New gaming device

Andrew lay on his bed, looking at his newly acquired immersive gaming device, as he muttered to himself:

"Can I really game with these small sunglasses?"

Although he called it "sunglasses", the device was much bulkier than sunglasses.

The sides seemed to be made of white plastic, housing some components, as it was thick, with a few buttons that could be pressed, but the main part was the green colored thing that made it look like sunglasses.

Currently, the main gaming devices in the market were gaming helmets, that helped gamers immerse themselves in the game world, so Andrew could not be blamed for his skepticism.

"Even if it is possible, will it really give a super real immersive feeling as promised?"

He suspected that he was cheated, but he remembered that he got it for free, so with the mentality of "what if", he decided to give it a try.

After putting the device on, he pressed one of the few buttons on the device, a few seconds passed, and he felt himself lose control of his body, and panicked.

Before he could completely loose his marbles, there was a pop up in front of his eyes.

Having been paralyzed in the bottom half of his body most of his life, nothing terrified him more than suddenly loosing control of his body, so Andrew was really panicked!

Other gaming devices let the player control his in game character with his mind, there will always be a connection with the body, but this game seemed to be able to sever this connection.

What surprised him was that, after he answered, he immediately gained back the control of his upper body, letting him heave a sigh of relief.

A minute later, after calming down his nerves, he realized that what happened to him before seemed to be a part of the process he needs to go through in order to play the game.

Andrew looked at the "sunglasses" in his hands, lost in thought.

He was really uncomfortable with the idea of loosing control of his body, but given how quickly he gained back control, it was quite clear that the company that designed the device had mature technology.

'Such technology probably went through a lot of vetting before it could be released to the public, right?'

'So it won't malfunction, right?'

Andrew looked at the device with both apprehension and expectation.

After all, in the advertisements of the game, the company claimed that it could let the gamers experience a different world.

They claimed that even the blind would be able to see in the game, so someone like him should be able to experience the feeling of being able to walk again, right?

Andrew finally made the choice to give the game another try, while reminding himself:

"Hope is poison to the heart, don't expect any miracles, Andrew,"

"As long as the gaming experience is good, then it is worth the try,"

His words said one thing, but his clasped hands and steadily increasing heart rate told another story.

He found such a game concept to be refreshing, and he was already feeling anticipation for the gameplay.

As the voice came to a halt, Andrew found himself floating in the void, and in front of him, was a planet that glowed green.

It seemed to have way more continents and island than his original planet.

The key part is that it looked very real, even more so than the planets that were photographed by the scientists in "the real world".

Andrew couldn't help feeling that the long time he spent waiting would be worth it, if it meant that the rest of the game will be of this quality.

Only by being able to rectify this world, would he prove that he could handle the responsibility of choosing worlds at will.

'I had to wait for so long just to get here, so I definitely can't go back empty handed...'

He thought, as he chose to start rectifying the world.

Andrew was disappointed that he did not get to create his character, but he could accept having to choose from three.

When the three pictures appeared in front of him, Andrew became annoyed again.

Two of the three pictures depicted women, with big breasts and wide hips, as a big man, how could his soul possibly match with that of these women?

"Is this what you mean by "characters that match your soul frequency"?"

Andrew knew that the game probably used a randomizing feature to choose from the pool of characters available, but he was still annoyed.

Ignoring the two female characters, Andrew focused on the single male character.

The character had a slightly chubby face with handsome features, and he was wearing a luxurious brocade robe that had auspicious beast patterns woven in gold.

He had an air of wealth, that set him off as a typical merchant from ancient times.

'There really isn't much of a choice here...'

Andrew thought as he decisively selected the male character.

The moment he made his choice, his vision went blank for a few seconds, and then he appeared in front of the "character" he chose.

There was a soft white glow as Andrew's soul body entered the character's body.

And in that moment, some information was transmitted to him in a way he had never experienced.
