Ch.4 Trees

<p>For the whole walk Astrid and I kept glancing at each other, no talking. It was our way of communicating without speaking, we called it EBL (Eyebrow Language). Zennith kept his head down walking slightly slower than us. Soon we reached the check-in stand. The lady came from her resting spot in the back of the stand. <br/><br/>"Name?" she said in a angry tone.<br/><br/>Astrid stepped up to the stand. <br/><br/>"Astrid." <br/><br/>"I am going to need your last name." the lady said even more annoyed.<br/><br/>"Chrensheir."<br/><br/>"Okay, here you go. Next!" she called as she handed Astrid her card.<br/><br/>I motioned for Zennith to go to the stand, he moved forward.<br/><br/>"Name?"<br/><br/>"Zenith." he said softly.<br/><br/>"What was that?"<br/><br/>"Zenith" he said again.<br/><br/>"Full name! Full name people!!" she shouted.<br/><br/>"Zenith Voulbund." <br/><br/>Voulbund, that name sounded so familiar.<br/><br/>"Here you go, next!" <br/><br/>I stepped up to the stand. <br/><br/>"Name?"<br/><br/>"Izayia Daynaira."<br/><br/>"Thanks for listening kid. Daynaira you said?" <br/><br/>"Yes."<br/><br/>"Are you related to the royal Daynairas of Shadows?"<br/><br/>"I am not sure. What is that?" <br/><br/>"Hey kid listen, I like you so when you get done with your shift come see me." she said handing me my card.<br/><br/>"Yes ma'am." <br/><br/>"Please call me, Talla."<br/><br/>"O-okay." I said stepping away to let other people pass.<br/><br/>I continued to walk around the corner to the back of the factory Zennith waited for me around the corner.<br/><br/>"Are you ready?" I asked him.<br/><br/>He stayed silent and shook his head.<br/><br/>"Zennith, as much as you don't want to talk you have to."<br/><br/>"I know."<br/><br/>"Lets go." I said motioning toward the back door. <br/><br/>Once we got to the backyard of factory 11, Zennith followed me to the sawing station. Instructors and kids moved quickly around the area.The station that we were positioned at was called FC2 or Final Cut. <br/><br/>"This is FC2," I began to show him around. "And over there is FC1. This area here is where the trees are put after they have been transported. Any questions?" I said turning around to look at him.<br/><br/>He looked around before looking at me and nodding his head no. <br/><br/>"Zennith?"<br/><br/>"I don't have any questions."<br/><br/>"Ok. Follow me." I said smiling.<br/><br/>I brought him to the back to back room.<br/><br/>"We need to grab our aprons. There are some extras over in that bin." I said, grabbing my apron off the hook.<br/><br/>I put my apron on, tied it, and turned around to face Zennith. He fiddled around with the ties.<br/><br/>"Do you need help?" I asked him.<br/><br/>He didn't answer.<br/><br/>"Zennith?" <br/><br/>He stopped fiddling with the ties.<br/><br/>"Yes." he said in a disappointed tone.<br/><br/>I walked over and tied them.<br/><br/>"You could've told me you didn't know how to tie a knot, I would've helped you." <br/><br/>Once I was done he turned to face me. He face was red.<br/><br/>"What's wrong?"<br/><br/>"It is embarrassing, not knowing how to tie."<br/><br/>"Don't be embarrassed! I will teach you later okay?"<br/><br/>"Ok." <br/><br/>I turned around and motioned for him to follow. We walked out the door and over to FC2. He seemed to get more tense. I tought him how to run the machine, he learned very quickly. After I tought him new trees began to come in. I saw Astrid directing one of the horses. Once she saw me she waved, I waved back. She turned around, her limp made it hard to walk. She managed to grab the reins the horse before it got away. <br/><br/>Tree after tree time seemed to fly by and it was now 7:27 PM.<br/><br/>"Our shift is almost over." I said reassuring Zennith.<br/><br/>The next tree was coming down the bottom line and I began to line it up with the splitter. I happened to look up to the top line. Two trees were coming in fast. I finished lining the tree up and looked up again. The back tree fliped over top and began wobbling. I looked from the tree back to the ground to see if anyone was there, Zennith! I rushed to him.<br/><br/>"Zennith!!!" I yelled.<br/><br/>He looked up and froze and from there on it was almost like in slow motion. I ran to him, grabbed his arm and yanked him towards me. <br/><br/>"Stay there!" I yelled.<br/><br/>I ran over to the emergency stop button and pressed it. The giant saw blade stopped and the factory went silent. I looked up at the kid on the top line. <br/><br/>"I am so sorry!" she pleaded.<br/><br/>I looked back at Zennith. "Are you alright?" <br/><br/>He remained silent staring at me. Suddenly the sound of the door flung open and the authority instructor walked in.<br/><br/>"What the hell is going on out here!?" he yelled looking around.<br/><br/>Everyone remained quiet.<br/><br/>"Well, why have we stopped!?"<br/><br/>"A tree fell off the top rack sir!" I said to him.<br/><br/>"And? Was that any reason to stop the machine?" <br/><br/>"Someone could've got-" <br/><br/>"Answer the question kid!" he interrupted me.<br/><br/>"No sir." I said looking at the ground.<br/><br/>"Was anyone hurt?" he asked everyone.<br/><br/>"No sir." the girl from the top line called.<br/><br/>"Alright now get this going again! All of you will be staying late if you do get the rest of these done!" he paused. "Kid come with me." he pointed at me. <br/><br/>I walked forward towards him. He grabbed my arm and pulled hard. Out of the corner of my eye I saw Astrid, she gave me a worried look. I turned my attention back to where he was taking me, he shoved his office door open and pushed me inside. I had never been in here before.<br/><br/>"Get back to work!" he yelled at the rest of the group and slammed the door.<br/><br/>I could hear the sound of the saws starting back up and his footsteps walking somewhere. I looked at him, he walked over to the wall and he grabbed something black. This was going to be bad....</p>
