Chapter 34

Monday had finally arrived and Jax couldn't be anymore excited. Although this past weekend was way too action packed, Jax was especially looking forward to battling today. A month had finally passed since Professor Uriel told the entire class that the staff would be holding Pokemon Academy's annual Battle Competition! As much as Jax was looking forward to seeing how far along his classmates have come, a certain shy girl at the top of the list, Jax was even more eager to find out what his Platinum grade egg would be! That's right, Jax already took it for granted that in this competition, he would be the one to emerge victorious.

Ding! Dong!

The bell signified that classes had begun so all the students rushed back towards their seats. For such an amazing day, none of them wanted to punished by the teachers for misbehavior and disqualified from the competition. Soon after, Professor Uriel walked into the classroom followed by teachers that many of the students here were familiar with as they were all teachers who were directly in charge to teaching some of the students more about their own personal pokemon.

"Good morning, class! Yes, the long-awaited day is finally upon us! I know you're all very excited to find out just how strong each and every one of you are, but I have a couple quick announcements to make before we begin. As many of you may not know, this school was made after the rise of Team Rocket in the hopes that a trainer will be birthed in these pristine white walls who will bring back stability to Kalpotron. Some of the best trainers and professors from around the world came together, pooled their own money and resources, and sacrificed not only their careers but sometimes even their lives to protect these walls and the students within. I do not mean to pour water over your spirits, but a trainer must have a goal to become stronger. If you only pursue power with no destination in mind, you will become lost along the way in these turbulent times."

Listening to their esteemed homeroom professor talk in a tone they weren't used to, most of the students became confused or even afraid. The select few who did pick up on the hidden words behind her speech had fire blazing in their eyes. Humanity's hope. The one who will save the world. Only those who were worth of this title was worth of the school's resources! Although rich, there were simply far too many students and training even just one pokemon was already a challenging and money-sucking endeavor, how was the school going to provide for all of the children until the reach 10 years old!?

"Now, that the bad news has gotten out of the way, I also bring along good news. For one particular student, in fact. The strongest trainer of our time, a man deemed the strongest trainer of the century, Headmaster Leon who hails from the far Galar region just recently came back from his trip. Some of you might be wondering why this pertains to you, haha, worry not children, I'm getting to that part. Along his journey across the world rooting out Team Rocket bases, Headmaster Leon came across a rare pokemon. He guarantees its grade to be Diamond potential. Not only that, it's even a dragon-type pokemon!"

"WHOA!" the whole class stood up and started clapping. A Diamond grade pokemon!? A dragon-type!? The students were beyond excited and only had one thought in mind, 'I will win this competition!'

While the students were cheering, 5 students stayed seated in their seats. One of them, a boy who Jax remembers as George Adams, looked incredibly bored. Jax didn't really notice the boy since Jax hardly spent any time at school after he was allowed to miss his classes. What Jax didn't know was that George had long noticed Jax. Not because Jax was extremely handsome for a 6 years old boy nor for the fact that he was getting closer to the girl every guy in the class wanted a chance with. No, George knew from day one that Jax was also an aura user although he had yet to awaken them at the start of the previous school year.

Another male student actually had his head down on his desk like he was still napping! Jax thought for a while before recalling that this sleeping boy was named Walter Jr. Keys and he had severe hypersomnia. Although Walter Jr. was usually sleeping the day away, Jax once caught him battling another student at the back of the school building. With a Snorlax as his starter, Walter Jr. made quick work of the student before falling back asleep.

The next student who was still sitting down was a certain auburn-haired, freckled girl with green glasses. Jax tried really hard to remember her name but since he only had eyes for Ally, her name just wasn't coming to her. Vioarr, noticing his trainer's attention focused on the bespectacled, pretty girl, telepathically talked to Jax.

"Why do you keep looking at Olivia? Keep looking and I will tell on you to Ally!"

Hearing his little brother's voice in his head, Jax finally remembered the girl who was scribbling away in her notepad, Olivia McBeth! Although she didn't have much of a presence, Jax knew that she was a bookworm since every time he saw her, she was always nose deep in an encyclopedia.

The next student who stayed seated was someone Jax was extremely interested in, that's right, it was little Ally! Although the shy girl was facing the front of the class, she didn't look like she was paying attention to anything the professor was saying. Her face was scrunched up and she was constantly turning her head around the classroom like she was looking for something or someone. Making eye contact, Jax sent her a little wave but Ally just turned beet red and sank lower into her seat. 'Cute' was the only thing Jax could think of while looking at Ally trying her best to become one with her chair.

Now, why was our protagonist sitting down. Did the Diamond grade dragon-type pokemon not interest him? Well, sure he would love to have one but Jax could always go find his own. With his system, he could even tell if they were shallow diamond, diamond, or dense diamond which was way more accurate than the machines the rest of the world was using. What caught his attention more than the news of the prize for placing first was the aura of a monster sitting behind the classroom. Turning his head, Jax stared right at where the monster was currently sitting. Although nothing was there, Jax trusted his newly upgraded eyes. The monster smiled back.
