Reflections of Us

Daniel’s life takes an unexpected turn when he wakes up beside a girl who looks eerily like him—only she’s not just similar, she is him, but in a girl's body. As they navigate the strange reality of their shared existence, Daniel finds himself drawn to her in ways he can’t fully understand, but that also make him question everything about himself. As emotions grow more complicated, Daniel battles with self-doubt, confusion, and a deepening connection to her. Together, they’ll have to face their inner struggles, all while Daniel begins to notice the way her gaze lingers on him just a little longer, filled with something unspoken—something that stirs feelings he can’t ignore.

Hidden Attention

The classroom buzzed with anticipation as students shuffled into their groups. Daniel, Diana, Ben, and Ava settled at a table near the window, the sunlight casting a warm glow over their workspace.

Ben, brimming with energy, grabbed the first worksheet. "Alright, guys! Let's get started. This is going to be awesome!" He immediately began scribbling notes and working through the first problem, his enthusiasm palpable.

Daniel and Diana each took a worksheet as well. The group became silent as Daniel and Diana focused on their work, the only sound being the scratching of pencils on paper.

Ben glanced at his sheet, grinning to himself. This is fun, he thought, his pencil moving rapidly over the paper.

Ava, chewing her gum, glanced sideways at Diana. You think you're so special, don't you? She crossed her legs and stared out the window, her resentment bubbling just beneath the surface.

Daniel, lost in thought, stared at his worksheet. Why do they call it a "pair" of pants if there's only one? He shook his head slightly, focusing back on the math problem.

Diana, meanwhile, furrowed her brow as she worked through a difficult equation. Is it normal to feel this nervous about a simple math problem? She sighed softly, pushing through her anxiety.

Diana accidentally dropped her pen. "Oops," she muttered, starting to bend down, but Daniel had already picked it up and handed it to her.

"Thanks," she whispered, taking the pen from him. She glanced at her worksheet, then back at Daniel. "Can you check my answers? I just want to make sure I got them right."

Daniel nodded and moved closer, his eyes scanning her work. "All seems good to me," he said after a moment, his voice low and reassuring.

Diana smiled, a small gesture of appreciation, and nudged his paper. "Now let me check yours."

Before Daniel could respond, Ava's voice cut through the air, louder than necessary. "You know what? I've decided I'm going to help."

Ben's face lit up. "Great! You can do question number four, Ava."

Ava scoffed but picked up a pen. She focused on the problem, her previous disinterest melting away as she quickly worked through it. She completed the question with a satisfied look and glanced at Daniel. "Um, Daniel, can you check my answer?"

Daniel looked up, surprised. "Okay," he said, taking her paper. As he reviewed her work, Ava shot a smirk at Diana, who blinked in confusion.

"There's a small mistake here," Daniel said, pointing to a part of Ava's work. Her smirk faded, and she frowned, her brow furrowing.

Diana peeked over and offered, "I can help you fix it if you want."

Ava's eyes narrowed, her jaw tightening slightly. "No, thanks. I can handle it."

Throughout the lesson, Ava asked Daniel a lot of questions. Initially, she had been sitting at the far side of the table, but by the end, she was right next to him, her attention focused entirely on their work.

The bell rang, signaling the end of the period. The teacher walked around to collect the worksheets. "Great job today, everyone. You can leave now," he announced.

Ava quickly gathered her things and headed back to her friends, her confident exterior firmly back in place. Daniel and Diana packed their bags more slowly.

As they walked out of the classroom together, Ben joined them, still bubbling with excitement. "That was fun, wasn't it? I think we did a great job!"

Daniel nodded. "Yeah, thanks, Ben."

Ben smiled and waved, then walked away alone into the crowd. Daniel and Diana continued on, ready for the next part of their day, unaware of the dynamics that had quietly shifted around them.
