StarDuster - Glory of the Umbral Avenger

My Father always told me to stand tall, this is my opportunity to do just that. [ This novel has been discontinued, a redux version of this series is currently in production. ] A glorious reign over the realm only to be hunted, a glorious return only to be haunted. Avery Hall had a fair share of experience when it came to the many layers of humanity. With the death of our real world in the future, everyone gets digitized and becomes... well, Immortal. To a degree. But how to do you spend immortality? Video Games... of course, with everything being digital... and with Hyper Advanced A.I... it's possible to create games that simulate what reality used to be like. Our story takes place in Starduster MMO, a fantasy based MMO game where the game's story is run mainly by player choice, with any choice being an important factor into anything. Our main point of view is Avery Hall, who specializes in the Sniper Class, a long range damage class that uses a Rifle. He is quite efficient at making use of all he has available, and is kind of a jerk. Avery also has been preventing the Progress of the game by holding on to a Key Artifact, other players find out about this and after a while decide they don't want him around anymore. While normally death lowers levels... his reputation is too low within the game and he gets banned, luckily he has a second account, as most V.I.P. users in the world do... Avery, swears to return the status quo, but maybe he'll be good this time... hopefully, habits take a long time to stop. So we join Avery's journey to get back to the top, just make sure he doesn't forget to properly transfer accounts.

Bubble Bubble, Toil and Trouble

It's not hard to get a holy Brazier.

Ok that's a lie, it's actually really tedious to get one normally, but since when have I ever done anything normally?

Actually, before we continue with that train of thought, let's get the Job change.

I arrived at a large building, it was made of wood and stone much like the rest of the town, but it had neon lights depicting potions being brewed and a sign reading " Alchemy Academy ".

No, I will not be having a school arc, I'm just going to buy a job token. It costs 50 silvers, that's a large portion of my funds right now but it has to be done.

I entered the building, inside contained a front desk labeled " Administration " and two doors flanking it. I walked up to the counter and asked about the job...

Ankolo LVL 1

Alchemist

Me - " Excuse me, but I was wondering if I could change my job to Alchemist here by chance? "

Ankolo - " Door to your left "

Despite her young appearance, her voice was hoarse suprisingly, I walked down to the left door and entered.

To my surprise, there was a weapon rack filled with Job change medals, I guess I don't pay here? That's weird.

I picked one up and used it.

Job changed to Alchemist

Alright, now this is where we make ridiculous stuff.

I left in a hurry, hoping to not have to pay. I'm going to be headed to a church, any will do, in order to get a holy Brazier.

Normally you need a high reputation to get one directly, but you can buy one with a few gold from a corrupt church member. Greed is one such fallacy that the game emulates perfectly.

Unfortunately I only have 1 Gold, so rather than getting a Brazier of my own, I can only borrow one.

Wich means I get only 1 opportunity. It's kind of like a Gatcha.

The church was wood and stone, such is a running theme, but the wood was painted white. I entered the building.

While I'm not a criminal, I have dealt in bribing before, I easily licked out a Priest and slide him a coin, saying...

Me - " I'll be using the Brazier a bit, hope you don't mind "

I walked straight to where they keep my goal, and paid no head to whatever he said.

Me being a Half Demon now doesn't matter with my relations to most churches, I guess they know that money can buy off players anyways.

I entered a empty alter room, nothing but the blue glow of a Luminated Holy Brazier. I began the summoning process.

I offered my own blood once again to the Altar. Its been effective so far.

Summoning Confirmed

Name your Creature

Well it has either fire holy or dark holy, names for those types are easy.

I decided on Asi, it was the name of a holy weapon used for extermination of evil, in a popular telling of it's story, the wielder is known for being born from divine and devilish backgrounds. Whereas the Sword is know for it's searing strikes, that being the blaze the weapon creates.

I knew this name from an old friend who loved these stories. I used names like those all the time.

So, system, name the creature Asi.

Confirmed

Achievment " Blood king " can affect the summon, allow this?

Yes, might as well.

Creature created

Asi

Level 0 Spirit

Holy / Fire / Dark

Created from the blood of the one who sheds the most blood, this spirit burns with Divine and Devilish Fury.

Asi - " Hello... are you my master? "

Me - " Welcome to the party, Asi, I'll be taking care of you from now on. "

Asi looked like a very small ghost, like a lit torch without the wood part, inside containing a small featureless humanoid.

Similarly, it's voice was feminine, but not apparently obvious at first.

System, link this creature to me with the Demon Rod.

Confirmed

Congratulations on linking with a 3 type spirit.

Oh yeah, three types. I think that it's really rare for that to happen. I wonder if the Blood King thing had something to do with that.

System, what are Asi's abilities?

| Creature " Asi " , has enchantment and evocation type" Cleansing Fire " Magic, it uses a mix of all three of it's elements.

Additionally, due to it being a spirit, non Magic attacks deal less damage to it. |

Pretty good, enchantment would allow me to use magic bullets again. I'm going to have to practice that.

So, that means we need another grinding session.

Alright, before that... let's confirm our abilities.

I can do AoE and DoT type damage from long range, as well as burst.

Dice can use DoT damage and tank.

Asi can use Enchantment and sustain damage.

I don't know any ridiculous grinding spots at this level. The best way to level up past 30 is too buy XP potions. So rather than grinding for XP I should for materials and money.

I know there is a dungeon filled with Fox Yokai that drop ridiculous Gold and Materials.

Actually, I should just grind Dice and Asi's levels for now.

We could go to Demon village, or Ice cap, or we could PK some people. Those are the best choices.

Maybe...

Demon Village has High gold and mats

Ice cap has high XP and mats.

PKing has High Gold and XP.

I'll go with Demon Village, we still get XP so they will still level up fast. The gold and materials will also be really helpful.

Asi can fit in my pocket, and Dice can fit two. So we can Hoverboard to it.

It's actually a few days away because we can't teleport there. And... we have to go through DP Valley.

It's got high notoriety for early game PKers to be there. Even though they are about level 20 I could easily loose if they are too close.

It's very dangerous.

But we can reverse PK them.

It's night now, since the game comes with an instant camp set... I can chill under the starts for a bit. We ate a quick meal.

I got Dex from the meals, Dice got Con. Asi doesn't eat.

As it was then I heard a rustling, a rustling outside my tent door, a visitor... and nothing more.

It was a level 30 Swordsman, his name was in red symbolising how many PKs he had done. I remember when I PKd people.

He was standing about 15 feet from me, I pulled out my handgun and used Trickshot to fire an explosive round at his feet.

His reaction speed was slow for a level 30, or maybe my Dex was too high for him.

System, use skill dash.

Confirmed

None of us were asleep, I just reacted faster, that's when Asi and Dice came out.

The blast hit the man's feet as he drew his blade, knocking him down before receiving a splash of acid and a Enchanted Fire bullet from me, courtesy of Asi and Dice.

Suprisingly he wasn't dead, but rather he got up and slashed at me. He was around half health from that.

I fired out some prepared shots I had in my handgun, 2 hit him in the chest where the other 4 missed. He sliced at me, carving a huge cut along my chest. I dashed back and consumed an apple to heal, Dice Snuck up and clenched it's acidic jaws around his legs, melting the skin around it.

Asi shot out a small puff of flame into the swordsman's eyes, it didn't do any damage but it did blind him a little bit.

That's when I shot him with my revolver in the head.

You have killed player " ---- "

Asi got to level 13, Dice evolved again.

I didn't level up... for some reason.

Dice is now a " Armored Corrosion Centipede ", a dramatic change in size accompanied, it would barely fit on the hover board now...

Crazy. Why aren't I leveling?
