Without a supportive family when he was a teenager, Charlie's Tourette syndrome and anxiety had become too overwhelming and he ended up dropping out of school. Regardless of the hour, he was wired. Being with Charlie was like awakening to a new life—one filled with possibilities. At home, when he slipped between his sheets, he lay staring at the ceiling, smiling, as sleep eluded him. It was close to sunrise before he finally drifted off.

Nathan barreled down the hall, leaping into Charlie’s arms as soon as he entered the front door.

“Uncle Charlie! Owen!”

Charlie laughed as he wrapped his arms around Nathan and kept the kid from falling as he squirmed. “Whoa! You’re a wiggle worm today!”

“No! I’m a wiggle monster! Rawr!”

“Hey, Mister, what did I say? No monsters in the house!”

Charlie smiled at his sister as she took the box of cupcakes from Owen’s hands. “Sorry, looks like monsters broke that rule.”

“Yeah, Mom!” Nathan roared again as Charlie set him down. He spied the cupcakes and reached for the box.

“No way! After dinner,” Melissa said as she held the box out of his reach.
