Inside the quaint little town of Pallet Town stood a well-off house with neat and kept garden, and various Pidgies flying over the roofs. Sun shined warmly over the lake that shimmered under it.

And in this place, outside a building behind which stretched farm for as long as eyes could see, stood a boy who looked to be around 10. He had crimson-red hair and gem-green eyes. He had a healthy tone of fair skin, with a lithe athletic body. He was wearing black cargo pants, a white t-shirt, and a long blue cardigan with several pockets. On his waist was a peculiar belt with multiple pockets, and finally, brown boots that looked to be made for rough terrain.

He took a look at his watch and found that the present time to be a minute past 5 of the morning.

"It is time." He said with a resolute face, barely able to hide his excitement. With his legs, he quickly walked up the flight of stairs and stood in front of the door to the lab of the famous, Professor Oak. He was about to push the glass-like door aside when with a small barely imperceptible hum. But the boy did not pay attention to it. His attention was fixed on the inside of the laboratory which was filled to the brim with advanced gadgets you would only see in your wildest dreams.

"Oh, you must be the new kid."

A voice took him out of his stupor, at which he snapped his neck to the source of the sound that turned out to be a man with white hair, and a long overcoat on his body, sipping on a cup of coffee.

"Professor Oak." The boy said, a bit surprised, not due to the presence of the person here, but being caught off guard.

"Nice to meet you. You are…?"

"Wilhelm. Wilhelm Sylvesterus Diluc Rothchilde." Wilhelm replied.

With the quirk of his brow, Prof. Oak said, "Oh, you the Greg Rothchilde's son."

"Yes, Prof. Oak." Wilhelm replied with a nod.

Then Professor Oak looked at the clock by the wall, he said gesturing to Wilhelm inside, "Well, it seems you are right on time. Let's go on then and get you your first Pokemon." and saying that, he took another sip from the mug, and turned around, started to walk inside, and like a duckling following his mother, Wilhelm obediently followed him inside.

As he went through pathways, Wilhelm encountered a few researchers working on machines and things he could not understand. The reason their numbers were few might have been because it was quite early in the morning and since today Pokemon would be given out, there was no reason for them to come.

All of this came to a halt when Prof. Oak stopped inside a room, which had some other machines beeping around, like the rest of the lab, but the thing that caught Wilhelm's attention was a small platform.

Pokeballs for the starters!

He squealed in joy internally as he stared upon the Pokeballs, something which did not escape Prof. Oak's eyes, at which a small grand-fatherly smile crept upon his face.

Okay, just as I practiced.

Prof. Oak thought as he took a breath and began speaking.

"Okay, welcome Wilhelm. I, Professor Samuel Oak, would like to formally welcome you to the next important step of your life.

And with this brief statement, I would like to introduce you to your would-be partners that will participate with you on your journey.

First, is the fire-type Charmander.

Second, is the water-type Squirtle.

Third, is the grass-type Bulbasaur.

Make your choice wisely, though seeing your grades and academic report, I am inclined to believe you have already chosen one."

Prof. Oak ended with a personal comment of his own, as Wilhelm nodded.

"Yes, Prof. Oak. I have long thought about this, and after considering everything…" he muttered as he moved about the platform before grabbing a Pokemon with a tight grip and continued, "…Charmander! I choose you!"

Then the room was filled with a brief flash of red light which soon shimmered down, leaving behind a single more occupant in the room in the form of a small orange bipedal salamander-like being with a wisp of fire burning on its tip.

Then the lizard turned to Wilhelm and looked at him with those shiny eyes of his and after a moment of what seemed like complete silence, it opened its mouth and said,

"Char~"

Walk.

Pick.

Hug.

Squish.

All of this happened in an instant as Wilhelm reached and picked up Charmander in a hug, at which Charmander just turned around and nuzzled Wilhelm's cheek.

"Do you like him?" Prof. Oak asked with a gentle look.

"I love him." Wilhelm replied as he squished Charmander harder.

"Hahaha! That is good to hear. It is important for a trainer and his Pokemon to have a good relationship with each other. Now, before you set out on your journey, there are other things you must have." Prof. Oak said as Wilhelm and Charmander break out from the hug, and his assistant bring a tray on which small red rectangular things are kept.

Reaching his hand out to the tray, Prof. Oak took the red thing and under the eyes of Wilhelm, he said, "This is Pokedex. My latest invention. It will register every Pokemon you come across and provide you with details regarding that Pokemon and also will update it in my database.

Not only that, it will serve as your I.D. and can be taken to any authorities in case trouble arises. Hope that you use it wisely."

Prof. Oak said as he extended the Pokedex to Wilhelm who picked it up, and said looking him in the eye, "Don't worry Prof. Oak. I will."
