Apex Hydreigon [1]

Nanuq refocused his attention on the Hydreigon. "I know I'm not your trainer, but it'd be better if you allowed me to help you in this battle."

Although Nanuq couldn't grasp a Pokemon's innate emotions, he could discern what they were experiencing on the exterior by how the air moved about them. Nanuq had previously felt the air grow menacing, which prompted him to leave Lake Marina quickly.

The Hydriegon returned Nanuq's stare as if to determine if the young kid was being deceptive. It twisted its head back to face the opposing group of six, then grunted in agreement.

"Hey, are you going to get in our way? What can you do with a Pokemon that is on the losing side? Can't you see our Salamence doesn't have a single scratch on it?"

Nanuq clicked his teeth at Pyrus' words. "That does not matter. Hydreigon still stands tall. And I can't just leave it alone right now; after all, it is the defender of these lands."

Pyrus' crimson eyes narrowed dangerously. "Suit yourself. This will help collect a little more data. I hope you do not disappoint me, brat."

Nanuq remained mute, his gaze returning to Hydreigon. The young teenager had a general understanding of its moveset based on previous studies. Apex Pokemon, unlike most, stood on a different level, with one of the benefits being able to utilize a full arsenal of eight or even ten moves instead of the traditional four. This was to assert itself as the pinnacle of authority.

Nanuq realized he couldn't disclose his Gyarados just now, no matter how much he wanted to. Nanuq had a sneaking suspicion that these individuals were to blame, but he lacked additional evidence. He would win the battle and then receive his answers!

"Alright, Hydreigon, start this with Focus Energy!"

"What a useless move. Salamence, bombard them with Draco Meteor!"

Hydreigon's fuschia eyes narrowed as its body was outlined by a surge of tangerine-colored energy. The Salamence flapped its wings as it flew high into the air before opening its mouth and shooting a gold and black orb down at Hydreigon. As it did so, it split into a smaller storm of orbs.

"Hydreigon, fly into the storm while using Dragon Dance!"

Hydreigon roared and flapped its narrow wings, propelling it forward into the sky. To Pyrus' amazement, the Hydreigon appeared to perform Dragon Dance to gracefully avoid the meteors. Pyrus, in such a circumstance, couldn't help but admit that this would not be another dull battle!

"Salamence, Dragon Rush!"

Nanuq narrowed his gaze before commanding. "Keep flying at it!"

Pyrus turned back to Nanuq, wondering if he had lost his mind. Pyrus had no idea what was going through the kids' minds, but it was enough to keep him on his toes. The most dangerous individuals were those who could not be deciphered!

Nanuq shouted as Salamence approached. "DODGE TO THE SIDE AND USE HYPER VOICE!"

Pyrus' eyes widened at the opposing command; he watched as Hydreigon just missed the strike by a hair's breadth and unleashed a loud screech directly into Salamence's face, undoubtedly causing disastrous damage, as seen and heard by its higher pitch.

Nanuq grinned; the Focus Energy he used appeared to take effect immediately. Although Hydreigon was previously on the losing end, with someone backing it up, it could now make better use of its moveset!

"Tch! I have no option! Salamence, employ the Light's Blessing!"

Nanuq's eyes expanded. "What? That is not..." However, before Nanuq could proceed, he noticed that when Salamence fell, the ridges above its eyes glowed, and its body was enveloped in light!

"Haha! You were going to say that such a move does not exist, correct? That's the beauty of this Salamence!" Pyrus smiled, "It isn't your typical Dragon anymore. Now, watch as your efforts to damage Salamence become meaningless!"

As the glow around Salamence faded, its body appeared to be free of any bruises, as if it had used Recover! Nanuq noticed this and felt the hair on his neck bristle.

Pyrus, seeing Nanuq's perplexed expression, couldn't help but comment. "Don't tell me you're terrified already. You only have yourself to blame for believing you could help Hydreigon."

Nanuq shook his head, ignoring Pyrus' words. His mind appeared to be vacant, as it had been during his combat with Callix before parts of a puzzle began to rush in. His terror was replaced by an unusual sensation, which he experienced whenever he felt in danger!

"It seems he's..."

"Hydreigon, use Stealth Rock if you have it in your arsenal!"

"Huh?"

The Hydreigon, which had earlier been afraid, moved its gaze down to Nanuq, noticing that something had changed within the teen. It didn't take long before it accepted the command. With a reverberant roar, the area began to flood with floating blue stones, all different shapes and sizes.

 "Have you lost it?"

Nanuq ignored Pyrus and continued to issue directives. "Now, get in close with Dragon Rush!"

"Tch, this child is ignoring me. Okay, we can play that game. Salamence, respond with your own Dragon Rush."

The two dragon-types, both considered Apex Pokemon in their regions, rushed at each other, surrounded by an azure, dragon-shaped aura with long, thin wings resembling Hydreigon's. Salamence's Dragon Rush had a golden aura and two enormous wings that resembled Salamence's.

Nanuq screamed out once more as they approached each other. "HYPER VOICE!"

Hydreigon expanded its teeth, letting out a monster yell on top of the Dragon Rush! The force was enough to drive Salamence to lose its edge, and as the two Pokemon collided, Hydreigon rapidly won the battle and pushed Salamence onto one of the floating Stealth Rocks, causing it to explode on impact.

Pyrus, Bora, and the other men let out a collective gasp. It wasn't until Pyrus realized what Stealth Rock was used for that he began to see what he hadn't before. This strategic thinking was something he only witnessed in front of his superiors!

It was at this point that Pyrus realized he wasn't fighting an ordinary kid.
