Meeting The Doctor

"Bai Mei Xing?" said a woman in a nurse's uniform. I looked up from where I was sitting in the back of the OBGYN's waiting room.

"Here," I replied, standing up. The nurse looked around to see if anyone else was coming with me, but when she didn't see anyone, a brief look of pity flashed across her face. That was fine. I had secrets that she didn't know.

All the other couples watched me walking across the waiting room to where the nurse was standing.

It was like one step up from the walk of shame.

"Date of birth?" asked the nurse, checking her files when I gave her the answer. She nodded her head and smiled. "This way," she continued as she led me down the hallway to the actual patient room. "We will have to do a few tests before the doctor comes."

I nodded my head in understanding. I had never done this before, but I had read everything I could find online about the process. She handed me a cup and pointed the way to the bathroom.
