A Ghost No Longer

As the Ghost went into surgery, his conscious mind retreated into his subconscious.

"Hello?"

"So, you deem me unworthy."

The Ghost was staring face to face with the demon part of himself. The Demon manifested itself as a dark version of him.

"That nice guy crap, I thought I beat it out of you."

"Clearly not."

"So, you do still live, show yourself you coward."

The Ghost's own image shifted to resemble a bruised and battered version of himself.

"I'm a hard one to kill."

"That you are, but foolishly you exposed yourself to me. Time to die."

"You know he'll show up."

"I hope he does."

From a corner of the Ghost's Mindspace, walked up another him, this one rolled up his sleeves and flicked his arms up, assuming his place in front of the hurt version of the Ghost.

"Ghost."

"Protector. Long time no see, here to fight me?"

"No, I'm here to set us free, no more cold-hearted asshole. It's time for us to take our places once again."

The Ghost grinned as he swung at the Protector, the Protector dodging, occasionally tossing a punch at the demon.

The Ghost rushed the Protector and socked him in the face, however, the bruised Ghost had stepped in the way.

"The hell are you thinking?"

"Give you full control, chains off. Kick his ass."

The Protector flicked his arms out again, this time with a stern look. The Ghost rushed at him, only to be met by a fist to the sternum. The Protector picked up the Ghost.

"You no longer have a home here. I sentence you to a dead fitting of demon."

The Protector gave the Ghost a bear hug, increasing the strength of his hug as he held the Ghost off the ground.

"Put me down!"

"You've hurt us, him, long enough, go back to the hell from which you came and drown in it. Never come back here."

The Protector crushed the Ghost demon sending him out of the mind space, freeing the two at last.

"Say we?" said the Protector looking at the nice guy standing before him, dusting himself off.

"Let's get to work."

As this had all happened, his body had been out of surgery for two months but had been in a coma while his mind battled to get back what it had lost.

The slowly opened his eyes and looked over to see his wife. She was fast asleep sitting next to him, head resting on his leg. He gently moved her hair aside and held her cheek. She opened her eyes to see him looking back at her. She hugged him tightly.

"I thought I'd lost you." she began to cry

"My love, I am no longer one with my demon."

She looked at him, for the first time, she saw tears in his eyes.

"That means..."

He nodded. "I'm me again, at peace, and I can feel things again." He held her hand tightly.

She kissed his cheeks and looked at him. "I couldn't be prouder of you."

As they hugged the doctor walked and was taken back to see the Ghost was awake.

"Ghost! You're awake."

"Do not call me the name of my former demon, Dr. Brittany."

"Then...what should I call you?"

He looked to his doctor, then looked to his wife and held her hand."

"You can simply call me..."
