Chapter 3 The Violent Mess

"George, your friends are over here!" My dad shouted and I heard Kyle and Peaches' hurried footsteps on the stairs. They flung open the door of my room before I could even start making space for them in that messy hell. My stuff was strewn all over the place and I hadn't bothered to clean until my four year old friends made an entry.

I didn't really know why I hung out with four year old, adorable kids but it was fun. They were from my neighbourhood and I used to babysit them when they were tiny. I realized that I enjoyed the company of these kids more than the grown up ones. They were always happy and never really salty. I was friends with more than half the population of my school, but they all were scared to be around me. They knew what trouble I caused, so they never really mingled with me much, although they would be nice to me all the time. That was just a fa ade and I loathed that.

Besides, I preferred playing hide and seek over hanging out in the mall or a club and pretending to have fun just to click a few selfies and posting it on social networking sites.

"Peaches, what are you doing?" I asked suspiciously while approaching her and peeked over her small frame. I jumped over and snatched my toothbrush. "That's my toothbrush! You can't comb your eyebrows with it!"

"What is this soft, cushiony stuff?" Kyle asked and giggled. To my surprise, it was a sanitary pad stuck firmly to his forehead and he poked the 'soft' part with his tiny finger tips. I chased him in my medium-sized, somewhat decent room, while dodging random stuff.

I grabbed Kyle by his waist and gently peeled the pad away. While doing so, I noticed Peaches trying to clasp my bra over her tummy.

"Why on earth are you doing that?" I asked and I rushed towards her.

"I saw mommy doing that," she replied and frowned at the bra wrapped over her tummy.

"That's up there! Not down! Let me help," Kyle offered and I shooed him away. I snatched my bra and with my feet, I swiftly pushed all the stuff under my bed.

At that very moment, my phone rang and I sighed. I picked it up and heard Greta's soft voice, "George? Can you come now to look after Clark? I need to go out for some work."

"Oh, yeah, sure. I'll be there in five," I replied and glanced at Kyle who had his arms around Peaches's shoulders as she furiously played the video game and he showed her which buttons to click. I cut the call and walked to them.

"I need to go out, ya'll can continue with your games since dad's home. I'll come back soon," I said gingerly and ruffled Kyle's hair as he whined.

"Fine, but where is mommy?" He asked and I froze. He was asking about my mum since he too was close to her. We had been fooling him that she was alive and on a tour.

"She'll come back soon," I lied and quickly walked out of my room, leaving behind a confused Kyle.

Since Greta left home, Clark was seated like a stone on the couch and I was busy watching television. I occasionally took a glimpse of his handsome face, but he just sat there. I sighed and got up to bring soup for him from the kitchen where Greta had kept earlier.

Suddenly, loud music shot through the house, blasting from the huge speakers in the living room and I danced in mirth. Finally, Clark was doing something and I must say, I thought he had an outrageous taste in music compared to his sad character. I swayed my hips and sang along the lyrics of 'Anaconda' by Nicki Minaj.

I laughed and poured the soup in a bowl when suddenly the music switched to 'Total eclipse of the heart'. Perplexed by the sudden change, I carried the bowl containing the soup to the living room.

My eyes widened in astonishment and fear as I saw him coolly sipping alcohol. That was not the only thing what took me by surprise. The sight in front of me made me shiver in pure fear. The entire room was destroyed to the point of being called unrecognizable. He was still smashing the glass, liquor bottle against the table and I noticed his hands were bleeding red.

I realized the music was just played so I couldn't hear what shit he was up to. I gazed at Clark who seemed awfully in pain which pinched my heart. He grimaced at the bloody mess he had created, but then squeezed his hand tightly causing more blood to ooze out and trickle down his fingers. It felt like he thought that he deserved to be in constant agony.

I gulped and took a few steps forward to help him.
