Chapter 15

The next morning, Jesse woke up snuggled in a warm blanket. He turned his head and noticed Ulric sitting on his own bed, eating breakfast.

"Good morning," the blonde said. "Did you sleep well?" he asked.

"Yes, thank you," the raven-haired boy said, nodding his head.

"It got cold last night, so I pulled the covers around your body to make sure that you're warm," Ulric said.

"Um, thanks," Jesse said, sitting up against a pillow.

"Are you hungry?" Ulric asked, standing up and heading over to a desk. "I got us breakfast," he said, bringing the tray over and setting it on Jesse's lap.

Jesse smiled and nodded his head. "I'm starving," he said, taking a bite of his scrambled eggs.

"Did you eat already?" he asked.

"Yeah, I needed to talk to Mac about something," Ulric said. Jesse raised an eyebrow in interest but lowered it again. He had resumed eating when Ulric asked, "Do you still want to see my wolf?" Jesse's head snapped up, and his emerald eyes widened with shock.

"Really?" he asked. Ulric smiled and patted Jesse on the head.

"I would've asked if I wasn't serious," he said. Jesse's smile broadened, and his eyes lit up.

"Yes, I'd love to see your wolf," he said.

It made Ulric happy to see Jesse smile. They knew each other for a short time, but Ulric knew that this boy was his fated mate. The question was, would this human accept his affection or would he run away?

"I don't want to rush this or he'll get scared off," Ulric thought to himself.

"We'll do it Friday, and if it's alright, we can check out our first dungeon," Ulric said.

"I can do some monster hunting," Jesse said.

"As long as I'm with you," Ulric said, nodding his head.

As they discussed the details, Jesse did his one hour of stretching. "What time will we go?" Jesse asked.

"Is 9 a.m. okay?" Ulric asked. "That way, we can stretch and eat breakfast," he explained.

"Sounds good to me," Jesse said.

"With that settled, let's head to the gym and work on your spear technique," Ulric said.

"But I thought you only knew the sword techniques?" Jesse asked.

"That's why Mac is meeting us," he said. Jesse pursed his lips and said, "Oh."

When they arrived at the gym, Mac was already there, practicing his spear technique. Jesse stood still and studied the moves that Mac made. A couple of moments later, Jesse pulled his spear from his bag and copied Mac's moves. Mac kept doing the routine, but watched Jesse out of the corner of his eye as the boy mimicked his every move perfectly. Ulric didn't want a repeat of what happened when he practiced near Jesse, so he moved towards a corner and practiced with his sword.

When Mac finished his training session, he walked up to Jesse, who had stopped and put his spear away.

"You learn quickly," Mac said, patting Jesse on the back.

"I watched how you moved and how you handled the spear," Jesse said.

"Are you sure that you haven't had lessons?" Mac asked.

"No, sir," Jesse said, shaking his head.

"So, the last time you came near a spear was a week ago?" Mac asked.

"Yes, sir," Jesse said, nodding his head.

Jesse checked his stats before heading over to where Ulric stood.

Jesse copied his stats and messaged Ulric, who smiled and gave him a thumbs up when he saw them.

"I'm so proud of you," he said, pulling him into a hug. "Let's go to the library," Ulric said. Jesse was puzzled at first, but then remembered that before the incident, he wanted to go there. Jesse nodded his head and followed the blonde out of the gym.

"My number one student has finally found his soulmate," Mac said to himself as he left the gym.

They only had to walk five minutes to get to the library, which was only two buildings away. At the front desk was a tall, slim, dark-skinned woman. She had gold-colored glasses on the bridge of her nose. A small angel tattoo adorned the right side of her neck.

"How may I assist you?" she asked, raising her chocolate-colored eyes as they approached.

"My new friend, who is my roommate, wants to use the library," Ulric explained.

"If he wants to check out anything, he'll need a library card," she explained.

As Jesse applied for the library card, Ulric sat down in a chair and waited. Ulric was reading a book about medicine when Jesse walked up.

"Did you get registered for a card?" inquired the blonde.

"Yep, all done," Jesse said, nodding his head. "I'll get my permanent one in a week," he said.

"If you want, we can look around," Ulric said, putting the book away. As they walked around, Jesse skimmed through some books that interested him. Jesse stopped when a book titled Animal Health and Behavior caught his attention.

He grabbed the book from the shelf and followed Ulric to the front desk. "Ma'am, can I check this out?" Jesse asked, placing the thick book on the counter.

"Let me see if nobody else is wanting this book," she said, picking it up and heading to her holographic screen.

"Got an interest in animals?" Ulric asked as they waited.

"When I was little, I wanted to be a veterinarian," Jesse said.

"Oh, a doctor for animals," Ulric said.

The librarian stepped up and said, "Nobody else is requesting this book." "You may check it out for three weeks tops," she said.

"Thank you," Jesse said, picking it up and putting it into his bag. They headed back to their room, where Jesse immediately took the book from his bag and propped himself up against the pillow.

Ulric laid on his bed and rolled onto his side. "When you become a vet, maybe you can treat me when I'm hurt," Ulric said in a joking manner.

"How can you get hurt?" Jesse asked, glancing at him with stunned eyes. "You are so strong," he said.

"Even strong people get hurt," Ulric said.

"Please don't get hurt, ever!" Jesse said, sitting straight up in his bed. Ulric kissed Jesse's forehead and said, "I can't promise, but I'll try,"

"Okay," Jesse said, feeling a little better.
