The word 'Darling', had Mariam close her eyes and grit her teeth.
She had told someone else not to call her that, and here she is with someone that she knew, and that knows what she really disliked, calling her that.
She felt like giving him a punch right now.
Wait...!
'Why do I feel like giving him a blow, but I never felt like that when I was with Lucas...?' She asked herself.
"If you're thinking if punching me right now, better re-think that and safe it for the handsome young soldier you liked out of the blue just a few minutes ago...!" Samuel's voice echoed in her ears, causing her to awake form her reverie.
"I don't like him...!" Mariam said through her clenched teeth.
Samuel raised an eyebrow.
Standing up straight, Mariam adjusted her gown, cleared her throat and said;
"I don't like him, I never said I did, or I do because I only hair met him recently and..."
Samuel cut her short.
"Really? I thought you said...!" It was Samuel's turn to get cut short.
"Don't add spice to the seasoning because I never said anything...!" Mariam snapped.
Samuel shut his mouth.
Mariam glared at him.
After five (5) seconds, Mariam said;
"Even if I did like him or I doright now, how is that supposed to be any of your business...?" Mariam asked.
Samuel was silent.
"No, answer...I need and answer form you...!" Mariam said.
"I can defend myself and I could have, if you hadn't barged in, and I thank God that you did...!" Mariam added.
"But that doesn't mean you should be taking out all the anger in an unnecessary manner like this, we don't even like each other!" Mariam said.
Samuel's eyes that had been looking down and was playing with his fingers, suddenly looked up as she said those last words.
Staring intently at Mariam, Samuel asked;
"What did you say...?"
"I don't like you, you don't like me, we don't like each other, so what's the use of protecting me, when in the end, you're going to take it out on me like as if...you're my, like as if we're engaged or something...!" Mariam said angrily.
"I'm not getting younger everyday Samuel, and I've got to get married someday...!" She said.
"And that also applies to you too Samuel!" She added.
Samuel that had slowly lowered his eyes to stare at nothing in particular as she said;
'What's the use of protecting me...?!',
Now had his eyes fixed in Mariam.
"You said you could fight better that most of the soldiers in the courtroom...!" Samuel said in a gentle tone but the words were strong, and it hit Mariam... causing her to blush.
'Does he have to use that against me....?!' She thought as she frowned.
"Does you have to use that against me...?!" She asked irritably.
Samuel didn't answer, instead, he stared at her.
After a while, Samuel opened his mouth to say something but was hesitant. But then finally, he said;
"I was just trying to protect you and prevent you from doing anything stupid or that would cause you disrespect or bring dishonor to you...!" He said firmly.
Mariam frowned deeply.
'What's he talking about...?' She asked herself.
"What do you mean...?" She asked.
Samuel didn't answer, instead he just gave her look and then turned and walked in the direction of Andrew's room, not caring if Mariam followed him or not.
Seeing that her question was unanswered and that she was ignored, Mariam felt annoyed.
Sighing, she asked;
"Where are you going...?"
Samuel still did not answer but instead said;
"If you don't want to be left alone in the dark without a torch, you'd better follow me..!" He said sternly.
Mariam sighed and shook her head.
'What is wrong with Samuel today...?' She asked herself as she began to walk in order to catch up with Samuel.
And in less than five (5) minutes, she was able to catch up with Samuel.
Thankfully, he waited for her by the door to Andrew's room, with the torch in his hand.
Extending his left hand that was free to Mariam, Mariam looked up at Samuel confused.
"What for?" She asked.
Blinking casually, Samuel said;
"Unless you want to go in without a torch and something happens like just a few minutes ago...!" Once Samuel said that Mariam got angry.
"What's with you and that guy anyway...? It was even an accident...!" She asked irritably.
Once again, Samuel did not reply to her question but said;
"And you know he's the Prince, so he can do anything he please...!"
Rolling her eyeballs, Mariamcrossed her arms and said;
"I know Andrew and he's also my friend, not just yours...he wouldn't do something like that...!"
"Plus, he's drunk!" Samuel said.
"That part had Mariam holy a little.
Thinking for a second, Mariam placed her hand hesitatingly into Samuel's hand.
Samuel didn't show any expression, or anything emotional, as a sign at least to show what his mind thought.
His face was just blank, causing Mariam not to understand or guess what Samuel was thinking.
But as she placed her hand in Samuel's, Mariam sighed and then looked at Samuel.
"Are you ready...?"
Mariam frowned.
"Am I in trouble or did something bad happen that would be bad for me to see it hear or what? I don't understand...!" Mariam said impatiently.
"You can be all protective to your woman, but don't try that with me Samuel...!" Marian added.
"I'm older than you, so you've got to be careful or you're not gonna like what's gonna happen right now...!" She said, all agitated.
Samuel that hadn't looked at her since the time she placed her hand in his, now raised his eyes to look at her.
"What did I do now to deserve this kind of statement...?" He asked gently.
Mariam was about to say something but Samuel beat her to it.
"Why didn't you talk like this to Lucas, why me...?" He asked again staring straight into her eyes.
"Or is it because you've known me for a long time or because I'm too free with you...?" Samuel asked as he tilted his head to the side as he looked at Mariam.
