StarDuster - Glory of the Umbral Avenger

My Father always told me to stand tall, this is my opportunity to do just that. [ This novel has been discontinued, a redux version of this series is currently in production. ] A glorious reign over the realm only to be hunted, a glorious return only to be haunted. Avery Hall had a fair share of experience when it came to the many layers of humanity. With the death of our real world in the future, everyone gets digitized and becomes... well, Immortal. To a degree. But how to do you spend immortality? Video Games... of course, with everything being digital... and with Hyper Advanced A.I... it's possible to create games that simulate what reality used to be like. Our story takes place in Starduster MMO, a fantasy based MMO game where the game's story is run mainly by player choice, with any choice being an important factor into anything. Our main point of view is Avery Hall, who specializes in the Sniper Class, a long range damage class that uses a Rifle. He is quite efficient at making use of all he has available, and is kind of a jerk. Avery also has been preventing the Progress of the game by holding on to a Key Artifact, other players find out about this and after a while decide they don't want him around anymore. While normally death lowers levels... his reputation is too low within the game and he gets banned, luckily he has a second account, as most V.I.P. users in the world do... Avery, swears to return the status quo, but maybe he'll be good this time... hopefully, habits take a long time to stop. So we join Avery's journey to get back to the top, just make sure he doesn't forget to properly transfer accounts.

Liberate me from Heaven

Despite the clear flaws in this game, everyone still seems to love it.

I mean, why can you PK people back to level 1? It's just unreasonable. Reaching max level is just a pipe dream, the highest recorded level was 89 before the player got wiped off the map. It's a competition to get to the top... and everyone does whatever it's takes to get there.

That's why PKs are popular. It gives you XP, Money for whatever, and if your lucky you can get bribes from low levels. It's so easy to do as well.

I say that, but this poor bastard just got wiped back at least 7 levels. The strength of my build is the high damage and sustain. Infact, my team could substitute an entire party in the future... who needs party members to defend you when you can just have an elemental do it?

Dice was really just a lucky side perk. I didn't expect it at all.

I'm glad this build turned out as I hoped. I labed this out back when I was a Sniper Mage. I suppose that it takes alot more grinding for it to work.

I should read my companions skills and stats for now... I don't want to bring them to something they can't handle.

System, show me everything about Dice.

Confirmed

Dice

Armored Corrosion Centipede

Level 2 / 30

Stats

Str 20 • Dex 40 • Con 50 • Int 20 • Wis 20 • Cha 20

Skills

Poison Magic • Steel Carapace ( Passive ) • Burst

Has power complexes, also has father complexes

{} End {}

Certainly, I see that he has improved quite the bit. Nothing much to scoff at for the matter. Comparing him to players he would be about level 40. It doesn't look like tamed creatures get skills from stats.

Asi

Level 13 Spirit

Holy / Fire / Dark

Stats

Str 5 • Dex 5 • Con 5 • Int 30 • Wis 30 • Cha • 5

Has impossibly high completion is remarkably familiar in a weird way.

{} End {}

Well, that concludes that ceremony. I don't know what else to do to break up time on our travels... PKs are rare against to players on mounts considering the speed.

I could take a break make the Hover board larger. Maybe a floating car? I could do quite the amount of things.

If... I didn't sell everything.

What a dunce... now I'm inconvenienced.

Well... I am high level and I could do some PvP stuff. Maybe get something cool out of that...

Maybe I could fiend good boy points and look for some players getting PK'd and save them.

Actually, not a bad idea.

-

I swerved off the road, heading into the out skirts of the Valley looking for a opportunity. Thankfully I can off-road in this thing. I mean I guess I'm always doing that but whatever.

I stop for a brief moment to check out the surroundings.

Im currently perched at a hill, I can see quite far out from here... I can see quite the amount of Players marked with a Red Icon.

I should talk about icons huh.

Well basically:

Red : Constant PKs

Orange : PKs often

Yellow : PKs sparingly

Green : Hasn't PK'd

Blue : Prevented a PK

Purple : Enlisted in Anti PK quests / Police

Currently I'm a green, that's because the person I did happen to kill attacked first. Even if he didn't hit me.

Anyways, I spot a few green players going straight through the middle of the Valley, just asking to be killed.

And I wasn't the only one thought that.

High amounts of Orange players quickly descended on them.

Reds usually ignored anything that wasn't a Merchant player, not enough loot for them.

Me - " Dice... Asi... see if you can sneak up on the players that are surrounding the ones crossing the field right now. When I shoot, attack them. Okay? "

In Unison - " Ok, master. "

They both refer to me as master, something I don't appreciate but I don't want to stop them. Either ways they are reliable already.

I'll need to keep more attention to Asi, mainly due to its level.

I won't shoot untill combat starts for a bit, that way I can get a super cool save.

I'll be a hero!

This will be perfect, I can get a reputation as a Savior. Of course that's only to benefit me to becoming strong. My reasoning is that I can get PK loot but without the punishments, and not being allowed to raid dungeons with others.

Doing this would help me in the long run, not just a throw away idea I had. Suprisingly.

I mean I am very quick to just do whatever.

System, read me the average level of the Orange players.

Confirmed

Level 40 on average

Alright, what about those green players?

Confirmed

Level 35 on average

Unlucky for the bandits, these guys still might be able to put up a fight without me. Small differences in Numbers don't mean much in this game.

At least when it comes to amount of players... otherwise don't listen to me.

Actually don't listen to that, please keep listening to me... I don't want to be alone.

Ah shit I spaced out again, the fight has already started. It looks like the green players have a pretty decent swordsman player. I don't understand the effect of using two swords... I mean it's really impractical right?

There seems to be a priest there too, and that ones a mage.

Pretty balanced.

On the opposite end, the Orange players have 2 mages, with 13 different fighter types.

The reason I didn't check before was because... uh...

I couldn't... count the amount that... might of come! Yes, that's exactly what I'm thinking!

What's wrong with me today, I'm just jittery and side minded. Maybe I have been doing to much too fast. I should probably chill later, do some player interactions and stop being a solo loser.

Is that Ruby? Oh, is she leading that PK squad? A coincidence to be sure, but a welcome one. I'll do a cool heroic entrance, save the day, and ask Ruby to stop PKing.

A flawed plan, but whatever.

I prepped my AoE shots, only 10 for now I guess.

...

* Bang *

* BAM *

Easy, wiped out all of Ruby's swordsmen... just her and the other mage. But it looks like Dice and Asi got him covered.

Too be fair, I don't play fair. Surely if a good Assasin got up and personal with me... actually I don't know any Assasin players past level 50... actually, that's worrying... there might be ridiculously high level assassins hiding amongst the player base...

Never mind, System! Use dash!

Confirmed

I bolted down the hill with my side arm drawn, heading straight down to the Green players and Ruby... it looks like their both understandably shocked from what just happened.

I arrived in the coolest matter I could pull off, slowly coming out through the smoke.

Me - " Thought you could use a little help there, so is stepped in. Hey Ruby, long time no see huh? "

Swordsman - " Thanks for the save, but I could of handled it... "

Ruby - " You are that Cobalt player, what are you doing here! Why are you preventing my hard earned Player Kill! "

Me - " Well, I thought you'd like to see and old friend. I thought you recognize your old pal crimson! "

Ruby - " How dare you mention his name... He was a icon to me... and he would never give up on easy loot! "

Me - " Aww, is that really how you see me? I appreciate it... but I have changed I guess. I don't do PKs anymore. So I guess I'd be a hero for a bit... so how about it? You can die here, or swear to never PK again. "

Ruby - " I don't believe you are him, how so? Crimson never mention having an alternate account! "

Me - " But you did mention to me about the Sniper Summoner build I have now, wanna see? Hey! Dice, Asi, Come here real quick!

My two little creatures ran up to me from behind the green players, Dice was covered in the mage's blood. Evidently cause it was red... Bugs usually have green or blue I believe.

Me - " I am trying out the build for now, it's working out pretty okay don't you think? So what's your verdict? "

Player Ruby Has logged off

Fuck, she combat logged.

And for certain, she will tell everyone. Damn why couldn't I keep my damn mouth shut.

Swordsman - " Wait... you are... crimson? The famed PK god? "

Me - " In the flesh, I guess. I shouldn't of said anything. "

Swordsman - " You are also a double account user... what are doing here? "

Me - " Just trying to get a good reputation. "

Wait, I could use this to further boost my reputation... I could make myself a tragic Villain... and this is my charector arc where I become good!

Me - " In reality, I never wanted to PK anyone, despite what you might hear... I originally just did requests from players, eventually they started hiring me for PKs, and then I couldn't stop. I was bound to the service of a player with a cursed item. I couldn't even log out. "

Swordsman - " That's, tragic. "

Mage - " I feel bad for you, thank you for saving us... Mr. Crimson sir... "

Priest - " Yes... thank you very much! "

I didn't even really save them, as the swordsman said... he could handle them. I mean Ruby was different but she never really fought.

Me - " No problem, how about I escort you out of this place... you do know this place is notorious for PKs? "

Swordsman - " I'll take you up for it... but not because I can't handle myself. I'm Arch. The mage is Luriel and the priest is Melody... they are my friends who convinced me to let them play this game with me. "

Me - " Nice to meet you, you can refer to me as just Cobalt... I have given up on my older name. "

Luriel - " What was that magic you used? I quite interested! "

Melody - " And who is this cutie! What an adorable little spirit you have! "

It's... not magic.

And can you see Dice? What's this priority here? I think Dice looks way cooler.

Unfortunately I don't want to give away my secret moves ... what do I do?

I guess I'll avoid the question.

I haven't noticed, but did Asi have legs before? Actually... if I remember correctly the higher level spirit and Summoner the more complete the spirit becomes.

Me - " That little spirit is Asi. She's a summoned creature. If you want to you can hold it. Well Arch, lead the way if you want. "

He's holding Dice... I guess someone finally understands how cute it is.

Arch - " Oh! Yeah... we should get going. it's only noon and we wasted so much time. "

And so, my popularity will slowly be cultivated
