Reverberations from the past.

"What do you see when you look at me?" Vanessa asked, as she stared tearily at Raymond. "Broken? Hurt? Mad? Dangerous?" "Vanessa. That's all I see. I see you, Vanessa" Raymond replied shortly, as he bent on his knees to caress her cheeks. "A vulnerable Vanessa?" she asked "No. I see Vanessa, a woman struggling to make things right" he replied honestly. "I'm sorry I dragged you into this. I'm so sorry" she said almost in a whisper, but he heard her due to their close proximity. "You didn't do anything wrong. I should be apologizing instead. Vanessa, I..." "Stop, Raymond! Just don't. I can't even look you in the eyes" she said as she looked down. "You lost almost everything because of me. I'd understand if you blame me. But please don't apologize to me" she said as she wept uncontrollably. Raymond pulled her into his arms, kissed her forehead and hugged her tightly. "I'd never blame you, Vanessa. Never" "Raymond, can we start all over again when all these end?" "No..." ***** Aida grew up in a lovely home, with mother out of the picture. Chapter 41 Midnight

Aida woke up with a headache in the middle of the night.

"Arrrgggh! I guess I woke up at the wrong side of the bed today" she said as she tried to sit down, oblivious to the presence of her 'inmate'.

"Why is the room so dark?" Aida asked unaware of the person approaching her.

"Here" the person said, startling Aida.

Stifling a scream, she hurriedly pulled the string attached to the bedlamp to illuminate the room. Unable to hide her fright, she let out a loud scream but soon began to cough.

Unfazed by her reaction, the person brought the cup to her lips, and like a starving man in the mist of food, she hurriedly emptied the water in the cup.

Finally stepping out of her stupor, she asked;

"Why are you here? And how did you even...." suddenly remembering their first encounter.

"enter?" he completed the question and chuckled.

"Wait, your name is Ray...Reg...Ra" Aida struggled to remember his name.

"Raven" he said in a deep voice, which made her shudder in pleasure.

She didn't understand why she reacted that way or what it meant to react that way. Who was this man, who could make her body react this way just by mentioning his name?

From the confused and uncomfortable expression on her face, Raven obviously understood, she was new to all those feelings and she was finding it difficult to comprehend with them.

"Still afraid?" Raven asked trying to lighten her mood.

"Am i supposed to be afraid?" Aida asked.

Raven sighed loudly and said; "Listen, I asked because you were terrified a few minutes ago"

"And i asked if I am supposed to be afraid?" Aida repeated her question.

"I'm not going to hurt you" Raven replied smiling.

"Then i don't think I have any reason to be frightened anymore" Aida reply passively.

Raven only nodded.

"Can I sit?" Raven asked, pointing at the space on the bed closer to Aida.

"You didn't need my permission to intrude, did you?" Aida asked.

"Are you always like this?" Raven asked as he sat beside.

"Like what?" Aida asked

"Stoic, cold, giving cold shoulders here and there" Raven pointed.

"I'm not like that. I never do that" Aida defended.

"Then that makes me the first recipient. Such an honor!" Raven exclaimed, earning a scoff from Aida.

After a brief moment of silence, Aida asked;

"Who are you?"

"Why do you ask?" Raven asked.

"You seem a little kooky" Aida pointed out.

"I prefer spooky to kooky" Raven said.

"There's something about you. I can't point it out, but I can feel it" Aida said looking closely at Raven who only smiled.

"What do you feel? Care to share it with me?" Raven asked.

"I feel like....I don't know. It's kind of strange. I feel like I have known you for a while now, but I don't seem to remember where I met you" Aida replied honestly.

"Is that all you feel?" Raven asked looking at Aida.

"I...I..I don't understand how I feel" Aida replied honestly.

"I understand" Raven retorted. "Is there anything you else want to ask?"

"What are we?"
