The months pass and Doran grows more and more, in his tenth month of life the little prince took his first steps. This time Doran made sure that such a moment was witnessed by the whole family, the main branch that is. He did not want to repeat the incident of his frist word.
One afternoon, when the entire main Martell family was gathered at Sunspear, Doran got up and took his first steps. He walked four steps in a row before falling on his ass!
His whole family looked at him in amazement.
"Well done Dory!" Lewyn is the first to run to him, picking him up and hugging him. His parents and grandparents follow him.
That night they had a banquet to celebrate the milestone, best of all Doran is now old enough to start eating solid food.
`Lemon tarts are the best!`

During those months Doran also met other members of House Martell.
Manfrey Martell is Sunspear's castellan but for the last year he and a large part of House Martell moved to Water Gardens to keep company with Princess Daenerys who was not feeling very well.
The elderly Targaryen princess spends most of her time in the palace that her late husband built for her as a wedding gift; she rarely visits Sunspear. In early 247AC the princess's health deteriorated and many of her descendants moved to Water Garden, worried that they would lose the elderly matriarch.
Daenerys is already 76 years old, she lived a long life but the Stranger still does not dare to take the last daughter of Aegon IV from this world, in recent weeks her health has improved a lot and her descendants have returned to their homes. Most of them, Jacarerys's eldest son, Andrey Martell, and his family are still in Water Garden.
Manfrey is married to Saera Waters, bastard daughter of Prince Daeron (Son of Maekar I) and together they have two sons: Trevor, who is three years old and Valyrian through and through, and Teora, a baby a few months old who is all Martell.
Doran was charmed by them, especially Trevor who reminds him of his late godfather Sirius Black.

Doran's life takes a turn in his eleventh month of life. His mother went into labor a month and a half early.
Doran was on his grandmother's lap as she and his mother discussed the profits from that year's trade.
"The Stepstones pirates have cost us eight ships this year and we're only halfway through the year." Dorna rubs her forehead in stress.
"From what I've heard we're not the only ones, almost all the Houses that have ships passing through the Stepstones have lost more ships than usual this year." Obella frowns angrily. "There are rumors of a new Pirate King."
"I've already sent Jace to investigate those rumors. Since the islands are close to Dorne he should be here in a week at the latest." Piracy has increased a lot in the last few months, if the pirates continue like this the Seven Kingdoms will bring their fleets to deal with them. Wars have been fought for many reasons, from the beauty of a maiden to one lord insulting another. And something that pisses off all lords is when their treasury suffers.
"!" Suddenly Obella cries out in pain and clutches her belly.
"What's wrong daughter!? You! Call Wulfric! Now!" The princess leaves the prince on the sofa and runs to her daughter.
She sees the liquid on the floor and the wet skirt and realizes what is happening.
"You're giving birth." She says in disbelief.
"No! It can't be, it's still too soon!" Obella screamed in terror. She knows very well the fate that many premature babies suffer. The thought of losing her baby... No, she doesn't even want to think about it.
"You, take my grandson and take him to the nursery. And someone call Trystanne!"
A servant carries the frozen baby in her arms and takes him away.
Doran's eyes are fixed on his mother and her womb.
`No! I can help! I am a healer!` He wants to scream but he knows it will be useless. No one would believe that a baby is a more qualified healer than a maester. And even if they believed him and didn't think he was crazy or possessed by some kind of demon there's not much he could do.
One of the first things he did upon realizing he reincarnated was to check if he still has his magic.
Much to his relief he is still a wizard. His magic is quite different, it's more wild, more untamed but also somehow feels more powerful.
He feels that this body has even more potential than his previous one.
But it doesn't matter how much potential he has because he is still too young. His magic is not developed enough to be used. There's a reason kids have to wait until they're 11 to start learning magic, and it's not because they're not emotionally mature enough to use magic responsibly. Magic is like another muscle, to strengthen it you have to use it a lot but to be able to use it magic has to be developed to a certain point.
You can get very strong and fast if you do a lot of physical exercise but if you abuse your muscles when you are still young, before they are developed, you will end up doing more harm than good. Same with magic.

But Doran is not willing to sit idly by, if it is necessary to use magic to save his baby sibling or his mother will do it even if he ends up screwing up his own magic.
His family is more important, he can live without magic but he doesn't want to live with them.
That is why Doran stayed awake during the 6 hours that the labor lasted. He waits sitting on the floor outside the room looking anxiously at the doors. Two nannies and four guards are watching him, several times they have offered to take him to sleep even if it's only a few hours but Doran refused. But he accepted the food when it was offered to him, he will need the energy if he has to use magic.
Finally the doors open and Maester Wulfric steps out. Wulfric is a man a few years older than his grandmother, he has the appearance of a salty dornishman but with baby blue eyes.
The Master approaches the young prince and lifts him off the ground.
"You are going to meet your little brother, my prince." He is tired but smiles reassuringly at Doran.
The prince's eyes are fixed on the room.
Inside he sees his mother lying on a bed with a bundle in her hands, his father hugging them both, a reflection of almost a year ago when Doran was the baby.
Obella looks exhausted, she is drenched in sweat and her eyes have dark circles under them but she still smiles at her children.
Wulfric passes the prince to Trystanne who brings him closer to his mother and his new baby brother.
"Come here Doran." His mother's voice sounds as tired as she looks. "Meet your little brother, Mors Nymeros Martell."
Doran looks at the bundle wrapped in blankets.
"Potato." He said accidentally.
They all stare at him for a moment and soon burst into loud laughter. Doran blushes embarrassed, he didn't want to say it out loud but it's true! All newborn babies look like potatoes, all wrinkled and red.
"Yes, well." The maester tries to calm his laughter. "That will change in a few months." He coughs a little, regaining his composure.
"Mors is almost identical to you when you were born, son." Trystanne ruffles his hair and smirks at him.
Doran crosses his arms and pouts, which is soon replaced by a big smile. He touches his little brother's cheek and sees Mors open his eyes. Golden eyes like his uncle and grandfather.
`Wow!' The baby grabs his finger and Doran's heart races.
"Mors" he says the name of his little brother for the first time. Something warm exploded in his heart. Unlike the love he felt for his mother and his father, it was a special and indescribable emotion. In the end, 11-month-old Doran couldn't really put into words exactly what he was feeling. But in the face of this fleeting life, a creature that seemed like it would break if Doran even touched him, something like a masculine sense of responsibility really came to life within him, a feeling that he had to protect this little life.
***
Doran was very relieved to see that his little brother is fine, even if he was born premature his heart was beating fast and his lungs were working perfectly.
But still he couldn't shake off the worry, he has a strange feeling. He feels that if he leaves his little brother alone something bad will happen so for the first time in his life he throws a tantrum until his parents allow him to sleep in the same room as Mors, he even insisted that they put the cribs next to each other .
At night when his little brother slept and his parents and nannies went to bed too, Doran climbed his crib and entered his brother's.
He lays down next to the baby and puts a hand on Mors's chest, the beating of his heart calms him and Doran finally closes his eyes.
But still something prevents him from sleeping.
The hours pass and Doran is lying next to his little brother with his eyes closed but very awake. He hears the door open, and someone enters the nursery.
The person walks with silent steps, but Doran hears a whisper that makes his hair stand on end.
"Kill."
