*Panting*
A series of pants echoed in the danger room, where a small figure stood surrounded by three robots on the ground, one with red lights still glowing and the other two with no visible lights left in their bodies.
"Well done, Velariel, but I think it's best to call it a day," said a voice from the speakers.
"All right," the little one responded, knowing that no one would hear her.
As she left the danger room, she met the man behind the speakers—Doctor McCoy.
"You're truly progressing quickly; in just two months, you've surpassed level three on normal difficulty. None of the other students could get past that so quickly on their own," the doctor praised.
"Thank you… although Professor Logan's combat classes were a great help," she replied, a little shy about the compliments.
"I can imagine; Logan is more beast than teacher when it comes to fighting," he said with a small laugh.
"True," the young girl agreed, nodding her head.
"Well, I'd like to chat more, but I have some tests to run and analyze, so I'll see you at dinner."
"See you later, Doctor!"

Velariel lay on her bed, feeling genuinely bored. There wasn't much to do in the mansion. Since the school hadn't opened yet, the other mutants usually went to a city school to continue their education, something she couldn't do because… of her condition. When the topic had come up with the adults, it had been an uncomfortable conversation, though it didn't matter much to her. After all, she'd spent five years locked up in her house.
Typically, her days included training with Logan in the morning, lunch, and then heading to the danger room in the afternoon. She told the adults it was to train, but it was mainly for two reasons: first, to level up her class and template, and second, to complete a mission she'd received two months ago:

"YES, FINALLY!" she shouted, standing up on her bed and jumping, only to stop a few seconds later as she remembered what happened the last time she got caught jumping on the bed. She quickly calmed down.
Two weeks ago, she had completed the Xenomorph Warrior template, but after giving it some thought, she decided to wait until she completed her class level and chose both at the same time. Why? She wasn't sure—remnants of her past life? Some compulsion? Who knows.
"So, Mina Ashido or Hinami Fueguchi? Acid or Kagune?" She'd spent these two months debating this, and though she knew she'd have time to complete both templates, she felt the need to choose the one that would suit her best.
After thinking a bit more, she told herself, "If both are good, just pick the one you like more!"
And with that, she chose Hinami Fueguchi, but not before using a weakness removal card to eliminate the issue of cannibalism. She already looked like a monster; she didn't need to act like one.
At that moment, she felt a burning sensation in the middle and lower sections of her back and a tingling throughout her body. After a few seconds, the sensations faded.

"Too bad I don't have the other two… wait… this might work," she thought, opening her status screen again, selecting Items, and using her upgrade cards on her current template.
"First, the percentage hasn't gone up; it's still at 1%. Second, I feel something different in my back, but…" After a bit of hesitation, she decided to use the last three upgrade cards on her template. This time, she felt a burning in her upper and lower back.
"It worked!" she said, grinning as she checked her template description, which now had several changes.

"Hardened Rc Shield increases the durability of kagunes in general. Thorn Counterattack makes spikes appear on my kagune for counterattacks when defending. Hardened Defense boosts my overall defense, and Rc Reinforcement allows me to harden parts of my body, not just the kagune, using Rc cells."
"And what do my kagunes look like?" With that, she removed her shirt and activated her kagunes.
From top to bottom, they looked like tree branches, with crystal-like purple leaves, some purple petals with black accents, a pink eye, and a scorpion tail, which resembled the pointed end of her regular tail—that is, the tail of a Xenomorph.
"This isn't bad at all," the little one said as she looked at her back in the mirror.
