A Few Minutes Later...
Tony Stark, nearly fully suited in his Iron Man armor, suddenly heard frantic knocking at the door.
Bang! Bang! Bang!
Sharon Carter, who was furiously typing away at her console, was startled by the noise outside, nearly mistyping the program.
"Yinsen! How much longer?" Tony shouted, his voice laced with tension.
"Almost there! Just a few more minutes!" Yinsen replied, finishing the last line of code. He then grabbed a hammer and took position behind the door, ready to strike if anyone attempted to break in.
"Is anyone inside? If you are, say something!" a voice called out from outside.
"Captain, there's no response."
"This door is locked from the inside. There's definitely someone in there. Report this to the commander—we're preparing to breach!"
Hearing the voices, Yinsen's despair turned to hope. The English they were speaking was unmistakable; these were not the so-called freedom fighters.
"Tony, I think we're saved!" Yinsen exclaimed excitedly to Tony, who was now locked into the Iron Man suit.
Tony, who had been equally tense, let out a sigh of relief. The heat inside the armor was unbearable, and his back was drenched in sweat—though he wasn't sure if it was from the high temperature or sheer anxiety.
"I'm Tony Stark! There's no danger inside. I'll open the door now," Tony called out from within the armor.
The agents outside exchanged a glance before one of them excitedly radioed in, "Sir, we've found Tony Stark! He's alive! We're going to—"
The agent's report was abruptly cut off, the sound replaced by silence.
Sharon Carter, listening through the comms, felt her breath quicken.
"Hello? What's going on over there?"
"Hello? Hello! Damn it!" Sharon cursed, slamming the communicator onto the ground in frustration.
"Edward and his team went that way. We need to move in to support them. Something's gone wrong," she commanded angrily.
Inside the cave, Tony's heart sank at the sudden silence outside. Had something gone wrong again? Were his rescuers ambushed?
Fearing the worst, Tony quickly stopped Yinsen from unlocking the door.
"Yinsen, don't open the door yet! There might be a trap outside!" Tony shouted anxiously.
Moments later, hurried footsteps echoed from outside. Sharon Carter rushed over, her face darkening as she spotted two familiar sets of combat uniforms lying on the ground.
"Damn it! What is Fury up to? What the hell is he hiding?" Sharon cursed, glaring at the empty clothes with growing anger.
From the start, today's mission had felt off—too much secrecy, too much uncertainty. She was certain that something was being kept from her. That damned Director Fury was always holding something back, and it wasn't the first time he'd pulled something like this.
Inside the now fully assembled Iron Man suit, Tony heard the familiar voice and couldn't help but yell out, "Sharon Carter? Is that you, little cousin?"
The voice, dripping with its usual blend of arrogance and charm, made Sharon grit her teeth in annoyance. "Damn it, Stark! Stop calling me 'little' cousin!" she snapped back, though she couldn't help feeling a bit of relief at hearing his voice.
If they managed to rescue Tony Stark, the loss of a couple of agents might be worth it. This was the first bit of good news she'd had all night—and so far, the only good news.
"Tony, are you in there? Don't move! I'm coming to get you out!" Sharon called out, desperate to prevent the playboy from causing more trouble.
But just as she was about to order the door breached, she paused, frowning as a strange sound reached her ears.
A slithering noise... like the sound of something crawling—no, like the sound of many things crawling.
As a top-level agent, Sharon's instincts screamed that something was wrong. "Stay alert! These purple plants aren't normal!" she warned, her gaze locking onto the walls now covered in thick, purple vines.
In that instant, SCP-307, now fully revealed, ceased hiding its predatory nature. Countless vines surged toward Sharon and her team, filling the cave with a mass of writhing tendrils.
The agents, trapped within the confined space of the cave, found themselves overwhelmed. The sea of purple vines filled every inch, turning them into helpless prey caught in the maw of a terrifying abyss.
Despite their best efforts, bullets only slowed the vines temporarily; they seemed endless, relentlessly advancing.
In just a few minutes, several members of Sharon's team had already succumbed, falling unconscious as the vines overtook them.
With her team dropping one by one, Sharon was soon the last agent standing, desperately fending off the encroaching vines with a knife. If it weren't for some of the vines pausing to feed, she would have been overwhelmed already.
At that critical moment, the door behind her was kicked open, and Tony Stark, clad in the bulky Iron Man armor, stepped out, his mechanical footsteps echoing through the cave.
"My dear little cousin, your big cousin is here to—"
Tony's words were cut short as he took in the horrifying sight of the cave, now completely overrun with the monstrous purple vines.
"What the hell is this?!" Tony exclaimed in terror, his eyes widening as he stared at the mass of writhing tendrils.
