After finishing the brief but rewarding meeting with Sarui, the members from the Squad From Hell gathered together outside Asa's house.
While not minding the passerby villagers looks, the group started chatting with themselves about the new pieces of information that the lone wanderer brought with her.
"Since the Daimyo is clearly desperate enough to hire farmers, we wouldn't have a problem to get a juicy piece for us." Said Ryuuji with a grin on his face.
Manin let out a evil laugh while agreeing with his companion "Yes! A good contract is what awaits for us, imagine all the fishes we can get!"
At the mention of fishes Beep started to visible let out a drool, as he said in a low voice "...Beep can't wait to eat lots of fishes..."
However, Syntax opinion differed from his companions.
"It wouldn't be wise to get hired first, I say the best course of action would be to make a name for ourselves first, so we can bargain way more once we settle for a contract." Hearing his words, Manin and Beep voice out their protest.
"Beep won't let you get those fishes away from him!" Although he was still wearing his basket on his head, Ryuuji could swear there was an angry expression on his bug friend face.
"You think I'll work for free!? Pah" Manin spit on the floor and continue "I'll be damned if I don't make a living here, you both were the one's to tell me to not save someone for free and I don't plan to regress back into my old habits!"
The memory of himself losing both his limbs from trying to help a group of drifters from cannibals was still fresh on his mind, luckily he now has both of his arms once again with him.
Syntax let out a sigh, which he can't, and explained "We wouldn't be working for free, the pay would be different, you should know by now the importance of making a name for ourselves first. It would open more doors for us after all."
Yet his explanation didn't reach Manin as the bugman countered "And will the renown will fed my mouth? Or prevent from one of us from dying without even having a roof or something juicy under our arms? NO!"
He paused briefly and continue "And will it matters if those doors are open once we end up dying out there? We have a different choice here Syntax, we're not in our land anymore, there's a chance to improve our way of living instead of just risking our lives meaningless."
Ryuuji had to give it to the bug man, he did make some points while arguing.
Syntax let out a loud sigh, which again he can't, and explained to him "Although you're right with certain points, you're letting out an important factor. These bandits we'll be facing are clearly noobs, they don't even know how to repart these lands and you expect them from killing even one of us?"
He motioned with his head to Manin and Beep and continue "You yourself should know what I'm talking about, we are clearly stronger than before, and unless we find ourselves facing the likes of Minami, we wouldn't be facing too much pressure."
And at that, Ryuuji had to interrupt and explain to Syntax "For what I can understand, there's not only shinobi's to worry about but other kind of individuals, such as samurai's themselves."
Yet hearing his words Syntax scoffed and said "What can just a couple of trained warriors could do? You saw how Minami was able play around with you all-"
Ryuuji cut him out "We we're not aiming to kill her, the outcome would have been different in that case."
"Yet she tossed you like a bunch of kids, you were bedridden and you're the only one that recovered, the rest of them are still groaning in pain if you haven't checked them yet." Syntax said with a firm tone.
Ryuuji was a little bit surprised at that piece of information and couldn't help but ask his companion "Is that true? I thought they recovered better than me."
And he was right, Sheks were able to recover much faster than humans.
Yet that didn't seems to be case, as both Manin and Beep shook their head in negative.
"I went to speak with Stenn and he wasn't able to sit up without groaning and trashing around. The rest I believe are in the same situation." Answered Manin without missing a beat.
"See what I'm talking about? So unless we face that kind of people, I do believe we will engage pretty well against punny bandits and what's better, we will have a positive image in the mind of people." Syntax continue after a few seconds.
Yet it was Manin once again who scoffed and said to him "And what's the point of getting a positive image of these villagers if the next time we came around they are dead? We can't baby sit every village we go around as it most likely this place is infested with bandits like back home, it is a lost cause."
And once again, it was a good response against Syntax.
Syntax rubbed his mask in annoyance and tried to explain "That's the point Manin, we would be getting ourselves renown around, making those bandits to think otherwise before trying to raid a village, and what's better if we make things right, they won't know where we would be staying."
Ryuuji couldn't help but think careful about Syntax words, while it did make sense for him, and was able to see a few points against his reasoning, he couldn't deny that it might be feasible for them.
"You think that bunch of idiots would care about the nonsense stories that some villagers in those forsaken lands would made up to prevent them from pillaging? You can do better than this Syntax." Manin was implacable with his response.
Yet it wasn't Syntax who answered him but Beep himself.
"We can impale all of those fuckers! Beep is sure they wouldn't like to mess up with us if that's the case! And once they get to know Beep sword skills, we wouldn't even need to do such thing!" His cheerful and childish like tone was a clear contrast with the grim content of his words.
Yet they knew that such thing was extremely efficient.
Manin this time didn't raise a word of complaint and remained silent while thoughtful.
Syntax remained standing stoically in front of Ryuuji while not minding his Hiver companion.
"We have to think about what our Shek friends will say about this matter, although what Manin first reasoned does make sense and it would undoubtedly be more safe in the short term, the points that Syntax made are hard to argue against. Even if you think otherwise Manin." Ryuuji finally said his opinion on the matter.
Manin let out a sigh, knowing quite well that the Sheks would choose Syntax's option on this matter. He didn't doubt about it for a moment.
What would be better for a Shek than save the lives of "Flat skins" and showcase the "might of Sheks" while bathing in glory and flowery words from the bunch of peasants they would be saving.
'Oh how mighty, honourable and merciful are the Shek, that they would extend such kindness to another world while making Kral proud' Manin thought to himself while almost screaming at imagining Seto's smug face.
"Stop sulking Manin, just don't bother with whatever you might be thinking and imagine yourself driving through mountains of fishes." Ryuuji interjected while laughing at his bug companion demeanor.
His words seemed to work as Manin stopped moving and even Beep seemed to relax.
Moving his gaze back, Ryuuji eyed Syntax and said to him "With all this chaos around we will be able to settle in a good place after servicing that Daimyo, then we can further go with our previous plan."
"Are we really following that plan in this... Place?" Syntax couldn't help but ask him back.
Ryuuji shrugged his shoulders "What else can we do? I do not wish to work under those guys for the rest of my life, we would sell our swords, get money, renown and a piece of land that would belong to us, and more importantly, enjoy what we achieve without worrying about bandits and whatnot."
Although Ryuuji said those words, he himself was aware of the bunch of bullshit they were.
In this world, they wouldn't find peace, at least not for a long time.
But what he needed to give to his group was hope and a goal to work with, in the meantime he would think hard of ways to achieve something meaningful and most importantly, to not let their fates at the hand of a blonde haired kid in the future.
If there was a future for them to begin with.
"We'll have to find a way to learn chakra, or have someone to teach us how to." Syntax suddenly said after agreeing with Ryuuji's words.
"You already heard what Minami said about it, no one will be willing to do such things, and the basics wouldn't work for horse shit." It was Manin who spoke again this time.
Ryuuni nodded at his words, already aware that the only people that would be able to teach them properly would be clan members, and even Minami wasn't that kind to reveal such secrets.
After all, each clan had their own set of ninjutsu, Taijutsu, kenjutsu, genjutsu and fuinjutsu. And none of those clans were happy for a bunch of strangers to use them without their permission or knowledge.
"Well that will be the case for normal people, but you have me." Was all that Syntax could said before Manin started laughing at his words.
Yet Ryuuji didn't. Mostly due one fact.
Syntax was a living machine. And if he use his knowledge from their world correctly, they'll be able to have an AI to create not only jutsus and other kind of techniques, but to learn the intrinsics from chakra and it's uses.
And for the question wether a machine was able to feel or even known what chakra is, well there was Syntax too.
He after all, was able to feel chakra.
Seeing that he was the only one laughing, Manin quickly looked between Ryuuji and Syntax.
"Wait, you were actually serious?" He couldn't help but ask.
Yet Syntax made a motion to remain silent as he said "I won't delve too deep into the matter right now since is not a proper place, but you can rest assure I will be able to create techniques for us."
Manin looked at his companion with surprised, yet he nodded at him and remained silent.
He knew that Syntax was the one that improved the fighting techniques of not only his Shek's companion, but made Beep a frightening swordman.
So if he said he could, then Manin would wait and see.
"Syntax, were you able to gain more information about what's going on with Beep?" Suddenly Ryuuji asked surprising the rest of them.
Beep looked over Ryuuji direction with questioning marks while Syntax answered him.
"Although I can say for sure what's going on with him, I already made a few hypothesis, the most likely being that our companion here is able to use whatever chakra has, and use it as energy for life. Draining and giving away at the same time." Hearing his words, Ryuuji raised his brows in surprised, yet a mysterious glint lingered on his eyes.
"I was thinking earlier today to make him do a few tests around the village and see the feasibility of my hypothesis. Would you like to know what it's about?" Syntax asked.
"Beep want to know!" Said the bugman in question with clear interest.
Ryuuji nodded his head.
Syntax motioned with his left hand towards the fields were various villagers were working and said "I'll be having Beep giving a plentiful harvest for the village, an early one."
Ryuuji couldn't help but smile at his words as he nodded in agreement. With Manin too eagerly nodding his head with approvement.
However Beep was visible disappointed as he said to Syntax "Is that all Beep would do? Beep don't want to do the same work he did in the hive!"
As a worker drone, before being Beep he was a member of the western hive in Kenshi, working on maintaining not only the farms, but also tending their cattle, getting raw resources such as copper, rock and iron. Basically hard labour that Beep wasn't really fond of doing it as his past still affected him.
Knowing his worries, Syntax swiftly reassured him "Don't worry, all I'll be asking you to do will be to practice your meditation and stop when I told you. The only exertion you'll do would be to test if you can increase the area of effect on your abilities."
Still in a dejected mood, Beep nodded his head half-heartedly. Not wanting to let the little bug man to change his opinion, they proceed towards the field.
Syntax had already proceed to inquire about the village plantations and current rotations. And the skeleton already procured a plan for Beep to follow in various scenarios. All variables already taken into account.
'An efficient work, as always.' Syntax let out a sigh internally while saying to himself.
"First we'll be working on you following my orders, I want for you to be able to heard my immediate order and follow it accordingly. Then we'll proceed with slowly making you consciously increasing this aura around you, is that okay Beep?" Syntax asked him and the Hiver just nodded his head without much interest.
Meanwhile Ryuuji and Manin stayed on the perimeter of the field while eyeing the their companions with curiosity.
The onlookers villagers that were working also stealed a glance from time to time. Yet they couldn't put too much attention to the warriors as they got a lot of work to do.
Syntax started to instruct Beep who lazily followed his orders and sat on lotus position while slowly entering in a meditative state.
"You think it'll work?" Asked Manin at Ryuuji while seeing Syntax trying to wake Beep from his trance.
Seeing the duo failing on their first try, Ryuuji let out a complicated smile and said to him "I do hope that's the case, but I dont know, is not something easy to achieve what Syntax had in min-... memory." Ryuuji corrected himself at the end.
Manin remained silent while keep looking at the duo who were going now for their third try.
Yet they keep failing while trying to make Beep stop when he was asked to. What Syntax wanted for Beep was to not only be able to stop when asked, but also continue soon afterwards.
He wanted to make Beep to continuously produce some vegetables, plants and fruits. Mostly to have the village to stockpile once they leave, but more importantly, to make Beep slowly practice so once they settle, he could use his ability on their benefit without any side effects.
Yes, Syntax was using the Tsumate Village as a testing ground. He would make the villagers test the results of Beep labour and gave Syntax all the necessary information to verify the results of it.
A few curious villagers started paying attention to the weird display, yet the ones that were closer couldn't help but be startled at what was encompassing in front of them.
Under their atonish gaze, they saw the beans sprout around the warrior, and growth until they reach their ripe period, and then wither away.
Only a handful of times they were able to see the other Bushi harvesting the results, yet most of the times he throw back the beans to sprout and continue the cycle.
Due to the several villagers beeing left stunned in their position, some went to call them attention for not working, however they were also surprised by what was happening.
Although at first they weren't able to understand what was happening. They quickly were able to understand that the komusō Samurai has been blessed and was trying to control such blessing.
And after various minutes and hours, under the reverential gaze from the villagers around, that were now easily around half the village itself. The inhabitants of Tsumate Village were finally able to see various pieces of the field being ripe to harvest from beans.
Beep and Syntax were finally able to correctly proceed with their first step after numerous attempts. With resulted in Beep finally being able to enter and exit his meditative state with easing.
Although his ability was yet able to cover the entire field like both wanted, the result was impressive to say the least.
Beep was able to raise the harvest at his liking. And under this same field, the Tsumate Village saw it born the story of The Blessed Swordman From the Fields.
A man send to stop the hunger in this world.
A saint warrior.
And most importantly, Beep saw the birth of an infamous title.
Soybean Beep.
