StarDuster - Glory of the Umbral Avenger

My Father always told me to stand tall, this is my opportunity to do just that. [ This novel has been discontinued, a redux version of this series is currently in production. ] A glorious reign over the realm only to be hunted, a glorious return only to be haunted. Avery Hall had a fair share of experience when it came to the many layers of humanity. With the death of our real world in the future, everyone gets digitized and becomes... well, Immortal. To a degree. But how to do you spend immortality? Video Games... of course, with everything being digital... and with Hyper Advanced A.I... it's possible to create games that simulate what reality used to be like. Our story takes place in Starduster MMO, a fantasy based MMO game where the game's story is run mainly by player choice, with any choice being an important factor into anything. Our main point of view is Avery Hall, who specializes in the Sniper Class, a long range damage class that uses a Rifle. He is quite efficient at making use of all he has available, and is kind of a jerk. Avery also has been preventing the Progress of the game by holding on to a Key Artifact, other players find out about this and after a while decide they don't want him around anymore. While normally death lowers levels... his reputation is too low within the game and he gets banned, luckily he has a second account, as most V.I.P. users in the world do... Avery, swears to return the status quo, but maybe he'll be good this time... hopefully, habits take a long time to stop. So we join Avery's journey to get back to the top, just make sure he doesn't forget to properly transfer accounts.

A Battle for a True Hero

With a dampening light of red, blue, and purple... Mana saturated the infinite space with a dense sludge like fog.

Movement slowed, magic clanked into place while countless blades were bouncing harmlessly against my now massive wings. Reacting to any stimulus in a proper way like an A.I. it defended blows from all directions be it Ice or Steel.

But even as I finished a powerful spell, I was still in the danger zone. This spell could leave me open for an attack, execute, reflect... hell, I could drain my own health from it and lose immediately.

Life... is a gamble.

25 Total spells.

I can't reasonably fit more, I can only do so much because its all tier 0... basic stuff. Together they will be able to give me a reasonably good change of winning, now... to add Chant and Ritual Magic.

Using Alchemical power with the spell I hold was hard, but I began carving out a huge ritual circle around my feet. Jotun desperately chipping away at my many wings, all reflecting attacks and removing any magic coming my way.

Every once in a while though she gets a trike at me, it takes a large portion of my health and pulls away my focus for a little bit... but I'll never stager, I can't lose control over this spell or I might end up... losing.

I haven't lost yet... reasonably lost at least. If I do this time then... I have no excuses. So, I'll put up the pressure just a little more.

While keeping my other spell up and using alchemical power to carve away a ritual circle... I begin firing from GodSlayer Rifle. Shots hitting Jotun were rare yet potent, yet I could hardly focus... each time I shot my mind wavered more and more. I was pushing myself further then I've ever gone before yet again, it seems I keep doing it.

I wonder what will push me further next time I'm in a figh- STOP! Damnit, I nearly lost focus there... Alright... Chant Magic time...

I can't... think... my mind is melting away at the strands... no words come to my mind besides...

' Stand Tall '

... Mom ... Dad. Alright. I will, and... I will pass it down.

- " When the night has come, and the land is dark... and the moon, is the only... light we see... "

Many Shards of ice were pelting away at my wings, my voice becoming more and more desperate as motion got faster and faster -

- " Should the sky, that we look upon... tumble and fall. Or the mountains... should crumble, into the sea... "

I heard the desperate yells of Jotun pounding away at every nook and cranny I left open, my rifle was away now... and my eyes were closed, hands clasped like a prayer.

- " I won't be afraid...no I won't...share my fear, just as long... as you stand... stand by me... so... darling... darling stand, by me... "

The rings of blades stopped as mana began pouring out of me... more than a... no, this is by far the most mana I have ever seen in game.

- " ... When my light... that I cling upon, should fall away... or the darkness, pull me in... I won't... be afraid... no I won't, let it win... just as long, as I stand... stand by you. "

- " So Darling... stand... by me... "

The ritual circle clicked into place as my chant completed, the magic was ready...

But my heart ached, my head cracked and blackened from nothing... my power faded, and I fell.

As I fell, I noticed that so did Jotun.
