As night fell...
Ethan turned on the TV to watch the news.
"Hell's Kitchen in the grip of a serial killer! Multiple victims found with broken necks—Is this a sign of human depravity or moral decay?"
"Hell's Kitchen turned into a real hell! Over sixty people brutally attacked! The killer remains at large, highlighting the police's incompetence!"
"The truth revealed! This is the attack..."
Ethan saw the final news headline, his hand shaking as he nearly dropped the remote. He quickly turned off the TV.
He was indeed worried that the media might make the image of Containment Object-096 a hot topic.
If that were to happen, the number of deaths would not be limited to just a few dozen.
After all, the essence of Containment Object-096 is that it will not stop until everyone who has seen it is dead.
Relieved after escaping this disaster, Ethan sighed and said to Natasha, who was peeling an apple beside him, "Let's not watch the news for now. I'm worried someone might post a picture of Containment Object-096."
Natasha looked at him with a bright, understanding smile.
"A containment object that strange? Maybe the doctors are mistaken. How could something that causes death just by seeing a photo be real? It's not a god, after all. Who knows who has seen its picture."
Natasha laughed, finding Ethan's paranoia amusing.
Ethan thought to himself, "Ignorance is indeed bliss."
Just then, Natasha's satellite phone rang.
"Answer it!"
Natasha handed the apple to Ethan and checked the caller ID.
"You answer."
Ethan mumbled while chewing on the apple, "Go ahead."
"Mr. President! We have new findings on Containment Object-096. The Foundation has confirmed it attacks anyone who sees it, regardless of the medium. We've conducted tests on death row inmates."
Natasha switched the phone to speaker mode, clearly hearing the doctor's voice.
Is there really such a strange containment object?
Reflecting on her previous doubts, Natasha felt a twinge of embarrassment.
She had mocked Ethan for being overly cautious, but it seemed she was the ignorant one. Containment Object-096 was indeed bizarre!
"Is this really possible? Is Containment Object-096 that strange?"
Natasha looked at Ethan in surprise.
"I told you to always be vigilant. Containment objects are always strange. You should serve me well; I might take you to the headquarters to see even stranger objects."
Ethan tried to downplay the situation with his usual exaggeration.
Unfortunately, after spending time with him, Natasha knew better than to believe his exaggerated promises.
She rolled her eyes and said, "Leave the speeches to Coulson."
"Upload this information to the containment facility's internal network and alert everyone to be cautious. Also, let Coulson handle this. I'm worried someone might foolishly post a photo of Containment Object-096 online."
Ethan thought of Coulson, the ever-diligent errand-runner.
In this situation, only official forces could handle it properly.
S.H.I.E.L.D. seemed like the perfect choice.
Natasha sighed.
Poor Coulson.
The ever-diligent Coulson was once again thrust into action.
Natasha wasn't sure whether to congratulate him or pity him.
Meanwhile, Coulson, upon learning about the deadly nature of Containment Object-096, was thoroughly distressed.
This was the 21st century!
If merely seeing a photo could cause death, then that photo was undoubtedly the cheapest, most bizarre, and most terrifying weapon in the world.
Given the widespread nature of the 21st-century internet, it was extremely easy for a photo to be seen by millions.
"I need to report this to the Director!"
Coulson rubbed his balding head in frustration.
He had noticed his hair falling out more and more these days; ever since the Foundation emerged, he hadn't had a single day of peace.
While Coulson worried about public safety, Natasha, with her sharp intuition, was pondering deeper implications.
As a high-ranking agent who had come out of the shadows, Natasha was well aware of the ethical standards (or lack thereof) of senior officials.
She shifted her gaze and carefully hinted, "I think this matter shouldn't be widely known. Not everyone in the government is trustworthy, and the more people know, the worse the situation might become."
"Why?"
Ethan was intrigued by Natasha's worried expression.
"Have you considered that someone might use a photo of Containment Object-096 as a weapon? The object itself is a weapon, and its photo is like a remote control. I believe I'm not the only one who thought of this!"
Natasha emphasized, her eyes fixed on Ethan, trying to gauge his reaction.
Hearing Natasha's warning, Ethan's expression changed.
As a transmigrator, Ethan didn't consider himself smarter than high-level politicians, let alone the cunning villains.
He was just a transmigrator, with the only advantage of knowing things others didn't. After all, he entered a modern world, not a historical one, and had no insight into the future.
He never overestimated the moral standards of villains; using Containment Object-096 to eliminate opponents was a strategy he had never considered before.
Just because he hadn't thought of it didn't mean others hadn't.
On the contrary, Ethan felt that Containment Object-096 would indeed be exploited by those with malicious intent!
