Zera's hands were still trembling. But out of the five of them, she was the only one sitting across from the mafia boss inside the black BMW. 

She could count the beat of her heart, every thundering an unsteady rhythm. But her thoughts of the blood and the dead body distracted her. It scared her to the point that she was ready to believe she would lose her sanity if it continued that way.

"You needed drugs," a smooth, velvety voice jerked Zera off the space where she had been swimming aimlessly. It took her a minute to realize who spoke.

She ducked her head, squeezing the hem of the windbreaker, nodding.

"You look too young to be taking such extreme measures."

Zera stared at her still tremblings fingers.

"Life happened," Zera replied, her voice sounding hoarse after all the screaming she had done. 

A resounding silence followed her claim. She could almost hear her breathing.
