After leaving the mountain, Max was filled with an overwhelming sense of excitement and happiness. He had successfully saved those stranded in the blizzard and couldn't wait to share his heroic adventure with everyone. Bursting with energy, Max hurriedly made his way home, clutching Blixem in his hand and his magic sack securely fastened to his back.
As Max opened the door to his house, a strange and unexpected event unfolded. Without warning, a gaping hole appeared in the ground, and Max found himself plunging downward.
"Ahh!" Max cried out in shock as he tumbled through the unknown depths.
Confusion gripped him as he tried to make sense of his surroundings. He was surrounded by a mesmerizing array of colors, hurtling through different realms at an incredible speed, far surpassing that of light. He passed through realms of trees, stone, snow, space, and countless others, each distinct and captivating.
"What's happening? Are these different realms?" Max wondered aloud, his voice filled with astonishment and anticipation of the unknown.
With a curious stretch of his hand, Max attempted to touch one of the realms, only to witness his hand transform into whatever substance the realm was made of. It turned to stone, then ice, then sand, each transition accompanied by a sense of awe and wonder.
"This is so cool! But where am I going?" Max exclaimed, exhilaration evident in his voice.
Eventually, the realms began to slow down, and Max's journey came to a halt. Before him materialized an old, eerie town enveloped in fog, constructed with cracked bricks and worn stones. Strangely, there was no snow in this peculiar place.
"Bang!" Max landed on his back with a thud, his body aching from the impact.
Ignoring the pain, Max quickly picked himself up from the ground. He surveyed his surroundings, realizing he was now outside the town, observing a handful of gloomy, despondent-looking individuals dressed in black, their heads hung low.
Perplexed and uncertain of his purpose in this mysterious town, Max pondered, "What am I here for?" He sensed something amiss, an inexplicable aura of foreboding.
"First, I will explore the town and uncover its secrets," Max determined, formulating a plan in his mind. He retrieved his magic sack and gripped Blixem tightly, venturing forward with a mix of curiosity and caution.
As Max wandered through the town, he couldn't shake off the feeling of unease that permeated the air. The atmosphere was one of destruction and decay, sending shivers down his spine. The few people he encountered seemed to be frightened or burdened by an energy he recognized as the malevolent presence of the evil Yulite.
"What happened to this town?" Max wondered aloud, observing the townsfolk, who appeared either terrified or enveloped in the corrupted influence.
"Wee! Wee!" Suddenly, Max heard a whistle coming from a small, dilapidated wooden cabin.
Intrigued, Max followed the sound and approached the cabin, its door invitingly left ajar. As he entered, a man inside hurriedly spoke, "Hey, by the way, you're not from around here, judging by your attire."
Max regarded the man cautiously, sensing the tinge of greed in his eyes, directed toward Max's magic sack.
"Yes, I'm an outsider. Can you help me?" Max inquired, aware that this was the first person to reach out to him or initiate a conversation.
"Sure, sure, but not without a price," the man replied, his voice tinged with avarice as his gaze fixated on Max's magic sack.
A wave of corruption washed over Max as he felt the man's intentions. It echoed the malevolence of the evil Yulite, further confirming his suspicions about the town's plight.
"Very well, name your conditions," Max responded, aware that he needed to tread carefully.
The man proceeded to list his demands, including a significant amount of water, food, and new clothes. Max listened patiently, arranging the requested items on the ground beside him.
"These are all the things you desire," Max stated, stepping aside to reveal the fulfilled conditions.
Eagerly eyeing the provisions, the man greedily approached them. However, Max positioned himself in front of the man, blocking his access.
"First, I need to know what happened to this town. Then, these rewards are yours," Max asserted, determined to gather information before fulfilling the man's desires.
With an annoyed sigh, the man reluctantly complied, recounting the tragic story of the town.
"For thousands of years, this town reverently celebrated the spirit of Christmas," the man began.
"But ten years ago, the joyous celebration ceased. No more presents were found under the trees, and as the years passed, the belief in Santa waned. Slowly, the townspeople lost their emotions and turned against each other," he continued, a mix of despair and horror evident in his voice.
"This is a forgotten town, and it would be wise for you to leave quickly, without looking back," the man warned, his tone filled with concern and trepidation.
Max absorbed the entirety of the man's tale, his heart heavy with the burden of understanding the town's haunted existence. He left the cabin, leaving the man to hastily claim the offered provisions.
As Max walked through the town, contemplating the story he had just heard and contemplating his next move, a realization dawned upon him.
"It seems I have been brought here to restore the joy and belief in the spirit of Christmas," Max mused, a tinge of sadness tugging at his words as he gazed up at the sky.
Noticing another broken yet illuminated Christmas ornament adorning a damaged clock tower, Max couldn't help but connect the dots. The evil Yulite tree had broken ornaments that still emitted light, and the absence of festive decorations in the town confirmed his suspicions.
"I am such a fool! The evil Yulite tree uses these ornaments to spread corruption, and this town stopped putting up decorations. They must be connected," Max exclaimed, a mix of frustration and determination in his voice.
Driven by his newfound understanding, Max stealthily maneuvered from rooftop to rooftop, concealing himself from the curious gazes of the town's inhabitants peering through their windows. His goal was to reach the clock tower, where the broken ornament awaited.
Upon reaching his destination, Max contemplated the best course of action. Should he remove the ornament from the town or destroy it altogether?
"I will destroy it right here. Carrying it out of town would only waste precious time," Max resolved.
Gripping the ornament in his hand, Max applied pressure until it shattered with a resounding crack.
Instantly, Max felt a gradual dissipation of the corruption emanating from the evil Yulite tree. However, a lingering presence persisted within the town, reminding him that more work remained.
Pausing for a moment, Max strained his ears, attuning himself to the whispers carried by the wind. Concern flickered in his bright blue eyes, overshadowing his once jubilant expression. Something was still amiss.
"These ornaments should have been the source of corruption, and yet I sense there is more to be found. I must search the town and destroy any remaining traces," Max declared, his voice filled with determination to cleanse the town of the evil Yulite's corruption.
With each step, Max scoured the town, uncovering and obliterating three additional ornaments. Gradually, the fog lifted, and he observed the townspeople emerging from their homes, engaging in conversations and exhibiting signs of life.
A surge of happiness and hope welled up within Max as he quickened his pace, eager to locate more ornaments and rid the town of its dark influence. However, as he turned a corner into an abandoned alleyway, his path was blocked by an imposing figure the evil Yulite itself.
