Lucas lay in his crib, staring up at the unfamiliar ceiling. He still couldn't believe it—he had been reborn, not just into another world but into the world of The Beginning of the End, his favorite novel. The world where he had once escaped into for solace, where kingdoms and empires clashed, where heroes rose from the ashes of despair. But now, this world wasn't a mere escape; it was his reality. The cold truth settled in, tightening in his chest.
In this world, there had never been a character named Lucas Nightshade. Yet, here he was, not just reborn but as the twin brother of the unconquerable heroine, Emily Nightshade, the future legend. And he, Lucas, had somehow been given a potential rank of +SSS, something that didn't exist in the novel. The highest rank mentioned had been +SS, a level that even the greatest heroes aspired to, but only the protagonist, Ronan Ashford, had the rare -SSS rank. And he had earned his power through incredible struggle and sacrifice.
For Lucas, that struggle wasn't something distant. He had already lived through hardship, taking care of his sick mother and little sister, Elara, in his previous life. He could still see their faces vividly—the gentle smile of his mother, even in her final days, and the bright, innocent eyes of Elara, who depended on him for everything. The pain of losing them, of being forced to leave them behind in that cruel world, hit him like a punch to the gut.
Tears pricked his eyes as he thought of them. His heart ached in a way that no amount of logic could soothe. How could he be expected to move on, to live in this new world, when he didn't even know what had happened to them? Were they okay? Did they know he was gone? His chest tightened as guilt swirled inside him.
"I swear… I'll find a way back to you," Lucas whispered in his thoughts, though his tiny lips couldn't yet form the words. The idea had started as a wild hope, but now it was growing stronger with every passing minute. He had all elements at his disposal—something only a handful of beings in existence could claim. This meant he had control over space and time, two of the most powerful and elusive forces. If there was even the slightest chance of using those elements to break the boundaries between worlds, he had to try. He would defy fate, defy logic, and find a way to return to his own planet. He would bring his mother and sister to this world, where he could protect them, where they wouldn't have to suffer anymore.
His thoughts drifted back to the present. His sister, Emily, lay beside him, a mere ten days old like himself. She was the future unconquerable heroine, a character so vital to the novel's plot that the entire world would one day look to her for salvation. Yet here she was, sucking her thumb, her tiny fists occasionally clenching as she shifted in her sleep. It was hard to reconcile this fragile infant with the legendary figure she would become. Lucas watched her, feeling a mix of protectiveness and confusion. Was it really possible that this small, helpless baby would one day rise to become one of the strongest beings in the world?
As he watched Emily, another realization hit him—she, too, had an extraordinary potential, though not quite as high as his. And yet, in the story, she was the one who was supposed to lead humanity against the demons. Her journey, her growth, was supposed to be central to the world's survival. But Lucas now stood in uncharted territory. His presence, his abilities, changed everything. Would he overshadow Emily's role? Would he change the fate of the world simply by existing?
These questions gnawed at him, but he didn't have any answers yet. All he knew was that the world was facing an even greater threat than anyone could imagine. The novel had only hinted at the true danger—the ten Demon Kings, each of whom was a formidable foe, ranked +SSS and commanding armies of generals at +SS and -SSS ranks. The protagonist, Ronan, had faced these impossible odds and somehow emerged victorious. But Lucas knew something the rest of the world didn't: the true ruler of the demons wasn't one of the Demon Kings.
The real threat was the Demon God, a being so powerful that his rank was unknown, even in the novel. The ten Demon Kings served him, and their power, terrifying as it was, paled in comparison to his. But the world remained ignorant of his existence, and that ignorance was dangerous. It would take more than the efforts of the protagonist to save the world from the horrors to come.
Lucas sighed inwardly, his tiny body incapable of expressing the full weight of his frustration. He had been given knowledge of the future, but in this infant body, he was powerless to act on it. His mana and aura were both locked at -F, the lowest possible rank. Even his physical stats were equally abysmal. In this state, he was no better than any other newborn, despite his extraordinary potential.
The thought made him uneasy. He needed time to grow, to unlock his powers, but time wasn't on his side. The novel's plot was already set in motion. Events were unfolding that would soon lead to the destruction of countless lives. The protagonist, Ronan, would lose his parents within the next few years, and that tragedy would set him on his path to becoming a hero. But until then, the world would remain vulnerable, its people unaware of the looming catastrophe.
Lucas shifted his gaze back to the ceiling, his mind racing. In the novel, Ronan had barely survived the attack that killed his parents. Only the intervention of the principal of Nova Academy of Heroes, the best academy on the continent, had saved him and his sister. That event had shaped Ronan's destiny, but Lucas now wondered if he could change that. Could he intervene in time? Could he prevent the deaths of Ronan's parents and alter the course of the story? Or would his interference only make things worse?
His thoughts were interrupted by a soft whimper from Emily. She stirred in her sleep, her tiny hands reaching out as if searching for something. Lucas felt a pang of affection for her. She was his sister now, and he would protect her, no matter what. But his mind couldn't help but wander back to his previous family. His mother, frail and sick in her hospital bed. His sister, Elara, with her bright smile and boundless energy. They were still out there, in his old world, and he couldn't abandon them.
The memories of his mother's last days weighed heavily on his heart. He had watched her waste away, powerless to save her. He had left school, sacrificed everything, just to be by her side, to make sure she and Elara were taken care of. But in the end, it hadn't been enough. He had failed them. And now, he was in this new world, with new responsibilities, but the pain of his past lingered.
"I'll find a way," Lucas thought to himself, his resolve hardening. "I'll bring them here. I have to."
The idea seemed impossible, but Lucas wasn't about to give up. He had all elements at his disposal—fire, water, earth, air, shadow, light, thunder, space, time, and more. Space and time were the most powerful of these elements, capable of bending the very fabric of reality. If anyone could traverse the boundaries between worlds, it would be him.
It wouldn't be easy, and it might take years, even decades, but Lucas was determined. He couldn't let go of his old family, just as he couldn't abandon his new one. He would grow stronger, unlock his powers, and master the elements. And when the time was right, he would find a way to open the portal between worlds.
He glanced back at Emily, who had settled into a peaceful sleep once more. Lucas felt a surge of determination. This world was facing an unimaginable threat, and he had a role to play in its defense. But he wouldn't forget his mother and sister. No matter how long it took, he would find them.
His tiny fists clenched as he made a silent vow: he would become strong enough to protect both his new family and his old one. He wouldn't let anyone take them away from him again.
