Quinneth’s P.O.V.-
“Hey Lyra hand me the stapler.” I tell Lyra as I’m holding onto the black glittery float skirt. She leans over to the side and hands it to me. I walk all around the float as I staple it, once I’m done, I step back and observe it.
“It’s really coming together.” I say out loud. We’ve been working on this float for about 3 days now. A giant bat sits on top of it colored in black and white. Around it is tiny bats and our school’s name ‘Batcaver’s High School’.
“I thought this was going to look weird, but I like it.” Lyra says analyzing the float. I agree with her. When Dana and the others showed us the blueprint of the float it looked... horrible. Now to see it all built out it looks amazing.
“Me too.” I respond back to her.
“Ok guys you can all take a 30-minute break. Be back here on time.” Dana yells out to everyone.
Everyone puts down what they were doing and walk over to their friends, or leave out of the gym. Me and Lyra go over to sit on the stage.
“I called you last night, but you didn’t answer.” Lyra tells me sipping on her water. I did see that she called, but when Alexander left all suddenly, I was so occupied I never called her back.
“Sorry, I had Alexander over and then h-.” Before I could finish my sentence, she cuts me off.
“Wait, Alexander was over.” I give her a nod.
“All of a sudden we started talking about the human/wolf thing and he totally freaked out and left.” I tell her.
“Maybe he’s scared of wolves.” She said shrugging her shoulders.
“I don’t really think so Ly. It was something else... I can’t put my finger on it.”
“Hey Ly come over here we got to show you something.” I look over to see Mary waving her hand for her to come over.
“Go. I got to use the bathroom.” She skips on over while I walk over to the bathroom. Going inside the bathroom I do my business then walk over to the sink. As I’m washing my hands, I lean up to see someone I never thought I’d see again.
Myers.
I lean against the bathroom sink, clenching on to the sides of it. His brown hair is wild and he looks in distress. Bruises decorate his face all the way to his neck and arms.
“Hey baby.” He says bringing his hand up to my cheek. I lean my head to the side in disgust by his touch. All I feel is his dry fingers rack against my skin, breath laying against my neck.
“Get away.” I say my voice shaking.
“No one to protect you now, just you and me.”
My hands leave the sink and I push him against the wall. He rises up from the floor and tightens his grip on my arms.
“Someone has some balls huh. Did lover boy give you some confidence?” He asked. “Tell him I know what he is, and that this isn’t over.” He throws me against the wall and disappears. I stand there for a few minutes and clutch my neck, my heart beating out of my chest. My breath hitches in my throat, I can’t breathe I need to get out of here.
Walking out the bathroom, I hang on to the wall while walking out the school door. Once I feel the fresh air on my face, I began to breath the same again. How did he know where I would be? How did he get here?
I haven’t seen him since the night of me and Alexander’s date. Not a text nor a phone call from him. Didn’t even see him around school either. I start to think of what he said in the bathroom.
What did he mean about that he knew who Alexander really was? Is there something about him that I don’t know? Is that the reason he left so suddenly last night; was I close? All these questions rake my mind that I don’t notice someone behind me.
“Hey.” I hear someone say behind me, I jump in fright.
“Don’t do that!” I scream out as I clutch my shirt, fright surges through my body.
“Sorry. Hey... Hey it’s me Alexander I won’t hurt you.” He rests his hands on my face trying to read the expression on my face. “What’s wrong?”
“Myers.” Once he hears that name his jaw clench's and I feel heat rise up to his hands. The heat warms my face and helps me stay calm.
“Where is he I’ll kill him.” He stays through his clenched jaw. He drops his hands from my face and begins looking around for him. I grab him by his hands and bring him close to me.
“He’s gone Alexander.” I say to him. His eyes direct themselves back to me.
“Where did he go?” He asked.
“I don’t know.” He looks at me with a confused expression. “When I was in the bathroom, he cornered me.
He told me things.” I say whispering the last part, but he picked up on it.
“Things? What kinds of things?”
“He told me that it wasn’t over.” I say looking into his eyes. He searches around for something to say.
“What wasn’t over?”
“I have no idea. Also, that he knows things about you.” A look on his face lets me know he may know what Myer’s was referring to.
“He’s just playing with your head that’s all.” Yeah maybe.
“Why are you here?” I asked him. Not that I’m complaining or anything I’ve been waiting to see him all day.
“I brought you food.” He picks up a bag off the ground. Reading the bag, it says ‘Burg-oh-wow'.
I let out a laugh and a sincere smile. “I was craving that all day. It’s like you read my mind, stalker.” I say jokingly.
“Whatever. Follow me.” We walk back inside the school. As soon as we enter the gym all the girls turn to him. They all huddle with their friends, whispering to each other. Wonder what that’s all about.
I tap on Lyra’s shoulder. She turns around and gives me a smile, once she looks behind me her smile turns into a grin.
“What’s the hottie doing here?” She asks smirking at me. I turn around to see Alexander leaned up against the door. He waves at me and Lyra, we return it back.
“He brought me lunch so I was going to go eat it with him. You be ok alone?” I asked her.
“It’s fine I got the girls, go get your groove on.” She said shaking my hips. I swat her hands away.
“Stop. See you in 30.” I turn around, me and Alexander walk back outside the doors.
“Where are we going to eat?” He asked me.
“Well, there’s my car.” I respond back. He pulls me back to him and shakes his head.
“Hell no. I’m practically a giant your car is way too small.” He is really big. Not just with muscles, but height.
“Fine then how about your car.” I suggest. He gives me an Ok and we procced over to his car.
In Alexander’s Car...
“If I could eat this every day I would.” I tell Alexander while taking another bite out of my burger.
“I know you would. I’m hooked on this Quinn, ever since we went there, I can’t get enough.” He laughs as he wipes his hands on a napkin.
“Glad I could be the cause of your addiction.” Once the car gets quiet, I ask him the question that has been racking my mind since yesterday night.
“Why did you leave my house all suddenly?” I asked him taking a sip of my soda. He looks out the window of the car then back at me.
“It was nothing. My father needed me to come home, urgent problem.”
“I hope everything is ok.” I look at him with a worrying expression. I could tell he wasn't saying the truth, but I didn't want to push him.
“It is, don’t worry.”
“You know, I don’t think your father likes me.” I tell him looking down at my food. He grabs my hands ever so delicately and holds them close to his chest.
“What makes you say that?”
“At the presentation last week, he cut his eyes at me. Also, when my class visited Germani Industries he looked at me like I did something wrong.”
“He’s just... he doesn’t know you that’s all. Trust me he doesn’t hate you.” He plants two gentle kisses on my hands and returns them back to me.
Looking at my watch I see that my break Is almost up. I really don’t want to leave him, but everything good must come to an end.
“Looks like it’s time for me to get back. If Dana catches me coming in late she'll be mad."
"Dana.. the one who's holding a vendetta against you."
"That's the one." Before I open up the car door he pulls me by my arm to him.
"Are you sure your alright?" He asked coddling my cheek. I rest my hands on his giving him a fair smile.
"Now that your here I am. Call me?” I say hopefully.
“Wouldn't miss it.” I lean in to him and lay a kiss on his cheek. Throwing our trash in the bag, I grab my phone and get out his car. I stand in the driveway as he drives off.
I don’t know what I’d do without him. Walking back inside the building I think to myself. We’re kissing each other on the cheek and hands. Every day we hang out, call and text. What does that make us?
“Ready to get back to work?” Lyra asked me.
“Sure.” I throw our trash in the garbage and get back to work.
