What Is Morality?

Morality is the thought process that we use to determine good from bad, but what shapes our ideals of what is good and wrong?

Our morality is shaped greatly by our surroundings as we age and intake information. Morality is influenced by a great variety of factors which include religious affiliation, emotions, and trauma to name a few.

Many religions help shape one's morality on the basis of their teachings, which most but not all include the widespread message of peace and love such as the teachings of Christianity, Islam, etc. Within these teachings, there are quite a few similarities, and not just between these two but others such as Hinduism, and Buddhism as well. The similarities that these religions share and preach include the message of nonviolence and showing love to others and oneself. Notable figures of these religions would include Jesus Christ, The Buddha (Siddhartha Gautama), Muhammad of Mecca, etc.

People growing up under the education of these religions may adapt parts of their religious moral codes into their own, such as not stealing, not taking another life, etc. However just because one may follow one of these religions doesn't mean that they are gonna always be hand-and-hand with morality or act upon their religious beliefs. While Religion can be one of the facts that shape one's morality it isn't the only single determining factor in one's morality.

Another notable factor that affects how one's morality develops over the years includes one's trauma and personal experiences growing up. Some people who have grown up in toxic or broken homes where they were subject to abuse while growing up could cause them to grow up with greater difficulty where it making it harder for them to distinguish what is right and what is wrong as they were subjected to cruel treatment growing up. And a few effects of these traumatic experiences could cause them to behave more coldly towards themselves and treat others better than themselves. This causes one's morals to oneself to become weakened which leads to self-immorality.

Another possible outcome could be that they respond aggressively to any sort of injustice which they observe and respond with force as they had observed previously on how they used methods of force while growing up when their parents, caregivers, etc.. attempted to deal with a problem.

Morality is influenced by great amount of factors not just these as the factors range far and wide but I hope this helped give some insight on this particular topic.
