Mysterious Death of Birchshire Couple

Scarlet pov

I could not believe that the magic had been used in my palace without even a fear of my presence. Have I not been strict enough or do others thought that they were stronger than me?

I looked at the girl who was still standing in front of me with a smile on her face. She did not notice that my fire had already burnt the spell used on Evans. But I was sure if she knew that, she would try again.

If i want i could throw out this pest in a second or better kill her then and there. But then i would not be able to know her plan and at the same time, i want the offered properties. So, I have to keep her by my side for a whole year.

But that did not mean that I could not teach her a lesson.

"Then, I wish you good luck for your treatment and I hope you rest well." I replied as I moved my hands towards, she held by hand to kiss it when her eyes widened and her face started to turn blue.

A jolt of electricity hit her whole body and she shook like a dried leaf. Anyone who would see her would realize that she was in pain, yet I feigned ignorance.

She continued to shake but was not able to even form a word. When I was satisfied with the show, I let her go.

"Oh my, is the bleeding increased or are you feeling too much pain? Your face is not looking good!`` I asked, showing concern which was not there in the first place.

"No, not at all, my lady. I am fine.``then she looked at my hand and then my body. She was trying to find the source of her pain.

Yet she did not find anything. Too dumb! Let me help you so that you know whose path you were trying to cross!

"Did you like my ring, Lady Birchshire? Is that why you are looking at my hands intensely?" I asked with a smile as I moved my hand in front of her so that she would have a good look at it.

She gulped and her face cracked. Everyone could see the anger surging in her heart, yet I ignored it. "This is a special ring. A high priest gifted it to my mother. I did not remember much except that it is precious. And I should not take it out. Well, that was what my mother said. By any chance, did you know what is its speciality." the moment i finished my words, her face turned normal again.

Tsk! Such a bad job at hiding your feelings! Weren't you behaving perfectly in the royal palace before?

"No, my lady. How could a strong woman like you not know such information. Then how would I, a mere baroness, know something so precious. I was just mesmerized by its charm.

She finally let go of my hand and stood there with a smile.

"Then continue with your treatment. I shall take a leave.'' I just hope that the man standing behind her would get the hint and work it accordingly. She bowed her head and I cussed the man who was still standing like a statue.

"You are nothing but a dumb man. I don't even understand how you even saved my life. If he had claimed it, I would have accepted it, paid him the house and all other luxuries and then let it go but he didn't even ask for anything when he took care of me unconditionally. Now it was my turn to return the favor.

I shook my head as I staggered after I left the room. The ring in my hand was powerful enough to absorb all the magic around her.

It was a precious gift by the high priest to my mother. It gave me an advantage and made me strong when magic was used around me. But to break up to that level and turn the whole body blue! Just how much mana did she have. That even made me stagger.

But for now both Amber and Evans were safe from whatever she was doing with them. I thought that there was sufficient time but now it looks like I have to dig more about her urgently.

"Where the hell is Aurora!?" I shouted and just then a swoosh sound filled the hall. I fumed as i turned,

"We still have doors in our palace." the girl just shrugged her shoulders and patted her dress as she stood up.

"I heard that you were calling me, my lady. I never knew that you missed me so much." her narcissist overconfident yet coquettish behavior could never improve.

"I thought you were not going to return anytime soon!" I turned again as I started walking towards my room.

"How could that be? Didn't I inform my lady that I would be back in a day. And I never break my promise." she patted her chest righteously as if she was swearing her love for me and I rolled my eyes and entered.

Like always, all the maids left the room when they saw both of us entering together.

"If you are done with your act. Speak! Have you found anything or have they covered it too well?" though i was sure it would be later.

Adopting an orphan that had already turned adult at the prime age when they didn't have their own kid yet was already too suspicious yet the death of the couple who have not even crossed their thirties due to heart failure was something no one was able to digest. But no matter how much the matter was searched, nothing was found about the death of Birchshire couple and so as about their new daughter who had turned the owner of their whole estate and title of Baroness due to only surviving heir of their lineage!
