“Mace, Simon,” Andy greeted them. “Enjoying the reception, I hope?”
Simon did not actuallyroll his eyes, but he gave Andy a look that said he might have, if he’d thought Andy was important enough to expend the effort on. “I’m working, Howard.”
Andy hummed noncommittally; Simon hadn’t so much as handed someone else a champagne goblet all evening. “Howard-Stahl, now,” he pointed out. “I have a friend who wanted to meet you; Roni, this is Simon Johansson. Simon, Veronica St. Vincent.” Because the Johanssons were wealthy enough to actually stay abreast of high fashion, he added, “Yes, thatSt. Vincent, so behave yourself.”
Simon narrowed his eyes. “I mind my manners in a fashion appropriate to the company in which I find myself,” he said, then gave Roni an almost formal bow and took her hand. “And right now, I find myself delighted to meet you. Would you care to take a turn with me? I’d love to hear your views on some of the guests’ clothing choices.”
