"I've missed you, darling," Chloe said, her voice soft and sweet as she hugged Nate's arm. They walked through the grand corridors of the castle, their footsteps echoing off the polished marble floors.
Nate glanced down at the princess, a mixture of emotions swirling within him. Of all his wives, Chloe was the one he felt most distant from. Despite their physical intimacy, he knew little about her, their encounters limited to a handful of meetings. Had he been given a choice, he likely wouldn't have agreed to the engagement in the first place.
It was odd how quickly things had changed. When they first met, he had merely saved her life, and she'd seemed neither impressed nor interested. Yet now, here she was, genuinely concerned and affectionate.
One moment she barely knows me, and the next, she's throwing herself at me, Nate mused, the irony not lost on him.
