Anne's pov.

"Stop"

The alpha's voice brought me out of my brave girls' era. I paused as I swallowed hard. What was I thinking? I said I was what? Anne brown?

I immediately went on my knees and crawled to where he was.

"I'm sorry Alpha Jackson, I don't know what came over me. "I panicked.

"You don't know what came over you? "He exclaimed.

"Yes! I think I was possessed, it happens most times. I'm so sorry. "I let out.

What was wrong with me? I kept spilling nonsense from my mouth. I needed to get a hold of myself.

"Just get out!" Alpha Jackson spoke out.

Thank you, sir "

I said as I immediately ran with everything I came with, and I needed to get myself a shoe, I was a mess. I thought to myself.

On my way out, a beautiful young lady was headed to the Alpha's room, I would have ignored but my wolf halted me to a stop as she was so curious to find out who the young lady was to the Alpha.

I stood for a few seconds to see if I could hear a thing or two of what she was going to say to the alpha but then my ears rang as she banged the door behind her.

"Is she the lady he called on the Phone? "

I was curious as well, the mate bond was acting up and I could feel my heartache and wolf sobbing. I just took a deep breath, knocked off the feeling and went along.

I headed to the kitchen first to drop off the Alpha's dishes when I saw all the maids headed in a direction, I decided to follow them and I got to a gathering. In front was the head maid.

She gave an announcement that the Alpha's cousin would be coming today.

That announcement was the least of my problems, my mate was in there with another woman, and I couldn't explain what I felt. Was it pain, Anger or sadness?

It was usually at this point the warm smile would tap me. Immediately this thought came to me I realized I hadn't seen Elizabeth for a while now.

I tried looking but she was nowhere to be found so I just went about my duty. Since the Alpha was busy I was asked to take care of the grasses behind.

This was good I needed to take some fresh air. As I got outside the warmth of the sun embraced me and the cool breeze swept through my hair, it was soothing.

I decided to start with trimming of the flowers. Holding these scissors in my hands I thought to trim off the Alpha's d*** and then cut off the head of his plaything. Well, It was just a dream.

I continued my duty when a stone hit me from behind.

"Ahhh" I let out.

"Who was that", I said as I turned to see who it was. It was the same young man from the woods on my first day in this pack.

"Hey, nobody!"

He said as he gave out a smirk. He called me what I said my name was out of fear that day.

"You must not have respect for a lady."

"Not that. I have plenty of respect for ladies. The question is, are you a lady?"

That hit my ears as my eyes narrowed in shock. He just hurt my pride.

I couldn't see myself working with this jerk in the same environment, I would be arrested for murder.

"You must be a guard here, let's play a game." I let out.

'Why would I play a game with you?" He asked mockingly.

"You were assigned here to take care of the grasses too, weren't you? You, of course, would want some free time. So why don't we make a bet, whichever stone goes farthest on the pool over there will get to rest while the other takes care of the whole field." I spoke out.

"Okay, let's play. "He finally agreed.

We got to the pool, then I picked up two stones that lay by my side and gave one to the young man.

He collected it and it and swept it across the pool.

"Beat that let me see," he said with a smirk to his face.

He did pretty well but he would never be able to beat me even in his next life, I'm a pro in this game. Then I threw mine across and as expected it went the farthest.

"You've gotta watch your back always, you never know who is behind. " I said with a pat on his shoulders.

His face bulged with anger, he couldn't believe his eyes and now he was going to clear this whole field on his own. I felt like a victor.

"See you when we see" I smiled as I handed him pruning scissors.

I bounced off with my shoulders high, the feeling of winning is the best. I moved along when I saw the same young lady who came to see the Alpha, his plaything.

She acted very suspiciously, where was she headed? I definitely could not let her be, I followed her quietly then I saw her enter a room behind the mansion, it seemed deserted and that made it more suspicious.

I ran after her and then peeped through the keyhole to see what she was doing there. she was with a lady, I couldn't see the lady's face but from her dress, she was a maid.

The only thing odd about her dress was her apron, it had a spectacular button I had never seen before.

I could barely hear what they discussed, I tried reading the lady's lips and what I could pick was "poison the Alpha."

I gasped at seeing that. After the maid told the whore that, she bowed. It looked like the maid was her boss or something.

Then suddenly I heard people approach so I ran off. I pondered on what I had just seen, and I panicked.

"What should I do? " I mumbled to myself.

I decided to go report this to the alpha but I was obstructed by the head maid she asked me to join the other maids to take the trays to the dining.

Deep in thoughts on what to do, I realized if they were to poison the Alpha, it would be most surely done by poisoning his food.

"Ma, please I would like to see the alpha's food. I'm the Alpha's maid so that should be my duty." I quickly said to her before she could leave.

"Okay, come with me. "

She took me to where his food was served then I asked the maids to let me serve the rest. After I was left alone, I threw away the already served-out food and started afresh.

I made sure they were put by me alone, but unluckily the head maid ordered some maids to join me in carrying the trays.

"No ma, there is no need for assistance, I can carry them myself. " I said to the head maid.

I wished she had listened to me but she didn't instead she waved it off and insisted.

I decided to inspect the maids myself and check for the button I saw earlier but they were all clear, no one acted suspicious with a similar button. I took a deep breath.

We all headed to the dining and set the table, I and a few others stayed back at the dining in case of any messages. As I stood there I made sure to watch the people around the Alpha.

I would never forgive myself if anything were to happen to the Alpha. He might be cruel but he is my mate after all.

Everything went on smoothly when a maid I hadn't seen before brought a dish to the Alpha's table, I wondered who sent her when my eyes went to her apron and caught the button on it.

It was the same button I saw earlier.

I panicked, what should I do? The more time I wasted the closer it was to the alpha's death. My thoughts were scrambled, and then I saw the Alpha pick up the spoon and take the substance from the plate.

I got blank all I could hear was go. I moved towards the alpha with speed, hit the spoon out of his hands and took the plate to leave.

What was I doing?

As I turned to leave I slipped and fell into the hands of the guard I saw outside, what was he doing here I wondered when I felt something on my boobs.

What could it be? I looked down at my boobs when I saw a hand on it, I couldn't believe my eyes. I traced the hand and it took me back to the guard who helped me.

My eyes widened then I gasped. Out of instinct I slapped him and smashed the plate of food onto his face.

"I'm sorry Alpha Jackson I will take care of this insolent bitch. "

The head maid said to the alpha. Was she talking about me? I looked around and I saw eyes peering. Why were they glaring at me like that? I just saved the life of the Alpha.

I was still lost when a hand dragged me up and slapped me hard on my face.

"How dare you insult the alpha and his cousin, Alpha David, Now apologize immediately. "

My jaw dropped, I swallowed hard, my heartbeat accelerated, my wolf fell to the ground on realization, and hot flashes sprouted on my whole body. What had I done?

"Is he Alpha David, Alpha Jackson's brother ?" I let out as I pointed to the young man.
