Chapter 10: Rival Mate
Selene doesn’t know what to say. She’s heard the term mate a few times now, and still has no idea what it means. She doesn’t want to hurt Onyx’s feelings, he’s clearly excited about her being his mate, but she needs him to clarify what’s expected of her in this situation.
“So, when you say mate,” she says while slowly pulling her hands away from his grasp. “What exactly do you mean?”
Onyx’s eyes darken as he furrows his brow. “What do I mean?”
“Right,” Selene replies with a weak smile. “Do you mean, like, mates as in were really good friends? Or, mates as in I’m going to be joining your pack?” Selene isn’t sure how to word it.
Onyx stands up and walks towards the hearth. He keeps his back toward her as he contemplates his answer. She can’t tell if she said something wrong or if the Alpha is just having a hard time coming up with an explanation. Her stomach does a little flip and she wishes she could go back to making out with him.
