One Desolate Tower and One Man Spirit Hybrid

Flash Back Reinhard POV:

Reinhard was once again staring at the setting sun

Reinhard was watching yet another day pass, to never be seen again

Another day would vanish as his close and dear friend Subaru seemed to be getting in a worse and worse situation as time passed

Reinhard missed the days when he received positive information about Subaru almost remaining ignorant to the reality that would confront him.

The first good bit of news Reinhard received was Subaru's potential location.

Upon hearing this news Reinhard was tempted for just a second to go quickly investigate himself, after all, it would only take him less than a minute to travel to Bannan and back, however he scrapped that idea upon learning that Julius would be dispatched to retrieve Subaru or at least investigate the location of Natsuki Subaru.

In truth, Reinhard felt a bit uneasy when he heard that Julius would be sent to potentially retrieve his friend. Julius had been one of the main torturers for Subaru, and Reinhard held a strong hunch that if the two met face to face, Subaru would freak out and try to escape in fear. Of course, Reinhard would not blame Subaru for doing so.

Nevertheless, Reinhard could not bring himself to voice his concerns with anyone, he just smiled and waved essentially doing nothing as he watched Julius leave.

Reinhard had seriously considered running up to Julius' carriage and voicing his concerns, but Reinhard through his divine protection of empathy could feel the immense amount of emotional distress that began to emit in the carriage. Julius may have appeared stoic and calm on the outside but was hurting so much inside.

Reinhard decided that Julius retrieving Subaru would be the best way to help redeem himself after all his sins.

Now all Reinhard had to do was wait for an update...

If he returns empty-handed, then he would pray that Subaru was safe wherever he was, if Julius returned with Subaru, Reinhard would try to comfort his friend to the best of his ability.

And only a few days later Julius returned

Reinhard while not being able to greet Julius upon his initial return heard of his situation from other knights and by simply using his super hearing to 'investigate' by himself (He was snooping out of curiosity but would never admit to that)

Reinhard was very surprised to hear that two people he considered friends had broken out into a heated battle upon reuniting

He was even more surprised when he heard who the victor was

In contrast to what happened when those two first battled in that arena, Subaru had won leaving Julius badly beaten.

This outcome left Reinhard baffled since Julius was an experienced knight, with many spirits and years of intense training to master his fighting style. Subaru's victory was nothing short of a miracle in Reinhards eyes

A short amount of time after Julius's return, Reinhard found himself in a meeting with four of the five royal camps who wanted to further discuss a plan to retrieve his friend.

Reinhard truly wanted to accompany the royal candidates on this new vital mission.

However, he understood that trying to get permission for him to go would be nothing but a waste of time since they would either deny his request or would take too long to respond.

So, he begrudgingly stayed behind with Felt as three royal camps ventured forth to retrieve Natsuki Subaru.

Reinhard felt so useless as he watched the united camps leave to retrieve a person, he should have already saved many times over

Reinhard heard the commotion at his party

Reinhard could have interrogated Subaru

Reinhard could have saved Subaru so much pain

But because of his sloth, he did nothing

And once again the world's strongest man... did nothing

And because of that, another person close to him got hurt

Reinhard knew deep down knew that the reason the people around him got hurt was that he was nothing but a weapon and a monster.

Reinard was trying to teach Felt another history lesson

To his dismay, the only historical thing she wanted to learn about was the effects gluttony has had on the world.

This was a rather difficult task for many reasons. Firstly, Reinhard didn't want to discuss gluttony and there were very few amounts on gluttonies historical appearances.

So, he tried to steer Felt's attention towards the past heroisms committed by the divine dragon.

However, his efforts were wasted as Felt always steered the topic back to either gluttony or his friend Subaru.

This cycle of trying to teach Felt and getting side-tracked repeated itself over and over until.

Reinhard's communication mirror Metia alerted Reinhard that someone was trying to speak to him.

Initially, Reinhard thought it was a message of either the success of the royal camp with retrieving Subaru or maybe a call for Felt to send a few soldiers as support or backup.

However, the topic discussed that day was one that almost sent shivers down Reinhard's spine.

It was a warning about Subaru's new powers and his apparent allegiance to Satella.

This of course greatly upset the saint, as a worst-case scenario seemed to be unfolding, one he could have and should have prevented.

What upset him more would be the possible reactions Felt would have upon learning that her Big Bro had fallen into unredeemable territories. Territories are usually reserved for... witch cultists.

Reinhard could remember the interaction and reaction that he and Felt shared that day

"My lady."

Reinhard said with a tired and sad smile

Felt noticed this and replied

"Who was it? Some stuck-up noble trying to blackmail me. If so, will it get me away from this stupid election?"

Reinhard's expression became noticeably nervous

"I-it was from Anastasia-sama."

Felt looked up with excitement in her eyes

"Was she talking about Big Bro?"

"Yes."

Reinhard answered honestly

"...What was it about?"

Reinhard decided to use his divine protection of perfect speech to deliver this message

"Felt-sama, Subaru has been found to have new connections with the Witch. And now possesses dangerous amounts of power."

"Whoa, whoa, whoa! Where did this come from?"

Felt asked while waving her hands in shock

"My lady, the origins of Subaru's new powers were not reported, meaning they may be of unknown origin for the time being."

"Stop talking like a doll!"

Felt noticed that Reinhard was talking with a lack of emotion

"I'm sorry my lady."

"..."

Felt raised an eyebrow

"My lady... do you believe Subaru to be... redeemable... saveable?"

"Dunno, honestly big bro has always been a bit of an enigma."

Reinhard proudly perked up for a second as his lady used a word, he taught her.

"But Big Bro despite everything, always seems to have his heart in the right place... at least he used to. I'm not so sure now."

"Felt-sama what should we do?"

Felt shrugged

"Dunno, if he truly loves the witch then I have no ideas on what to do... Rein, what do you think?"

Felt asked pointing at the red-haired saint

Reinhard himself was not sure of what he wanted to do.

No that's wrong he knew what he wanted to do, but would it be the right thing to do?

He desired to save Subaru, but Subaru was now a potential threat to the kingdom. As the kingdom's sword, it was his responsibility to keep the kingdom and his lady safe from anything that might threaten it.

Even his friends

Reinhard hated the idea of having to kill his friends

Reinhard would check with his lady before acting since she would undoubtedly know the action to take.

"My lady, might I request something selfish?"

Felt looked at Reinhard with interest

"You don't usually ask for anything... I wonder what you would consider selfish... I am all ears."

Reinhard took a deep breath to prepare himself for his ladies' response

"My lady, I do not wish to engage in a fight with Subaru, would it be possible for us to detain him and trail him by the court? A-as to not potentially kill an innocent man."

Felt looked at Reinhard with her mouth slightly agape, however, it turned into a soft smile

"Rein, I don't want you and Big Bro to fight... try to bring him back to us. But don't fight him if unneeded. And if you do fight only knock some sense into him. And if he still won't listen, try harder."

Reinhard smiled

"Yes, my lady."

Flashback end:

"Reinhard I cannot accept this offer... I am sorry."

Reinhard could feel a tinge of sadness pass through him as his friend refused his offer

However, this would not deter the saint

"Subaru, I insist that a peaceful option such as this would be the best scenario."

Subaru looked away from Reinhard

"What?! Me taking a trail in a court system rigged against me would be the best scenario... also you do realise that this would end badly for you as well."

Subaru said while pointing a finger at Reinhard

Reinhard looked at Subaru with a saddened expression

"How so?"

Reinhard asked wanting to know what Subaru meant by a trail would end badly for him

"Well, if you, not even Felt, just you sided with me, then Felt's chances of winning the throne would be jeopardized."

Reinhard felt a little hope return realising that his friend only declined with his mistress's best interest in mind

"I assure you that with my support you will be giving a fair trial, and once we clear your name lady Felt's candidacy will remain unharmed."

Reinhard said in hopes of changing his friend's mind

Subaru even then shook his head

"Reinhard... even if you had some divine protection of perfect lawyer, and you cleared my name that wouldn't change the fact that some people would still negatively view you and Felt, for helping me. Not to mention that the so-called wise men or sage council would probably rig a trail in a way that either makes me lose regardless or creates a new law to keep me trapped within their borders under supervision."

Reinhard grimaced at the thought of another person being forced into the same situation he was stuck in.

"And worst-case scenario if I lose the case... well I would face either imprisonment... or execution... probably by your hands."

Reinhard's hope of returning Subaru had now dwindled away

The two were in a temporary stalemate

Reinhard knew that if this continued, he would have to forcefully drag Subaru back... by orders of Lady Felt of course

"Rein"

Subaru called out

The red-haired man looked at Subaru and gave smile that hid his sorrow

"Yes?"

"Would it be possible for me to just not return to Lugunica?"

"...Well..."

Reinhard thought about this idea for a second

"Do you intend on bringing harm to the kingdom of Lugunica?"

"No."

Subaru was not lying

"... Well usually in conditions like this I would be forced to bring you back to Lugunica... but since I have not been directly ordered by the council to bring you back, only to stop the great spirit. And since you technically have not entered the borders of Lugunica... and since I see no threats to the kingdom... I could first take the Oni back for questioning and then return to bring you later. And you just so happened to go missing, well there was no way I could have prevented it."

Subaru stared at Reinhard's perfect blue eyes with his colour-changing ones for a few seconds in disbelief

Then he smiled a goofy smile

"Hehe, thanks Rein... see you later."

Subaru began to run around the border of Lugunica

"Remember if you're still in this area once I return, I will have to bring you back... and of course, Felt-sama would gladly house you until the whole situation is cleared up!"

Reinhard yelled at his friend who was already a fair distance away

As Subaru was running away, he gave Reinhard a thumbs up

Reinhard seeing Subaru run away suddenly felt an urge to ask him what he planned on doing because even if he wasn't directly a threat to the kingdom, he might do something that does affect the kingdom.

However, Reinhard decided to trust his friend, that he wouldn't do anything harmful

"At least the old Subaru is somewhat still in there."

Reinhard while not fully satisfied with this outcome was happy that he avoided a fight with his friend.

Reinhard looked back to the still unconscious Oni and the light orb that he knocked out of her.

"Now to deal with this."

Reinhard picked up the light orb with one hand seemly unaffected by its influence and the Oni with his other

Felix POV:

Failure

As Felix persisted in trying to wake his friend Julius up, he always got the same silent response.

Julius after extensive healing and the sacrament of the immortal king should have been awake now

However, Felix after exhausting himself trying to wake his friend up could only surrender to his fatigue leaving two royal candidates upset with him.

Anastasia was upset that he failed to wake her knight up

And Crusch was upset that her supposed healer knight couldn't even do that correctly

Felix couldn't help but feel like the most worthless thing in the world

He wished so dearly that fate-sama would suddenly switch his and Julius's positions

At least then he couldn't feel the crushing weight of his sins crawling on his back

Felix could only pray that when he arrives back at his master domain, she would be lenient on him

After all, everything he did was for her... surely a caring and forgiving woman such as Crusch would grant him pity.

Felix's mind began to work in overdrive

Maybe if he convinces her that Subaru was a cultist this whole time and that his actions were justified because of gluttony she would grant him leniency

Plus, Subaru did hurt him, if he used that as reasoning she would certainly allow him to keep his knight job.

Felix suddenly felt tears he didn't even know he had run down his cheek as the reality of his situation began to settle in.

He may have lost most if not all of his friends

He failed his one job as a healer

And worst of all, his one true reason for living, his job as Crusch's knight may be stripped away from him.

Felix could live without many things, but a life without Crusch was one he simply could not exist without.

Subaru POV:

Subaru was taking a long way around to reach the Great Tower

He was honestly excited to return

The last time he was there, he didn't have an opportunity to read many books

And this time without Shaula to guard the tower, all he had to worry about were the Ma beasts that would block his path

Subaru had considered requesting Meili's help since she still probably saw him as a father figure.

But he quickly decided against it as he would prefer to not drag her into his problems

And besides, those ma beasts would struggle to even hurt him.

He was the punching bag of that spirit... One after all.

"Heh, I wonder if I could add Oni's punching bag to my job resumé? No, no Tella-tan would certainly be against that... and the girls... especially Aqua heh heh."

Subaru would not lie

He greatly missed his spirit's company

They were like his family after all

"Maybe there's a book on speeding up the restoration of a spirit?"

Subaru pondered out loud to himself

30 minutes later

Subaru stood in front of a forest he knew would contain dangerous ma beasts

Of course, he knew that he had progressed to where the ma beasts would pose zero real threat to him

The thing that bothered him was that this forest led to Arlam village

Even if he would be perceived as some spirit monster by the villagers

Subaru wanted to visit the children to tell them he was ok

After all, it had been a long time since he had seen them

Would it hurt to take a small hour to deter?

Subaru promised himself to be quick

...

After slaying a few ma beasts with his bare hands thanks to his spirit-boosted strength Subaru had made it to the village.

Stepping foot inside Subaru couldn't help but feel nostalgic

This place had been a little peaceful place he could just hang out when life was good

"I wonder if they have remembered me yet?"

Subaru quietly said to himself

Subaru walked into the market area of the village

Subaru was curious why he was getting strange looks

If Subaru had a mirror, he would see that he was wearing what seemed to be a shirt with the sleeves burnt off, pants greatly torn, shirt torn, and hands covered in blood.

Subaru ignored the faces the villagers were making at him

Then the village elder Muraosa approached Subaru

"Excuse me young one, what business would an outsider as you have at our humble village?"

Subaru looked at the old man and smiled

"Oh, you don't remember me then... *cough cough* Hi my name is Subaru Natsuki"

Subaru did his signature pose

"I was away for a long time, but now return to say hello."

The elder stroked his beard

"Subaru Natsuki? I have not heard of such a name... by the divine dragon... Subaru Natsuki the man who saved our village's children from ma beasts!?"

Subaru blushed a little at the mention of one of his achievements

"I-it was nothing sir."

The village elder let out a laugh

"Hohoho, I can't believe I forgot someone like you, my age must be catching up with me. However, I must ask boy, I don't remember you having such... interesting eyes... or black veins... what happened to you?"

Subaru upon hearing this question decided to... not answer it

"Long story but that's not why I'm here."

"What reason have you come?"

"To say hello."

"Ah yes, I shall alert the children immediately, and to my knowledge young maiden Petra is currently in the village"

"Oh, great that saves me a little time."

Subaru gave the elder a thumbs up as he moved away to notify the children that Subaru returned

Subaru decided to find a place to sit and wait for the children to come to him

And soon enough one by one they came

First, it was Cain followed by Dine, Meina, Mild and Lucas. Petra was nowhere to be seen just yet.

Subaru happily reunited with these kids

And even to a nearly indestructible spirit like himself, the kids' energetic moods and snotty noses wore him down fast

"Ahh come one guy! Not my only good jacket!"

"Your jacket isn't that good mister."

"Yeah, it's all scratched and broken."

"Tch, nothing my sewing skills won't fix in due time."

"Sewing is a girly skill mister," said Lucas

"Wrong Sewing is a manly skill that only the most skilled in the blade of the needle can master. It's a skill that takes many years of practice." Subaru replied with pride

"Girly!"

"Why you little-."

"SUBARU-SAMA!"

Subaru was suddenly tackled with tremendous force by an orange-haired girl

"Oh, there you are, heya Petra, how have you been?"

"I'm sorry, I'm sorry."

Subaru gave Petra a head pat

"Aww it is ok; you did nothing wrong."

"I forgot you! I'm so sorry."

Petra for the past few months had this feeling that an irreplaceable part of her was missing

And when the village elder told her of Natsuki Subaru she couldn't help but shred tears, she finally had that part of her back

Felt couldn't help but feel melancholic at the idea that she forgot her hero and love interest

She swore to never forget him again

"Subaru-sama where have you been? It has been months."

Petra asks while soaking what remained of his jacket with tears

"(So, she does not know what happened to me. I guess I should give Roswaal some credit that he didn't traumatise another child. Petra will be better off without knowing) Heh well I have just been training and getting stronger. Look at my arms now."

Subaru pointed at his arm

While there was muscle, the fact that he had been tortured and starved for months limited the amount of body mass and muscle growth he could achieve in the time he had.

So, he just had a skinny but muscly version of his arm

"That's nothing mister, my dad has bigger muscles." Said Cain

"Well, I also trained my magic skills a bit... want to see?"

Of course, all the children unanimously agreed

While Subaru wanted to limit the amount of mana he used until his loli army returned, a couple of tiny spells would not hurt

"goa"

Subaru whispered as a tiny fireball shot out of his hand into the sky

The children were not impressed

"Is that all?"

"That was tiny.'

"I-I think that was amazing Subaru-sama."

Subaru sighed seeing that the kids were not happy with just a tiny magic ball

"What about some healing magic?"

Subaru asked the kids

"Sure, I scrapped my knee, can you heal it?" Asked Mild

Subaru put his hand over Mild's injury and began to heal it

It took about twenty seconds, but Subaru did indeed fix the wound

"Wow, that was amazing mister."

"Can you use that healing magic to fix your scary eyes?"

"*sigh* kids are always so mean... haven't you heard of respecting your elders?"

Everyone laughed

All in all, Subaru had a lovely time with the village kids

"Subaru-sama won't you return to the mansion, Frederica-sama and I would prepare a feast to honour you back."

Petra suggested trying to make her hero stay longer

Subaru got down on one knee to talk to Petra's face to face

"I am sorry, but I need to go complete my... mission. But I promise to visit you again eventually."

Petra shocks her head

"B-but Emilia-sama would be most pleased to return home to see you."

Subaru almost visibly cringed not out of disgust but for how naive Petra was, and how her worldview would crash and burn if she found out the truth.

"Petra please listen to me I promise to visit you and all the other kids in the future... I will even pinkie promise on it too."

Subaru held out his pinkie finger gesturing for her to do the same

"...Fine but you better keep your promise."

Petra shock pinkies with Subaru

Subaru stood back up

"Great then, see you later Petra."

Subaru gave Petra one more head pat before leaving

"S-see you soon Subaru-sama."

As Petra watched Subaru leave, she couldn't help but feel tinges of melancholy

As Subaru navigated his way through the forest, he couldn't help but smile at those interactions

"Even in this world children are the most innocent and evil things."

Subaru looked at his jacket

"I mean seriously how is it that something so young can snot on your property, laugh at you yet not understand that what they did was pure evil?"

Subaru tried wiping the snot off just to spread it

"*sigh* better use magic then, at least I can be a portable washing machine whenever I want to be."

Subaru wet his clothes with water magic

Then dried them with wind magic

"...Good enough"

Subaru continued to walk onwards

"I wonder what Tella-tan thinks of the children. Hopefully, she doesn't mind them."

Suddenly Subaru was jumped by a vicious ma beast

It began to gnaw on his leg

"...*Sigh* if I tried buying new clothes whenever my old ones got damaged, I would be a bigger debt slave than Otto."

Subaru kicked the dog away

"Yep, not a scratch on me... but my poor clothes... so this must be how those overpowered anime characters feel."

Subaru kept walking doing his best to avoid damaging his clothes further

Until he finally made it out of the forest

"All right... only a small stretch of land left to go and I'll make it to the dunes."

Subaru stretched a little bit before starting a slow jog

"Ok at this rate I'll make it to the magical border by... night-time.

And so, Subaru continued to jog until he made it to the magical border

"All right Finally made it"

Subaru stood on the last few meters of green before the land turns to sand

"I guess it's time to pick up where I left off from school and read"

Subaru began to walk forward

And forward

And forward until

"Yep... that spell that makes the tower a pain to reach is still very much active."

Subaru decided to check his options

"Let's see what I can do about this... I can ask Tella-tan, the greedy witch and if that fails, I could just keep running at it from different angles until I make it."

Subaru realised how dumb and time-consuming that last option would be

"I mean I could see if Anastasia still owns that map has... would probably have to steal it but it's not like she's going to need it anyways."

Subaru then began his ritual to meet Satella

He laid down and closed his eyes

That's right he was trying to sleep

"Huh... it's a bit difficult to just sleep under the direct sun."

Subaru looked around for some shade and saw none

"Ok... that's annoying"

Subaru aimed his hand at the ground

"Dona"

Subaru summoned a stone T-P around himself

"Ok, it's napping time."

Subaru arrived at the garden of shadows again

Satella was indeed waiting for him, but she seemed a little tired

"Welcome back my beloved"

"Hello Tella-tan"

Subaru walked up to the half-elf and embraced her in a hug

"Miss me?"

Subaru asked

"Always"

The two stood still for a while hugging

"My beloved you know the answer you seek is a little... too simple even by my standards."

Subaru smiled

"That means there should be no problem getting me across that magical barrier then."

"My beloved my solution is rather... boring but it will guarantee you a path through the dunes."

Subaru looked Satella in the eyes

"Good thing I'm not here for a fun time, I'm taking this quest very seriously."

Satella pouted

"Seriously enough to take a break at a village?"

"...Think of the children Tella-tan."

Satella shocked her head

"The only children I care about... are the ones we will have together"

Satella's face now had a tinge of red but was mostly confident.

"Come on Tella-tan, the children were friendly. Even you must admit that they just warm your heart."

"No!"

Satella crossed her arms and looked away from Subaru

"...Heh heh sure, anyways how do I traverse the dunes?"

Satella collected herself and cleared her throat

"Well, my beloved, while there are many possible ways for a Witch like myself to bypass such magic, I could just use a memory spell to help you see the events of you traversing the dunes for the first time."

"Yep, do that"

Satella held her hand up toward Subaru

"El Meios"

Subaru felt his memory improve ten-fold

Subaru for a second took great pride that he had almost completely undone the damage Julius and Felix dealt to him

"Now my beloved, it's time for you to return to the sage's tower."

"Thanks, Tella."

"Come back soon my beloved!"

Subaru woke up in the pitch dark

"Ahh good to see that my stone Tp is still standing strong."

Subaru moved the rocks back into the planet

"Ok then, let us see how powerful this temporary memory buff is."

Subaru looked at the barrier

"Ok let's see... entering shall be no problem however the ma beasts in the dunes were far more powerful compared to the dogs I previously slayed."

Subaru looked at his hands

"However, if I focus my mana on boosting my speed instead of combat then my mana usage should be minimalized. Which would be the preferred outcome."

Subaru looked around

"*sigh* talking to myself like a crazy person... better to not think about that I guess."

Subaru approached the magical barrier

He could see a massive sand storm not too far ahead

"Ok let's see"

Subaru walked a few meters to the right

"Right about... here."

Subaru put a scarf over his nose before walking forward

And as he expected, the tower was indeed starting to get closer and closer

Subaru honestly had to pat Tella-tan on the back for having such useful spells.

Well-being a witch hundreds of years old he half expected her to know hundreds of forgotten spells.

Subaru taking only a few steps into the dunes instantly felt the sandstorm attack his body

However, Subaru had prepared himself to protect his eyes and lungs

Putting a hand over his mouth covering his jacket to ensure that it stayed on blocking all the toxic sand.

Subaru decided to test out a small invention idea

"min-ya"

Subaru said putting a tiny amount of mana into the spell

But the crystal wasn't for attacking no

It was for wearing

Subaru summoning this crystal tried his hardest to shape the mana into... GLASSES

Putting on the glasses Subaru noted that his vision was now tinted purple

As to be expected with purple crystal lenses

Having got his breathing and vision problems fixed Subaru began to dash forwards following the correct path to the tower

Subaru cursed his luck as what seemed to be most of the ma beasts in the area were chasing him

"Dam... why must they always chase me!"

Subaru cursed beneath his makeshift mask which he was still using a hand to keep on

"It's not like I... ohhhh"

Subaru realised that visiting his Tella-tan so much would probably leave her sent on him... especially with all the close hugging they did

"I regret nothing." Subaru thought to himself

Subaru looked back to see that even more ma beasts had joined the chase

"Shoot, well at least I'm almost at the tower, I'll see if I can blast them away in a minimal number of spells after I arrive."

Even though the raging sand storm a mighty roar of a beast unlike the ma beasts could be heard

The roar was so mighty that even the sand storm stopped blowing, almost as if the environment itself was bowing down to this new presence.

Suddenly the top of the tower burst open revealing the last protector of the tower, someone who may be an even more difficult obstacle than Reinhard emerged.

"How... did I not remember... you?"

Subaru asked with actual fear in his voice

Even with the enchantment spell, his mind must have been too preoccupied with traversing the dunes and avoiding ma beasts.

"LEAVE TH'Y LAND AT ONCE!"

Boomed the voice of the Divine Dragon... Volcanica!

The enormous dragon covered in its shiny pale blue scales that gleamed like jewels and massive horns that grew from atop its head gave one simple order to Subaru Natsuki.

And then The Divine Dragon stared at Subaru with its overwhelming eyes

Subaru felt its immense pressure upon himself, he almost felt like he couldn't breathe in the dragon's presence.

"*cough* The this... isn't good."

Subaru noticed that despite him being covered in so much of the witch's miasma, all the ma beasts had turned away. Just this once they felt more fear than hunger. Something Subaru did not expect to see today.

The Divine Dragon looked down at Subaru and spoke in his mighty tone

"IN ACCORDANCE WITH MY AGREEMENT WITH THE TOWERS ADMINISTRATOR, I SHALL NOW ATTACK YOU!"

"nooo."

Subaru said almost in a hushed gasp

"AND AS PER MY AGREEMENT, I SHALL NOT HARM YOU!"

"...oh yeah"

Subaru remembered that Emilia had told the dragon to not harm anyone while defending the tower.

Subaru thinking he was safe decided to step forwards

Only for The Divine Dragon to stomp a foot down in front of Subaru knocking him away

"...IN ACCORDANCE WITH MY AGREEMENT WITH THE TOWERS ADMINISTRATOR, I SHALL NOW ATTACK YOU!"

The dragon said again

"Hay, you just tried to hurt me!"

Subaru yelled

The Dragon of course ignored the small boy yelling at him only staring at him blankly

"BUT AS PER MY AGREEMENT, I SHALL NOT HARM YOU!"

The dragon said again

Subaru looked at the dragon with a slightly more irritated expression.

"... Sorry girls, I may need to use a bit of yang magic to get past this."

Subarus's body began to glow slightly as he began to enchant his body with yang magic.

"Let's see if it is enough."

Subaru dashed forwards but to his surprise, the dragon quickly swatted him away

Subaru wasn't sure why, but it felt like the dragon casually swatted him intending to kill him upon impact

"HAY YOU SAID YOU WOULD HURT ME!"

Subaru yelled annoyed that the dragon whose mind wasn't all there seemed to be ignoring the demands Emilia gave him

Little did Subaru know, that the dragon didn't want to hurt him. Because killing someone is not hurting them.

Subaru then saw the Divine Dragon charging up an attack

"no."

Subaru quickly fumbled around through in pant's pocket pulling out Ram's wand

And before Volcanica unleashed his divine breath threw it into the entrance of the tower

Subaru then quickly covered his entire body in envy and prayed that he would not have to return by death

BWAWOOOOOSH

Volcanica's breath was fired at Subaru with such great speed, that it not only broke the sound barrier but seemed to straight up kill all the sound in the area

However even if nobody heard the Purification Breath being shot, they could certainly see the light emit from it.

If it was nighttime, the whole world would have been engulfed in its light.

And Subaru could only pray that he didn't die in such a miscalculated way.

Even with his eyes closed, what should have been a black void was lit up into a blinding white.

The light was so painful

Subaru felt his and her envy continuously growing and hardening trying to keep him from taking damage.

Even if he was not yet reduced to dust, it felt like his skin was being cooked alive

Subaru knew he wouldn't last long like this

The fact that he hadn't immediately turned to dust did demonstrate how powerful his authority was, but it wasn't mastered, nor did he have enough experience to fully realise its defensive abilities. Maybe if he could utilise envy to 100% it would be enough to withstand the Divine Dragons Breath. But that was not the case.

So all Subaru could do was look deep within himself

And even though the infinite blinding light, Subaru found something deep, deep within himself

Something he had not used in forever

However, it only took a millisecond for Subaru to realise what he found

"(sloth)"

Subaru in a ditch attempt used the authority not even bothering to call out its name

And the fire stopped

The dragon flew back into the roof of the tower

And Subaru still stood

Alive

"...h-huh?"

Subaru looked at himself and noticed that he couldn't see himself

"W-what happened"

Subaru slowly looked around noticing that he was in a massive burnt ditch

"This is... gah!"

Subaru felt his brain tremble at this new sensation

It wasn't unbearable, but it seemed to slowly grow worse, like a knife being slowly being pushed into his brain

Subaru realising this decided to dash towards the tower's entrance using his new version of Sin factor of Sloth.

Subaru would call this ability

"Providence Conceal"
