"Ah— in this case, come in and have a seat."
The woman frantically opened the door and walked into the hall.
It seemed as though she had never met a stranger before.
Elrond walked in and felt a little awkward to see the messy living room.
There wasn't any place to sit at all.
"Go on, have a seat anywhere."
Saying that the woman found a piece of iron and sat on it.
It seemed that she was used to being casual. But why wasn't her clothes dirty?
Elrond looked at her and she started to feel uneasy. She didn't dare to look at him in the eyes. Instead, she looked upwards and asked, "What can you fix?"
"I can fix televisions, tape recorders, and washing machines."
She got excited and asked, "Can you fix a motorcycle?"
"Should be able to," said Elrond.
Of course he could. It didn't even take him half an hour to assemble a motorcycle from the parts of an old car.
But it was better to be humble and leave a good impression right now.
A slightly disappointed look could be seen in the woman's eyes.
Humans had experienced many global wars.
They had even utilized nuclear weapons.
Not only did the technological civilization regress, it actually improved.
Spaceships were now carrying passengers and they flew into space easily.
It was not a rare sight to see advanced transportation modes on the streets.
Human civilization had completely eliminated the damage caused by the earthquake.
The buildings now were constructed from steel, and it was made from a super corrosion-resistant material.
The material applied to the steel structure was made out of mixed materials, which were fire-resistant and waterproof.
Even if there was a 100-magnitude earthquake, a tall building would not collapse.
Passenger cars were equipped with mechanical pressure-reducing devices. If two cars were to collide, the impact from the crash would be reduced.
A simple traffic accident rarely killed anyone.
The SUV that Elrond bought from the Nomad tribe was an antique.
The cars in the New World were like armored vehicles, which could prevent ordinary bullets from penetrating them. Although the materials were metal, it was lighter than plastic.
Equipment from the Old World was basically collectibles.
The motorcycles in this world were all powered by magnetic levitation which floated 1.5 feet above the ground.
The motorcycles from the Old World were ordinary two-wheelers.
Those motorcycles were occasionally seen on the streets. However, it would always attract envious gazes.
Those types of motorcycles were considered antiques, a type of treasure.
The store wasn't very large, but there were many old radios, cars, motorcycles, and a lot of other things.
These machines were very old.
But all these things were treasures. These were collectibles for the rich people.
So when Elrond heard this, he gave a vague reply. "Should be able to."
But this left Mary a little dissatisfied.
"Can you try to repair it?" Mary probed. She felt that Elrond might not know how to repair motorcycles after all.
"Wait a minute."
Just as Elrond was about to agree, two old men walked through the door.
These two men were the ones who were playing Gobang earlier.
One was tall and thin, while the other was short with a Mediterranean hairstyle.
The Mediterranean hairstyle old man said, "You want to be an apprentice?"
Elrond gave a friendly smile.
He recognized this old man. In his previous life, this old man was a mechanical expert in the game.
He was the key figure in this hidden mission, Zate.
It was the appearance of the tall and thin old man that surprised Elrond.
This man was an important figure in Wisdernia.
Elrond did not expect to find him playing Gobang with a Master Mechanic right here.
He wondered if this man had been waiting here for him.
This was something totally out of his expectations.
Zate said, "Mary, how can you let a person with an unknown background become an apprentice here?
"To become an apprentice, one must undergo some basic assessment."
"Assessment?" Mary was a little stunned and she asked, "What assessment?"
Zate walked to the Godric and lifted his sleeve.
Elon saw a prosthetic limb.
Disregarding Godric's objection, Zate removed his prosthetic limb.
Godric was not angry. Instead, he looked at Elrond vivaciously.
It seemed as though he wanted to see through Elrond's thoughts.
After removing the prosthetic limb, he only had half an arm left.
His hand could move normally because that half part of his arm moved his forearm.
There were obvious burns on it. At a glance, it was obvious that those were not ordinary burns.
Elrond could tell that those injuries were sustained during the war.
"Make him a prosthetic limb, one that he can pick up peanuts with chopsticks," said Zate.
Mary widened her eyes and looked at him as though she was looking at a lunatic. "Grandpa Zate, how is that possible? Even you can't make this kind of prosthetic limb. But if he can do it, how much time are you intending to give him?"
She was extremely puzzled. Why was this usually calm old man making things difficult for a person who wanted to be an apprentice?
Elrond didn't look like a bad guy and he's so good-looking.
There was one type of standard for women to judge if a man was a good guy or a bad guy. Handsome men were good guys while ugly men were bad guys.
This was a kind of intuitive judgment.
"Kid, don't say that I didn't give you a chance. If you can't do it, then get lost immediately," said Zate.
Mary wanted to help him plead for leniency.
But Elrond suddenly said, "If I can do it, will you let me stay?"
"If you make a piece of wood, do I need to keep you?" Zate showed a sarcastic smirk and said, "You only pass when the prosthetic limb picks up peanuts with chopsticks.
"And the most important thing is I will not give you that much time. You need to complete everything, from assembly to production within three hours. If you can't do it, then get lost immediately," said Zate.
"Grandpa, how is this possible? You can't do it either, right?"
"Mary, keep your mouth shut. These are the rules for my assessment. If he can't do it, then he doesn't even have the qualifications to be an apprentice."
Elrond knew that from the first step he took, it would be difficult to stay.
But this Zate insisted for him to make a prosthetic limb. What kind of situation was this?
If it was other difficult mechanical knowledge, he might not be able to achieve it because of the limited information that was available in the experimental base.
To increase his learning efficiency, he was still wearing his mecha.
He had to start understanding from the six mechanical arms on his back.
But since Zate had already asked him to make the prosthetic limb, then he should just follow his instructions.
"Kid, don't say that I'm making things difficult for you. If you need any material that is in my shop, go ahead and take it. Three hours later, I want to see a brand new arm on him.
"A prosthetic limb that can pick up peanuts using chopsticks."
Elrond smiled and said, "Sure, I'll give it a try."
Mary had an anxious look on her face. He was so handsome, and she had not warmed up to him yet. But he was about to be chased away.
He was even more handsome than a model.
Elrond was already looking around for materials. He walked towards a piece of metal and said, "Eh, this metal—"
