Chapter 19

"Isn't it great? You're getting along well with your brother."

Oneiroi appeared beside me with his hand under his chin, while looking at the closed door after Adam left my room.

Sidereae ignored him and walk straight to her bed.

"Hey!" He called her out, feeling offended for being ignored.

"What is wrong with you?"

"You tell me," Sid sarcastically replied.

"Were you upset about what happened?"

Sid sighed. She closed her eyes and covered her face with both hands, "How can I not be upset? I... I just killed a... I just killed someone," She almost couldn't finish her words.

Yes, it can be considered self-defense because her life is on the line. It was an act of survival, but still...

"How long are you going to brood over it? Kill or be killed, that's the only thing you should imprint in your mind. It's a rule that you must never forget because guilt, morals, or whatever you humans like to call it are all useless when your life is on the line," Oneiroi said as he lay down beside her.

"But--"

"You'll get used to it. The first kill is always the hardest."

"How can you say that!?" Sid snarled in frustration.

"Ha! Seriously..." Oneiroi sat on the bed and look down at her.

His purple eyes darkened, and a serious expression took over him.

"Listen, Dreamer, if you're going to keep thinking about it, you're going to lose your place to escape. And remember, the Dreamer who killed Elknox is still out there roaming around freely without any ounce of remorse."

Sidereae bit her lip. Oneiroi is right, she needs to keep herself together if she wanted to find the man who killed her father.

She took a couple of deep breaths, it's not easy, but she'll try to get over it. She reconned that this is not going to be the last time when she had no choice but to kill.

"Okay..."

Oneiroi smiled at her and put his two fingers over her forehead.

"Now, sleep. You have a dream to finish, Dreamer."

I opened my eyes and found myself inside a large luxurious room filled with ornate items like vases made with ivory, ceramic dolls with eyes made of gemstones, silk linens embroidered with gold and silver threads, a chair and table made of the highest grade of wood, intricately carved by a craftsman.

There's also a walk-in closet filled with expensive dresses, shoes, and other accessories.

It made me feel like I traveled back in time, set in the Renaissance era.

I strode toward the king-sized bed and lay down. My body sink comfortably on the soft mattress, I rolled over and grab a fluffy pillow to hug as I let out a long sigh.

Roesia Dorn Blackwell, the only child of Duke Jarvis Darman Blackwell. Her mother died of illness when she was only three years old. She grew up in the care of the servants because the Duke frequently goes to the battlefield. Even if the duke is around, Roesia rarely sees her father because he was always busy in managing the duchy's affairs.

For this reason, Roesia grew up distant and timid. However, thanks to her childhood friends Kaillan and Amira, she was able to smile and be herself.

When she reached the age of 7 she became engaged with Kaillan under Duke Blackwell and Count Arno's agreement. She was happy since she like Kaillan because he treats her well and is affectionate to her.

As years passed, Roesia felt that Kaillan and Amira changed along with the gazes of the nobles. She noticed a strange air between Kaillan and Amira, but Roesia decided to brush it off, thinking that they were just close, and she was just overthinking it.

She ignored the whispers that she heard around. Voices that mock her for not noticing that Kaillan doesn't love her. Roesia didn't believe the rumors, knowing that Kaillan won't do something that'll hurt her.

But then, Roesia, unfortunately, witness Amira and Kaillan having an affair in his room.

"Haa... Isn't this the usual plot for a romance fantasy troupe?"

The wind blew, ruffling the leaves outside my window, allowing the light to penetrate between the gaps. I raised my hand to block the sunlight is hitting my face.

"Oh!" I was amazed at how slender Roesia's arm is. She has long slender fingers and soft hands that are void of any callus.

I got up from the bed and quickly ran towards the full-length mirror to inspect my current appearance.

"Woah!"

I couldn't help but gasp in surprise as the mirror reflected my appearance. I grew taller which perfectly suit my slender body. My skin looks fair and silky, leaving no trace of blemishes.

Roesia is without a doubt an attractive woman. She has a cute round face, a small nose, and plump cherry-colored lips. Her light gray eyes look peculiar, with a distinct touch of melancholy hidden behind her long lashes. Her long, wavy hair resembles a gorgeous sea of roses that elegantly blooms throughout spring.

"You're this beautiful, yet you let that man trample over your heart. Now that I am you, I swear that he will regret hurting you."

Knock, knock, knock!

"Milady, are you awake?"

My head turned toward the door as I heard the maid's voice.

"Come in."

The door opened, and the maid entered the room with a bouquet of red and pink carnations.

"Lord Kaillan sent you a flower and a letter, Milady."

"I see. Just put it on the table."

The maid was taken aback at my lukewarm response. She must be wondering why I didn't act excitedly at Kaillan's gift, since Roesia looks delighted every time she receives a present from her fiancé.

I walk towards the table and picked up the envelope.

"Bring me tea before you go," I ordered the maid, who was still standing in the corner waiting for orders.

"Yes, Milady." She bowed and left my room quickly to fulfill my request.

I sat on the luxurious sofa before opening the envelope to read the letter.

"Tch."

I couldn't help but roll my eyes in annoyance as I read the nonsensical pleasantries that were written in the letter. Nobles surely do love to speak in a roundabout way, instead of going directly to the point.

The side of the letter crumpled, and my face darkened in anger as I read the contents of Kaillan's letter.

"Pfft... Hahaha!" Laughter filled the room. It was a boisterous laugh that is unbefitting for a lady.

I swept my hair and glared at the letter on my hand in disbelief, "How shameless. He's telling me to find a partner for the birthday party of Marchioness Mydrede!?"

Ha! I can't believe that he was blatantly showing that Amira is much more important than Roesia, his fiancée. And that damn woman! How audacious can she be to covet a man who is already engaged?

I got up from my seat and took the bouquet of carnations that was on the table and threw it on the floor along with the letter.

Thud! Thud! Thud!

The flowers lose their beauty as the petals fell apart and crushed under my hard sole. The anger that soared in my chest slowly subsided as I mercilessly stamped on the flowers as if they were the faces of Kaillan and Amira.

"Marked my words, I will surely repay this insult in threefold!"
