen so much love in the eyes of a woman before, never in my life.

This stirs jealousy inside of me because it makes me remember Genova. I'll bet she looks at the bastard she ran away with, this way.

It hurts to even think about this and torments the shit out of me.

To think I thought she was completely in love with me when it was me being fooled all along.

She must be some good actress because she gave me smiles that seemed genuine, and made my heart stutter like Simone's first words when I chose him as my Beta on the night of my coronation.

And even though being married to her younger sister feels right to not bring shame to me, it still feels like I am doing something terrible, having the youngest Brewer sibling reject her mate because of me.

I shift my gaze towards where the pile of shit in human form is laying on the floor, with his hands wrapped around his throat. Puffy bloodied face which makes me sick.

"You will reject him when we return from our honeymoon," I direct this statement to Mathilda, with my eyes still on the bastard.

"Thank you," she says, then rises back to her feet and then comes to stand at my side.

A feeling of satisfaction runs through me when she does this. It means she's taking sides with me.

Although I have enough money that I can afford anything I want even in my next life, I still do feel lonely most times. The way Matilda loves her mate is the way I want to be loved by someone.

Her eyes are filled with so much pain and love as she looks over her mate on the floor, who seems helpless. I would've sworn it's taking everything inside of her to not run towards him and ask him if he's okay.

But she's scared of what I might do next.

This girl, she knows me too well already.

And it makes a feeling of satisfaction run through me.

"Sorry for the interruption, we'll leave now." I say to the lecturer and students, "and send the name and address of the kid who ran away to the Nolan's mansion, my Beta would make a replacement of the phone he damaged,"

With this, I turn my back on everyone and start heading out.

Mathilda follows suit, after throwing one last pitiful glance at her mate through her shoulder.

Then Simone and two of my men.

Students are staring at me in shock because the last thing they expect is to see the most powerful Alpha in their campus.

I notice the females glaring jealously at Mathilda as they whisper amongst themselves how she's unfit for me. They do know I got married to her last night, and wish it's them who is in her position.

"She's not even that pretty," someone mutters.

"Bad dressing sense. I wonder what he sees in her," this is from another.

"Alpha Cahill could've just sent the Brewer family to trenches and not marry someone as incompetent as Mathilda."

Mathilda has her head lowered to the floor as she walks beside me, she feels embarrassed from hearing all of this.

They have no right to talk about her like this. She's higher than they'll ever be. It's obvious they're jealous as hell and cannot contain it in their bodies anymore.

And even if I have no feelings for her, I cannot let this continue, nor will I stoop low to their level to talk to them.

"Come," I say, grabbing onto Mathilda's soft pale hand, and before she can speak any word, I pull her up and carry her in my arms.

Several gasps of shock go on flying in the atmosphere, and I can see jaws dropping in astonishment.

Mathilda has her eyes widened in their sockets as she looks at me.

"What are you doing?" She stammers, making sure to keep her voice low, to not spark anger within me.

"Relax," I press her head to my chest, and there are other collective gasps.

From my side-eye, I can see Simone smirking. He knows I am doing this to make them feel even more jealous and it's working.

"Why did you leave without letting me know?" I ask Mathilda, loud enough for everyone to hear.

"I'm sorry, I promise it won't happen next time," she replies, with her head lowered to her chest, avoiding my eyes. It seems as though she wants to melt from being in my arms like this because clearly, it's the last thing she expected.

Not like I am comfortable doing it anyway, I have no feelings towards her in any way. It's still her sister who I am in love with. Would ever love.

"You're now my Luna, you shouldn't walk out on your own. All my men are your servants," I say.

Slowly, Mathilda raises her head to look at me with curiosity. She gulps, with her green bulgy eyes so innocent and somewhat beautiful.

Simone clears his throat, indicating that we're outside, and I put Mathilda down gently.
