Chapter 20

Although the duo ate their rations not that long ago, and ate countless bushes worth of berries, they still went around the cave system eating whatever it was that Vioarr pointed out. Jax made sure to store at least one type of whatever they ate into his sub-space so he could ask the system later. Just as they were about to go off into another direction led by Vioarr's nose, the floor started to vibrate.

Living his whole life back on Earth by the coast where there were tons of tectonic plate movement, Jax knew that this wasn't the beginning of an earthquake. It felt more like, like a heavy object was being raised and pounded into the ground repeatedly. As the duo stood still and alert about their surroundings, they were able to pinpoint in which direction the vibrations originated from with the help of Vioarr's extremely sensitive ears.

"I think the vibrations are coming from over there and from the looks of it, coming closer." Vioarr pointed towards the tunnel that they noticed earlier thinking it would be the exit out of this maze-like cave system.

While the two bent down to hide themselves better within the covers of the surrounding vegetation, they noticed a shadow exiting the tunnel. Once it was finally all out in the open, Jax and Vioarr were wide-eyed. The cause of all this rumbling, the reason why they even ended up down here from the beginning, the worst pokemon they've ever ran into was looking around this cave!

"No! What is that thing doing here!? Don't tell me it chased after us this far!?" Jax was blown away at the sight of Metagross exiting from the tunnel. The good news? It obviously didn't come down the way they did which means that tunnel really did lead to the outside. The bad news? It was currently being blocked by a half-ton tank.

"Wait, Brother! I don't think it came here knowing we're here. It seems to be walking away." Vioarr noticed that the Metagross only looked around by didn't really pay any close attention to detail. It also started walking away from the hiding duo.

"This is probably its lair! Just our luck! We ran away from a wolf just to enter its lair. Sigh. If I didn't follow you and ate so much, we could have exited this cave already! The exit was right there!"

"No use crying over spilled MooMoo milk, Brother. Who's to say that we wouldn't have ran into Metagross inside of the tunnel while we were leaving? Let's secretly follow it and see where exactly its lair is. Once it falls asleep, we can run away!"

Thinking about Vioarr's suggestion, it sounded plausible, so they quietly followed the Metagross. The Metagross didn't head directly towards its lair, however. It stopped here and there to eat on some of those berries that the two had previously enjoyed. Seeing as how the Metagross ate the berries with no worry eased Jax's mind a little. If it ate the berries with so much gusto, those berries couldn't have been anything bad. Finally having its full, the Metagross continued its journey. Over 30 minutes later did it finally reach another opening that was hidden behind thick, overgrown bushes.

"No wonder we didn't notice any other openings. These bushes completely hid it! Vioarr, go back inside your Pokeball. I'm going to try and sneak in and you aren't exactly a silent walker." After saying so, Vioarr returned to his Pokeball while Jax stealthily followed the Metagross. Using the natural rocks within the tunnel, Jax hid every now and then to make sure that Metagross wouldn't notice his tail. This tunnel was longer than all three of the previous tunnels, even if you combined them all together!

After 2 hours of walking did the two finally exit into another cave. This cave was definitely bigger than the one Steelix was resting in but much smaller than the latest one. Looking around, Jax noticed many different kinds of pokemon carcass and some bone fragments to his right. Ahead of him was the Metagross who had laid down and closed its eyes already.

'Probably tired after fighting and chasing us the whole day. Plus, it did eat quite a bit, so I bet it has food coma right now. Good, I can look around without too much worry.' Thinking so, Jax felt a little braver to venture further into Metagross's base. Having already taken a look to his right at the pokemon graveyard, and with Metagross laying directly ahead, the only place left to look was to his left. Steeling his nerves, Jax left the confines of the opening and ventured towards the left side of the cave. Thankfully he did too because the sight left him completely awestruck!

Sitting on what appears to be a makeshift nest laid a pretty big egg! 'Yes! I struck gold! A Beldum for a second pokemon would be perfect! Not only is it a type that I don't have, once I find a Metagrossite, having a mega-evolved pokemon on my roster would be way too powerful! Plus, I'm in desperate need of a Psychic pokemon. After reaching level 5, it's been so hard to level up. Not even that near death experience with Metagross helped me level up. How am I going to get to level 10 at this rate!'

Unfortunately, while Jax was lost in thought, he didn't notice to tiny tremors coming from the floor. How could there be similar tremors if this Metagross was still fast asleep? As the shaking became more powerful, only then did Jax realize that something was wrong. Scanning around his surroundings, he didn't find any place that would provide adequate cover for him. The only place left to hide was back towards the tunnel, but something was obviously coming this way! With quick thinking, Jax raced across the cave towards the right side, found a pokemon carcass that was neither too fresh nor too rotten and climbed inside. 'Ugh! This is disgusting! Thank you, Leonardo DiCaprio! If not for you, I'd definitely be a sitting duck!'

After what seemed like ages, Jax could finally see what was causing those tremors from the inside of the dead pokemon and the sight left him praying to Kami-sama. Another Metagross! With 3 Beldums! Obviously, this was the Metagross that they had fought earlier! Only now did Jax put two and two together. To make a baby, there had to be a mother and a father! The birds and the bees! With only his mother by his side his whole life and seeing the lone Steelix from earlier, Jax completely forgot that in order to make a baby, there had to be both X and X/Y!
