Never

The silence between us stretched out for a minute, the only sound the steady beep of the machines monitoring my vital signs. Finally, Mrs. Deli spoke up, her voice low and mysterious.

"The Samson you currently know could never be half the man your father was."

I felt a surge of frustration. What did she mean by that? Was she avoiding my question on purpose? I had asked her if Samson was my biological father, and instead of giving me a straight answer, she was giving me some kind of cryptic message.

"What do you mean?" I pressed, trying to keep my voice even. "Was Samson my father or not?"

But Mrs. Deli just shook her head, her expression enigmatic. "I've said all I can, Daniel. Please, just leave it alone."

I was about to interrogate her further when the doctor entered the room, a cheerful smile on his face. "Ah, Mrs. Deli, I see you're visiting our patient. That's great to see!"

Mrs. Deli took the opportunity to make a quick exit, bidding me a hasty goodbye. "Take care, Daniel. Get well soon."

I replied reluctantly, my voice barely above a whisper. "Goodbye, Mrs. Deli."

I refused to beg her to tell me the simple truth. If she wasn't going to give me straight answers, then I didn't want to hear it.

But as she left the room, I couldn't shake the feeling that I was missing something important, something that could change everything I thought I knew about my past.

Once Mrs. Deli was gone, and the doctor had finished checking up on me, I was left alone in my quiet hospital room, surrounded by the occasional beeping of the heart rate machine, which disrupted my raging chain of thoughts. The confirmation from Mrs. Deli about what happened that day meant that the creepy entity my mom and I met was actually real. How was that possible? Were monsters real? And if they were, what was Samson supposed to be if he scared away that supernatural freak of nature?

I began to remember how the madman who survived a headshot from my gun desperately begged for mercy once he saw Samson. How did Samson crush the man's skull and splatter his brains with ease? He then turned to me, looking unphased and indifferent, as if he did that kind of gruesome act daily. Recollecting our duel, I realized how much Samson outmatched me in strength and skill. He was probably some deadly serial killer who led a shady underworld organization of assassins. I got that assumption from the madman who disclosed that he had to kill me before his master arrived. The only one to arrive later was Samson, and the madman seemed to know exactly who he was.

I was sure Samson killed people with his bare hands just to flex his muscles and obviously scare the living daylights out of mere mortals like me. Well, come to think of it, I wasn't that normal either. I was once told by my mom that I had a rare rhesus blood defect when I was born. But years later, I went for my first health checkup only to find out that the defect was gone. It was like it never existed, leaving no trace in my blood. I even quit doing checkups because it seemed I was immune to any form of sickness.

If that wasn't strange enough, the doctor who came to check up on me discovered that I was completely healed of my wounds. He even did an X-ray scan to see if my bone fractures and dislocations were still present, but he was left baffled as the scan showed no damage. I was still in the hospital because the doctor wanted to cross-check my results, as he was confused about how my speedy recovery was possible.

I had to leave before that doctor decided to delay my release from the hospital. Call me a conspiracy theorist, but I believed in a lot of stories about people who were experimented on by some crazy scientist or secret government organization just to replicate their unique genetic traits. I grabbed my top and bailed without the doctor's knowledge. I met a nurse who had no idea about what was going on, so I convinced her to let me sign out while paying for my hospital bills in cash. I couldn't give these people a chance to track me down later. Call me selfish, but I refused to be used as a guinea pig for the greater good of humanity.

I finally stepped out of the hospital premises, feeling the urge to stretch my limbs after being confined to a bed for too long. The fatigue of prolonged immobility weighed me down, but I was determined to shake it off. Instead of hailing a taxi, I decided to jog all the way home, fueled by an abundance of energy and a supernatural adrenaline rush that coursed through my veins. This unique energy boost allowed me to tap into the coveted "Flow state" at will, a mental zone renowned for its association with battle-hardened fighters.

With a deep breath, I prepared myself for the run of my life, and then I sprinted like a cheetah, my feet pounding the pavement with incredible speed and agility. To avoid drawing attention from onlookers, I veered into the slowly darkening alleys, my feet carrying me swiftly and silently through the shadows. The wind rushed past me, whipping my hair into a frenzy as I devoured the distance, my senses heightened and my heart pounding with exhilaration.
