They scurried through the frigid, icy underbrush, both warriors' instincts sharpened to their utmost – even the slightest twitch of a branch, the faintest crunch of snow underfoot, could be heard by their trained ears.
Kai stole a glance at Kiara as they moved, and his gaze lingered for just a moment longer than necessary. There was something about the raw fury sparking in her eyes that unsettled him, not just because of the monstrous foes they were about to face, but because he knew—he sensed—that something deeper was at play.
Kiara was no stranger to rage. It was a part of her, a driving force that pushed her beyond human limits. Yet, there was something different today.
