Chapter 39

Nidorina was the female species of the Nidoran evolutionary line. Like Nidorino, it was the first evolution of Nidoran (F) so the world perceived her the same say they did Nidoking, special attacker! As the Nidorina dashed towards Vioarr, a yellow spark suddenly flashed between her brows. It happened so quick, neither Jax nor Vioarr had time to react towards it at all. A second later, a streak of yellow came down from overhead and struck Vioarr!

Luckily, it was only a Thunderbolt and not it's more powerful version, Thunder. Either way, it still hurt like hell and was the first time Vioarr was actually injured during a pokemon battle a trainer. So far, Vioarr and Jax has spent most of their time away from school and in the abundant trees in Thora Forest. They didn't have any afterschool battles with classmates like most of the students did, they spent their time fight wild pokemon, grinding EVs.

"Ugh! Shoot, I think that Thunderbolt cause Paralysis. I can't move my body as well as I normally can."

Hearing his partner send his thoughts into his head, Jax felt like he had let his little brother down. Jax knew better than underestimate anyone because when you become too arrogant, you start making amateurish mistakes like what just happened. With the near-death experiences Jax and Vioarr had just gone through, they felt like they had decades of more experience compared to their peers.

"Sigh, I guess they don't call this a prestigious academy for nothing. There are crouching tigers and hidden dragons everywhere. A Nidorina that already knows Thunderbolt. Although there are much better moves out there, I do have to admit that it's a pretty decent TM."

Waking out of his over-inflated ego, Jax took a breather to calm his nerves and get into battle mode. "Vioarr, tactic Circle 1." Finally taking the situation seriously, Jax changed his tactic from the one they've been using all day to a more rounded play style.

Hearing his trainer, Vioarr started to apply Venom Drench onto the entire battlefield while at the same time, laying down poisonous barbs with Toxic Spike. With his six-starred speed, he was clearly way faster than Nidorina. If he wasn't caught off guard earlier, no way that Thunderbolt would have hit him.

Noticing that her Nidorina wouldn't be able to catch up to Vioarr, Aina decided that a long-ranged play would be smarter. Telling Nidorina to come back, Aina then ordered her to start preparing a Thunderbolt. It took quite a bit of time to charge up to it must not have been maxed-out yet. In fact, with the charge time, it looked like the move was still at level 1. If so, how did Nidorina use it so quickly earlier?

Feeling like the numbers weren't adding up, Jax pushed it to the back of his head. He could worry about those things later; he had a battle to win. Just because they changed tactic didn't mean that Vioarr only stuck to the same preconceived moves. Circle 1 is a well-rounded play style which means play it by ear. Feeling like the Thunderbolt was about to be done charging, Vioarr casted Protect and Endure to make sure he at least had a sliver of health even if he was hit with the same move, twice.

Just as the Thunderbolt fell down over Vioarr's head, he already saw it from a mile away! No way he was going to be hit by something so slow. Wrong! He was still Paralyzed from earlier! Not taking that into account, Vioarr's whole body froze up and the only thing he could do was endure the crackling, electrical flash of yellow rain down onto his body. Vioarr knew he would still be standing at the end of move because he had successfully casted Protect and Endure previously.

Once the Thunderbolt finally died down, Vioarr was left with almost no more energy. Jax knew that the situation was dire. If he made the wrong choice right now, they would lose their chance of getting a Diamond grade dragon-type pokemon. But more importantly, he would have broken his promise to Ally! She even explicitly told him that she takes her promises very seriously!

"Vioarr, we can't keep running away. Now we just look like cowards. I think it's time for tactic Square 1."

Look at his trainer, Vioarr had the biggest grin on his face. "Yes, about time! Now I feel bad that I'm going to beat up such a beauty. Oh well, I'll lick her wounds later, hehe!" Feeling excited, Vioarr started charging up his moves. That's right, moveS. This was a little secret the two found out accidentally. While training Vioarr's skill mastery one day, Vioarr got frustrated that Confusion wouldn't level up to MAX no matter how hard he trained. In his anger, Vioarr used Fury Attack but not before he cancelled the charging of Confusion. The result? Multiple Confusions shot out at the same time!

At the time, Jax was completely shocked at what just happened and thought that Confusion had finally reached MAX level but when he asked Vioarr, only then did he find out what actually happened. Using that as an example, the two brainstormed up other possible combinations of moves that would add more exaggerated effects or increase a moves power and versatility. Some of the moves were so brokenly OP that they were banned by both trainer and pokemon and locked away behind a little something they liked to call, Tactic Square 1.

Combining the maxed out Thrash with the level 3 Horn Drill, Sucker Punch, Takedown, Poison Sting, Peck, Fury Attack, Double Kick and newly learned level 1 Iron Tail, the duo made a skill so monstrously strong that they didn't even think the Beedrills deserved to be on the receiving end of it. That was how seriously Jax was taking his insignificant promise with Ally. "Sorry, but I can't afford to lose this battle."

Hearing the handsome boy speaking to her, Aina looked at him then towards his pokemon and noticed that something was wrong; something was very, very wrong. Biting her lips, she didn't know if she should surrender when victory was so close at hand. I mean, it's a Diamond grade dragon! That's literally everyone's dream pokemon. Taking one last look at the Nidorino, Aina recalled her own pokemon and signaled the referee that she was surrendering. But, um, why was the Nidorino still charging his move?
