Chapter 24

"I can still remember the day as if it was just yesterday. Your mother and I still didn't moved on from the joy and happiness we felt even though it had been a year since Charles graduated from the Academia, and not only that, he was ranked third in the whole Kalos Region at the trainer's examination camp. Not just a city but the whole region of Kalos!" As Clint thought back to that memory he couldn't help his lips curving on to a smile. "The whole family congratulated and was joyous of that, your big brother exhibited a talent that I and your mother, didn't even noticed.

Of course, it was also because your grandfather seemed to have noticed his talent in training much earlier that he secretly began to train him from time to time, which shows to us that he had high hopes placed in your brother. He trained him with so much dedication that it was only after some time we began to realize it, father even gave him a pokemon, a dragon-type which was highly regarded by any person in this world the day he got that ranking from the examination."

Caleb's eyes went wide at that, a freaking DRAGON-TYPE? An honest to Arceus, Dragon?

Seeing his son's reaction made Clint laugh. "We were also shocked when we got the news from him, honestly we we're worried since dragon-types aren't that easy to tame and train. Thinking that it was too early for a trainer who just graduated and so young to get a hold of one in his rooster.

Your mother, especially was pretty worried. But at his age, at that time, it was expected for him to be so rebellious.

Shockingly, his talent with Pokemons showed and he quickly bonded with the dragon."

Clint reached at his breast pocket and took out his wallet. He pulled out a picture and showed Caleb a picture.

"This was your big brother with all of his pokemon."

Caleb glanced at the picture and gasped. "Woah! An Axew!? Grandfather gave him an Axew?"

He gotta admit, Caleb was envious. He then moved his eyes to his brother's other pokemons.

With his big brother at the center. With features that was simply perfect, Caleb noticed that his big brother hugely inherited their mother's genes. On his right was a Skiddo, Caleb guessed that this was his starter Pokemon.

He was amazed as the grass-type was much more bulkier and has such an intense gaze even on the photo, Caleb felt that this was a pokemon that had been trained magnificently.

On his left was the Axew, and on his shoulder was a flying-type, a Pidgeotto.

The second evolved form of the Pidgey species.

Which meant that his brother had a total of three pokemons.

Clint left the photo on the table for Caleb to stare at.

Then, his voice changed as it carried more weight. He sighed and talked. "Your big brother was an excellent trainer. With one year of experience he had already proved himself to be a competent trainer as he completed missions assigned to the League, missions that carried great danger but he managed to complete multiple of, again and again trained himself through this missions."

Clint paused as he hesitated to continue, his hands was shaking as he reminisced 'that' day. He took a deep breath and continued. "Until a catastrophy happened. He wasn't meant to be assigned for that mission since the mission was graded to be very high on the list. But the League, for no justification put him on a difficult mission with seven others."

The pokemon world was dangerous so they ranked missions so that they could accordingly assign or make trainers decide on the missions they could work on, recent graduates were forbidden to pick a mission that the League judged to be too difficult. This was a great system that was implemented as it prevented tons of casualties from beginner trainers.

But, mysteriously they assigned a recent graduate, Charles Laurent, an A-ranked mission that focused on investigation a site where a village on the territory of Kalos was massacred.

"There were a lot of problems in the process." Clint then began to narrate the things he knew.

The team of eight that included Charles sent a emergency signal to the League, a request for backup.

"An official of the League strangely opposed of the request, because of that bastard's opposition it was delayed for a few hours until backup was finally sent. But it was too late." Clint's fist clenched as he trembled, his eyes were bloodshot. His mind was thinking of the scenarios where, what if the backup trainers was sent immediately when they got the emergency signal or he could have been at his son's side as it wasn't strange for a guardian to accompany their family since he knew the difficulty of that mission.

"...at that time it was too late..."

A massacre happened in between the city of Anistar and Terminus Cave, which was where the link water network of Kalos flowed, during a meeting with the champion of Unova, the champion of Kalos, and the regional professor were discussing some classified matters.

"A massacre?"

"Yes. It was such a huge event that it was talked about in the world news for weeks."

There, Kalos's public officials and a few researchers, even the champion of Unova's people and subordinates were assassinated. Got a hold of their goal which was documents which this important figures were keeping classified.

Those assissins retreated south, which was where the region of Fiore was. When they reached the border, where coincidentally the place your big brother and his team were doing investigations on met those vile trainers, which were the assassins.

Caleb was a little shocked as he listened to his father talk.

However, the problems continued.

"Something… something went wrong. I still don't believe what happened."

Clint said through clenched teeth.

"Our son, Charles was accused of being part of the massacre."

"What?"

Caleb's eyes narrowed.

He couldn't understand why his big brother was suddenly involved in the whole incedent when he was only a trainer which had a profile not worth to suspect.

"It was so weird. Charles was meant to only do a mission, but his whole group was accused because of the coincidence where the trajectory of the two parties are headed."

"They accused him because of that?"

"…the prosecution showed a recorded video from a drone of Charles and his group entering and exiting the hide out which the assassins were hiding at."

"They caught him on a drone camera?"

That was even more absurd.

If they were on a border then it was certain for it to be a barren land, a place where CCTV's much more a drone could even wonder to go at.

However, that one drone managed to be there at that time. Was it just a coincidence, Caleb highly doubt it.

"That was the only evidence?"

At Caleb's question Clint grunted.

Grunt!

"Not long after, an investigation unit was sent, but when they arrived at the hut, they found no one. Except bodies of corpses."

And when the autopsy was concluded, it was determined that those bodies were officials of the Kalos's League which went missing.

"The League, and even your grandfather was sent for a search when we heared the news, the former aiming to retrieve the documents and latter trying to find our eldest. We waited and waited, until your grandfather came back with no results and beared a more heart wretched problem which broke down your mother's heart, including mine."

"...father told us, the League judged your bother as a wanted person and the trainers of Kalos were informed to find and bring him back, alive... Or dead..."
