In a secluded area, there is a Japanese House surrounded by lush greenery and towering trees. Its traditional design is a stunning blend of simplicity and elegance, with clean lines and graceful curves that evoke a sense of harmony with nature.
Inside the house, a towering figure with a muscular build caught one's attention. He had spiky silver hair that framed his sharp-featured face, and piercing dark-colored eyes that were often described as intense, adding to his intimidating aura. He wore a distinct outfit, comprising of a dark blue long-sleeved shirt, an armor jacket covering his shoulders, and matching blue pants. A short katana hung at his back, resembling an assassin's dagger. This was none other than Hatake Sakumo, famously known as the White Fang of Konoha.
A young boy with silver hair and a mask approached him, it was Hatake Kakashi, his son.
"Oto-san, are you going somewhere?" Kakashi asked.
Sakumo replied, "Yes, Lord Third has summoned me for a mission, and it seems like I will be gone for a while."
After a pause he further added,"Take care, Kakashi."
The boy simply nodded his head in response.
Sakumo rushed to the Hokage's office and quickly arrived. As he entered, he noticed that there were three other shinobi present besides himself.
Among them were Uchiha Kanami, a fellow Chunin from his younger days and a trusted friend. Kagami had risen through the ranks and was now a highly skilled Jonin of Konoha.
Shibi Aburame was another familiar face, although they had only worked together on a few missions. Aburame was also a Jonin, known for his expertise in insect-based techniques.
The third person present was Shinku Yuhi, a member of the Kurama clan and a formidable Jonin in his own right.
Sakumo realized that the mission at hand was not going to be an easy feat, considering that four highly-skilled Jonin-level shinobis had been called upon to carry it out.
Standing near the Hokage's desk were two individuals - Lord Third and Shimura Danzo.
Hiruzen handed the mission scroll to Sakumo and said, "Here, take a look at this. This is your mission scroll."
Sakumo's eyes widened as he opened the scroll and read through its contents.
"Why are we doing this now? The Second Shinobi War has just ended. If this fails, then...," the hesitant voice of Sakumo trailed off.
Danzo spoke in a calm but firm voice, "This is a precautionary measure. We need an absolute defensive plan to protect Konoha. The enemy is growing stronger, and the question is not whether it will attack us..."
"But when it will attack. We need to be prepared for that day."
Hiruzen gestured towards the next room and said, "You can discuss the mission with your teammates in there. You have 24 hours to decide whether to accept this mission or not."
Danzo added, "Sakumo, I hope you will consider the future of the village when making your decision."
Sakumo nodded his head.
As Danzo watched Sakumo's back while leaving the room, his eyes gleamed.
In the next room,
Kanami looked at Sakumo curiously and asked, "So, what's the mission?"
Sakumo replied, "Our mission is to infiltrate Kumogakure's Anbu HQ and gather information on every Kumo ANBU member"
Shibi raised a valid concern, "But isn't the Kumo's Anbu headquarters located in the Raikage's building? If we infiltrate that, wouldn't it be considered a declaration of war?"
"Yes," replied Sakumo, "that's a possibility. However, if one or two of us get caught, the village can disown us and consider us missing-nin. And That's also one of the conditions for this mission."
A look of horror spread across everyone's face. They realized that failure was not an option. If they failed, they would be killed or even worse, it could lead to another war.
Kanami asked with a sense of bewilderment, "Why now of all times? A war has just ended, and people are finally happy. Why should we be looking to start another one?"
Sakumo held the mission scroll tightly in his hand as he turned to face his teammates. "How much do you guys really know about the Second Shinobi War?" he asked with a serious tone.
Shinku said, "I know that it was started by Sunagakure, and Iwagakure and Amegakure joined in. They both wanted a part of the Land of Fire territory, which led to the start of the Second Shinobi War."
Sakumo took a deep breath and began to speak, his voice steady and serious., "Yes, but that's only the tip of the ice burg. I will tell you what I know."
The room remained silent, each person absorbed in their own thoughts.
Sakumo began his explanation," Sunagakure was facing a severe drought at the time, and they were in desperate need of a more plentiful supply of water. In their quest to find it, they decided to wage a war against the Land of Rivers, which is known for its fertile land."
"However, the Land of Rivers had formed an alliance with the Land of Fire after the First Shinobi War. As a result, Konoha intervened to prevent the invasion of the Land of Rivers by Sunagakure."
Shibi said calmly, "But a betrayal happened."
Sakumo nodded his head and said, "Yes, for the first time in history, the Land of fire was betrayed by its allies. Land of Grass-Kusagakure and Land of Rivers formed an alliance. It is also estimated that Land of Rain, Amegakure might also be involved."
"At first, when the forces of Konoha and Suna clashed, the skirmish was brief and Suna eventually retreated. However, while Konoha was preoccupied, their supposed ally struck them from behind, seizing a portion of the Land of Fire's territory."
In a composed tone, Shibi replied, "Fortunately, we were able to swiftly regain control of that territory. At the time of the conflict, I was stationed near Kusagakure."
Sakumo nodded in agreement. "That skirmish provided Sungakure with a chance to gather their strength and launch an independent assault on the Land of Fire. Additionally, Amegakure lent its support to Sunagakure's cause. Meanwhile, Iwagakure engaged in occasional skirmishes, but their involvement was limited."
"The Battle was a brutal affair, with countless lives lost on all sides. While Konoha clashed with Sunagakure and Amegakure, Kumo and Kiri took advantage of the chaos to launch a surprise attack on Uzioshigakure, Konoha's most trusted ally, and decimated it." Sakumo said.
"After the battle between the legendary Sannin and Hanzo, Amegakure declared its neutrality. Konoha eventually won the clash against Sunagakure. A cease-fire agreement was signed between Suna and Konoha because of that Iwagakure also withdrew its troops." Sakumo further added.
"But," Shibi interjected, "how does any of this concern Kumogakure?"
"I am not underestimating Suna, however, the battle between Konoha and Suna should have ended much earlier, but it didn't," said Sakumo. "There have been reports from ANBU that Kumo has been providing Suna with military intelligence and supplies just to prolong the battle so that they can get a chance to destroy Uzushiohigakure. They were also said to be affiliated with Amegakure and Kusagakure and providing them intel too."
"Uzioshigakure is a strategically important point for Konoha. With Uzioshigakure, it is impossible to invade the Land of Fire through a naval invasion without being noticed. But with it destroyed, both Kiri and Kumo can invade the territory of the Land of Fire through the sea," said Sakumo.
"So many coincidences occurred in Kumo's favor during the war. But were they truly coincidental? " Sakumo remarked.
The room fell silent, and everyone's face turned serious.
