Chapter 29: Fake Goods
When it came time to cut the cake, Anna, surrounded by everyone, walked onto the stage with an elegant smile. She wore a dazzling dress encrusted with diamonds, each one sparkling under the lights as if announcing her status and favor. Standing in the center of the stage, she deliberately invited Kit to join her in cutting the cake.
"Sister, come up and cut the cake with me," Anna said sweetly, but her voice carried a hint of forcefulness, and a sly glint flashed in her eyes.
Kit looked at her coldly, already guessing her intention. Taking a deep breath, she maintained her calm and confidence, walking up to the stage step by step. Each step was firm and graceful, knowing she wouldn't be easily defeated like in her previous life.
Anna watched as Kit approached, her heart filled with anticipation and excitement for the show that was about to unfold. However, when Kit stood perfectly beside her, her excitement was replaced by unease and confusion. Why? Why didn't the dress tear? She couldn't understand. She had personally tampered with the dress to ensure it would fall apart.
Kit stood beside Anna, looking at her coldly with eyes full of insight and mockery. She knew exactly why Anna was frantic. After receiving the dress, Kit had carefully inspected it. Though it appeared flawless, the seams were subtly cut. If one stood still, it would be fine, but with movement, the seams would gradually split, eventually falling apart. In her previous life, trusting Anna and delighted with the gift, she had worn the dress without any defense, ultimately embarrassing herself in front of everyone.
Anna's heart was filled with resentment and anxiety; her plan had failed. She glanced at the cake on the stage and had an idea. The large cake blocked the view from the audience, hiding her and Kit's actions. She picked up the cake knife and smiled at Kit, seemingly happy.
"Come, sister, let's cut the cake together." Anna said, but her hand exerted force on the knife, ready to cause chaos.
The next moment, everyone saw the cake suddenly topple over, with Anna falling onto it. "Ah!" she screamed, drawing everyone's attention. The guests below only then realized what had happened, seeing Anna in a mess with cream and cake crumbs all over her.
With tears in her eyes, Anna looked at Kit standing in the middle of the stage and accused, "Sister, why did you push me?"
"Ah, Anna, are you okay? Are you hurt?" Georgia immediately rushed onto the stage, helping Anna to sit up.
"I'm fine, it's just that the dress is ruined…" Anna pretended to be strong, but her tone was filled with grievance.
Georgia then noticed Anna's dress covered in cream. Such high-end custom dresses couldn't be cleaned once stained, meaning the five-million-dollar dress was completely ruined. She gasped and angrily accused Kit, "How could you do this? This dress costs millions! You have to compensate!"
Standing in the middle of the stage, Kit coldly said, "It's fake." Her voice was calm and firm, unaffected by the surroundings.
Someone from the crowd immediately retorted, "You country bumpkin, if you can't afford it, don't call it fake!"
Georgia also angrily said, "Exactly! Are you jealous of Anna's beautiful dress and deliberately ruined it?"
Anna pretended to be considerate, saying, "No, sister didn't mean it. It's just a pity for such a beautiful dress." Although she felt heartbroken for the dress, thinking about Kit's disgrace made her feel it was worth it.
Facing everyone's accusations, Kit calmly said, "The inside seam of the dress's hem should have a 'Y' mark. That's Y's habit."
Georgia defiantly said, "Let's check it out, to convince you thoroughly." She lifted Anna's dress to look for the mark but found nothing. She was stunned.
The guests held their breath, waiting for Georgia's response. Anna, seeing Georgia's hesitant expression, began to panic, asking calmly, "Georgia, what's wrong? Is there a mark?"
Under pressure, Georgia said, "There is, there is a 'Y' mark!"
"Really? Then take a picture to show everyone." Kit said coldly.
Georgia didn't move, and Anna quickly said, "I'll do it." But Georgia grabbed her hand and shook her head.
Anna, seeing her expression, seemed to understand something, her heart turning cold. She gritted her teeth and said, "Since Georgia saw it, it must be there!"
"Yes!" The guests echoed.
Kit, no longer indulging them, calmly lifted Anna's dress, showing everyone the inside seam, which indeed had no mark.
"There's no mark!"
"It's actually fake!"
"Anna really wore a fake!"
The guests started discussing, and in this circle, wearing a fake was a great shame. You could choose not to wear branded clothes, but you couldn't wear fakes pretending to be real.
Anna felt all eyes and discussions focused on her, her heart filled with panic and anger. Her face turned pale, hands clutching her dress, voice trembling, "It's real! The seller said it's real!"
But her voice was so weak amid the noise that no one paid attention. Anna's eyes filled with grievance and anger, her body trembling as if on the verge of collapse.
She ran off the stage crying, tears streaming down her face, the dress that once brought her pride now her greatest shame. She fled back to her room, and after closing the door, she couldn't suppress her inner pain and cried out loud.
What was supposed to be her glorious birthday celebration ended awkwardly. The guests continued to discuss, and some cast disdainful looks. The atmosphere in the Zhu family mansion became tense and awkward.
