The brief joy he felt was gone in an instant, and now Gabriel could only bide his time until she responded.
Eveline wanted to distract him, so she just allowed herself to listen to him. Now that she had blurted out those words, though, all he could do was keep asking her to explain why she was there.
Eveline swallowed at Gabriel's gloomy gaze and forced an uncomfortable smile.
"Hehe, when did I say that?" Eveline mentioned glancing away from his eyes.
She could not bring herself to look foolish in front of Gabriel, even though she knew she was busted.
"Eve, you heard it correctly. Now stop acting and tell me who you were waiting for." Now that she had actually irritated him with her pretense, Gabriel was truly serious again.
The Eveline he knew had always been so understanding of him, but this one would trick him without thinking about how other people would feel when they realized it was all a show.
