Chapter 47: Togepi, The Cute Egg Pokemon

(On a bright and sunny day.)

(Mew and her friends arrive in the Pokemon Center of the small town.)

(At the front desk, Nurse Joy asks.)

Nurse Joy: "Is your name Mew?"

Mew: "Yeah,"

(Mew says.)

Nurse Joy: "I have a message for you both,"

(Nurse Joy says, holding a card.)

Mew: "For me?"

(Mew replies.)

(She opens it to reveal moving pictures of Professor Oak.)

(The prerecorded voice says.)

Message: "Greetings, Mew! It's Professor Oak! Give me a call when you get the chance."

Mew: "It's from Professor Oak," Mew replies.

(Then Misty says.)

Misty: "I guess it's been a while since you talked with him Mew. Why don't you give him a buzz?"

Mew: "Okay,"

(Mew says.)

(She dials on the phone and says.)

Mew: "I hope he's home."

(Then the professor instantly answers the phone.)

(Mew says.)

Mew: "Hi, Professor Oak! It's Mew!"

Professor Oak: "Hello there, Mew! I suppose my message found its way to you,"

(Professor Oak says.)

Mew: "Yeah,"

(Mew replies.)

Professor Oak: "How is everyone?"

(Professor Oak asks.)

(Then spots Pikachu and Eevee.)

Professor Oak: "Say! Pikachu and Eevee sure are looking well."

Pikachu and Eevee: "Pikachu! Eevee!" (Thanks Professor!)

(Both Pokemon answer.)

(Then Misty says.)

Misty: "I'm fine, too!"

Tomo: "Me too!"

(Tomo happily says.)

Professor Oak: "I'm glad to hear it! Well, they say no news is good news, but I do wish you'd let me know how things are going now and then,"

(Professor Oak says.)

Mew: "I know. We've been kinda busy,"

(Mew says.)

(Soon, Mew notices that Muk is trying to hug the professor.)

(Professor Oak quickly says.)

Professor Oak: "Come on! Cut that out!"

(Mew giggles and says.)

Mew: "My Muk seems to be doing okay."

Professor Oak: "Taking care of it hasn't been so easy,"

(Professor Oak says.)

(Then tries to get Muk off.)

Professor Oak: "Will you behave?!"

(Then turn to Mew.)

Professor Oak: "I hope the next Pokemon you send will be easier to manage."

Mew: "The only Pokemon I caught recently were Aerodactyl, Omanyte, and Kabuto,"

(Mew says.)

Misty: "That's right,"

(Misty says.)

Brock: "And each of us have fossils from Grandpa Canyon as well,"

(Brock says.)

Professor Oak: "Well, make sure the next ones aren't so mucky,"

(Professor Oak says.)

(Then gets covered by Muk.)

(Get quickly gets out and says.)

Professor Oak: "I almost forgot! Have you heard about the new Pokedex upgrade?"

Mew: "Pokedex upgrade? No,"

(Mew answers.)

Professor Oak: "Well, it's a new upgrade for trainers who are still considered beginners, regardless of how many badges or Pokemon that they have. Now you can get details on even more Pokemon information and discoveries, both past and recent,"

(Professor Oak says.)

Mew: "Wow! How can I get it?"

(Mew says, interested.)

(Professor Oak points down.)

Professor Oak: "Just put your Pokedex into that slot, one at a time, and I'll do it. Once upgraded, your Pokedex will have an updated database, and even a new voice."

Mew: "Alright!"

(Mew says, and inserts her Pokedex.)

Mew: "I'm putting mine in right now."

(The Pokedex goes in and it quickly comes up.)

Professor Oak: "Okay, it's all done,"

(Professor Oak says.)

(Mew takes her Pokedex out, and says.)

Mew: "Thank you."

Professor Oak: "You're welcome. By the way, did I just hear that you all have Pokemon fossils?"

(Professor Oak replies.)

Misty: "We do. All four of us each have one,"

(Misty says.)

Brock: "And Mew caught three living Prehistoric Pokemon,"

(Brock adds.)

(Then Tomo happily says.)

Tomo: "And Charmeleon evolved into Charizard. And Misty has a new Egg."

Professor Oak: "My, sounds to me like you had quite a story to tell,"

(Professor Oak says.)

(Mew and the others explain to Professor Oak about what has happened in Grandpa Canyon and how Team Rocket has caused them problems, but everything is fine now.)

(Of course, the Professor is surprised that Mew has almost become Pokemon food, but glad Charizard is there to save her.)

Professor Oak: "That was an ordeal, I'm glad to see none of you were hurt,"

(Professor Oak says.)

Mew: "We're glad too,"

(Mew says.)

Professor Oak: "Yes. Since you have Pokemon Fossils, I know a place where you can get them restored,"

(Professor Oak says.)

(This surprised the group.)

Mew: "Really?"

(Mew asks.)

Professor Oak: "Yes. There's a lab in Cinnabar Island that has a special machine that can restore Pokemon Fossils. I'm sure you can get your fossils restored there,"

(Professor Oak says.)

Mew: "Sounds like a good idea,"

(Mew says.)

(Sometime later, Mew and her friends are having lunch at a restaurant and look at the map.)

(Misty points to a location on the map.)

Misty: "Here it is. Cinnabar Island. And it says that there's a gym there."

Brock: "We can get our fossils restored and Mew can have her gym battle."

(Brock says.)

Mew: "Sounds like a great idea,"

(Mew says.)

Tomo: "Let's go there!"

(Tomo says.)

(Mew then turns to Misty.)

Mew: "So Misty, how is your egg doing?"

Misty: "It's doing fine,"

(Misty says.)

(Then brings the egg out of her backpack.)

(She happily sighs.)

Misty: "I can't wait for it to hatch?"

Tomo: "When do you think that egg's gonna hatch?"

(Tomo asks.)

Misty: "Who knows?"

(Misty says.)

Mew: "I wonder what's going to come out of the egg,"

(Mew says.)

Brock: "It's hard to tell, but I'm sure it will hatch to be a healthy Pokemon,"

(Brock says.)

Misty: "Maybe it will hatch into a Water Type Pokemon, like a Tentacool, or maybe even a Squirtle,"

(Misty says.)

Mew: "Well, since it's found in Grandpa Canyon, it might even hatch into a Prehistoric Pokemon like Aerodactyl or an Omanyte,"

(Mew says.)

Brock: "That's a possibility, too,"

(Brock says.)

Tomo: "Maybe it's a Kabuto,"

(Tomo says.)

Brock: "It could also be a Rock Type Pokemon,"

(Brock says.)

(Misty happily fantasizes.)

Misty: "Imagine if it were a lovely Lapras!"

Mew: "It could hatch into a Mythical or a Legendary Pokemon,"

(Mew says.)

Tomo: "That would be cool,"

(Tomo says.)

(Then Mew says.)

Mew: "However, we won't know what Pokemon it is until the little guy hatches."

Misty: "You're right,"

(Misty says.)

(While the gang ponders about what Pokemon that is in the egg and when it would hatch.)

(they are being spied on by Team Rocket.)

(They quickly hide in the employee egg.)

Meowth: "Did you hear that? They're hatching a new Pokemon!"

(Meowth says.)

James: "I'll bet it has to be a Dragonair or even a Dratini,"

(James thinks.)

Jessie: "No, no. It must be an Aerodactyl or a Kabuto,"

(Jessie replies.)

Meowth: "Whatever it is, we gotta get our hands on that egg. This could be the chance we've been waiting for!"

(Meowth says.)

Jessie: "Imagine when the boss hears we've captured a Pokemon,"

(Jessie says.)

Meowth: "He'll be shocked,"

(Meowth says.)

(But James says.)

James: "Don't forget, we haven't even succeeded in capturing that one little Pikachu from those kids! We have a proud tradition of failure to uphold!"

(Jessie then kicks James.)

Jessie: "Then you'll fail!"

Meowth: "And we'll win,"

(Meowth says.)

(Jessie and Meowth then whisper among themselves.)

(on how they plan to steal the egg, leaving James out of the loop as he tries to hear the conversation.)

(James cries out.)

James: "I can break tradition!"

(Later on, Mew and the others leave the restaurant to continue their journey.)

Mew: "So, how far to Cinnabar Island?"

(Mew wonders.)

Brock: "Hmm. It looks pretty far,"

(Brock says.)

(Suddenly, two hooded girls appear with baskets.)

(One says.)

Girl: "Hello, everybody!"

Another girl: "Good day!"

(Another girl says.)

(Then they begin to kick high like Can Can girls, making the group look dumbfounded and confused.)

two girls: "We kick up our legs, so you can buy our eggs,"

(The two girls say, showing the baskets full of colorful eggs.)

(Misty picks up one of the Eggs.)

Misty: "What kind of Pokemon eggs are they?"

girl: "Wait and find out when they hatch,"

(One girl says.)

second girl: "Won't you buy some, please, please, please?"

(The second girl says.)

Mew: "We already raised a few eggs, and Misty already has one,"

(Mew says.)

Tomo: "Yeah,"

(Tomo replies.)

(The two girls approach Misty.)

(One of the girls happily says.)

girl: "Let me see. Show me."

Misty: "Um okay,"

(Misty says.)

(The two girls look at the egg with interest.)

girl: "It's pretty. Lovely,"

(One girl says.)

(The other says.)

Another girl: "Beautiful."

(Suddenly, they both count.)

both: "One. Two.".

(Then they toss the baskets full of eggs at Mew and her friends.)

(They all fall to the ground as the egg is knocked out of Misty's hands.)

(When the group looks around, they see the eggs surrounding them and the real egg is mixed in the bunch.)

Misty: "Which one is my egg?!"

(Misty panics.)

Mew: "They aren't egg sellers!"

(Mew says.)

(Suddenly, the two egg sellers laugh and remove their disguise to reveal Team Rocket.)

Jessie: Prepare for trouble.

James: Make it double.

Jessie: To protect the world from devastation.

James: To unite all peoples within our nation.

Jessie: To denounce the evils of truth and love.

James: To extend our reach to the stars above.

Jessie: Jessie.

James: James.

(Suddenly, they hear Brock say.)

Brock: "Is that it?!"

(Team Rocket looks in shock to see our heroes are busy looking for the egg instead of paying attention to them.)

Jessie: "Hey! You didn't let us finish!"

(Jessie angrily says.)

(James says.)

James: "Yeah, that's right! And we didn't even get to the best part!"

(Misty picks up one of the eggs and asks.)

Misty: "Is this it?"

(The egg opens to reveal a paper with a frown on it.)

(Brock picks up another.)

Brock: "Isn't this it?"

(But when it opens, it reveals a tongue.)

Mew: "These aren't real eggs. They're just cheap imitations,"

(Mew says, holding another egg.)

(When it opens, it reveals a bat as well.)

(Suddenly, Meowth appears holding the real one.)

Meowth: "Is this what you're looking for?"

Brock: "That's it! Meowth's got Misty's egg!"

(Brock says.)

Jessie: "It was.."

(Jessie says.)

James: "Her egg,"

(James says.)

(Then they run away as Meowth says.)

Meowth: "Let's beat it!"

(Mew angrily calls out.)

Mew: "Come back, you thieves!"

(With that, Mew and her friends chase after them.)

(The group searches for Team Rocket, but are unable to find them.)

Misty: "Oh, my egg is gone,"

(Misty says, upset.)

Brock: "Don't worry Misty, we'll find Team Rocket and get your egg back,"

(Brock says.)

Mew: "We'll find them,"

(Mew says.)

Tomo: "How are we going to find them?"

(Tomo asks.)

Misty: "Tomo's right. We have no idea where they went,"

(Misty sadly says.)

(Suddenly, they hear Eevee.)

Eevee: "Eevee Eevee," (Hey guys, over here!)

(The group turn their heads to hear Eevee's cry.)

(The group hurry over to find Pikachu and Eevee standing in front of a white egg with red and blue polka dots.)

Mew: "What have you got there?"

(Mew asks, picking the fake egg up.)

(The egg opens to reveal a paper for a silly face on it.)

Mew: "It's one of those Eggs Team Rocket have,"

(Mew says.)

(Misty looks ahead and notices.)

Misty: "Hey!"

(She hurries down the trail and picks up the egg.)

Misty: "Look! It's another one! If we just follow these eggs, they'll lead us all the way to Team Rocket!"

(The egg opens to reveal a toy bat flapping inside.)

Tomo: "Those eggs are nothing but a bunch of junk,"

(Tomo says.)

Mew: "Should have known that Team Rocket couldn't steal the egg without messing something up,"

(Mew says.)

Brock: "That maybe, but they still manage to take the egg from us,"

(Brock says.)

Mew: "That's true. Either way, if we continue to follow the trail, we'll be able to find Team Rocket and the egg,"

(Mew says.)

(And that's what Mew and her friends do.)

(They hurry down the forest trail as they follow the trail of Eggs Team Rocket have left behind.)

(Each time they find an egg, it pops open to reveal a trick inside.)

(Sometime later, Pikachu hurries to see the last egg and says.)

Pikachu: "Pika! Pika Pika!" (Yo guys, I think we found them!)

(The group walks over to see a cabin and it's where the trail of eggs ends.)

Brock: "They must be in there,"

(Brock says.)

(Mew and her friends secretly sneak towards the cabin.)

(and peek through the window to see Team Rocket and Meowth is holding the egg.)

Brock: "That's definitely the egg,"

(Brock says.)

Mew: "Right. Now's our chance,"

(Mew says.)

(Then Mew calls out.)

Mew: "Go, Pidgeotto! Steenee! Espurr!"

(With that, her Pokemon comes out.)

Brock: "Go, Geodude! Sneasel! Rockruff!"

(Brock calls out and releases his Pokemon.)

Misty: "Staryu! Oddish! Vaporeon! Snover! I choose you!"

(Misty calls out.)

(Yet, Psyduck comes out of her backpack.)

Misty: "No, not you!"

(Misty shouts and smacks him with her backpack.)

(Then Tomo calls out.)

Tomo: "Growlithe! Cubone! Buneary!"

(Mew then shouts.)

Mew: "Alright everyone! Charge!"

(Soon, the Pokemon burst into the window.)

(That causes Team Rocket to be starred as the Pokemon charge.)

(James exclaims.)

James: "What's going on?!"

(The Pokemon send Team Rocket across the floor and spill their lunch.)

(Soon, Meowth notices the egg is gone. Then turns to see Snover run to Misty with her egg.)

(Misty takes her egg and says.)

Misty: "Thank you Snover!"

(Meowth angrily says.)

Meowth: "Hey, give me back my egg!"

Misty: "That's funny, and all along I thought this was my egg,"

(Misty says.)

(Meowth angrily says.)

Meowth: "Go get them, and my egg!"

(Jessie throws her Pokeball calling out.)

Jessie: "Go, Arbok!"

James: "Weezing, go!"

(James says, doing the same.)

(Both Pokemon are released from their Pokeballs and Weezing starts with his smoke screen attack, covering the area with smoke.)

Brock: "Careful, guys!"

(Brock says.)

(Suddenly, Arbok comes over and attacks Misty, making her drop the egg.)

(Then Meowth catches it.)

Misty: "My egg!"

(Misty exclaims.)

(Brock calls out.)

Brock: "Geodude, Tackle attack!"

(Tomo calls out.)

Tomo: "Buneary, use Pound!"

(Both Geodude and Buneary use their attack and strikes at Meowth, causing the Egg to fly to Mew.)

Mew: "I've got it!"

(Jessie intercepts.)

Jessie: "I've got it!

Mew: "Hey!"

(Mew cries out.)

(Then says.)

Mew: "Steenee, use Double Slap!"

(Steenee charges then Double Slaps Jessie.)

(The egg flies to a person or pokemon, but the teams of different sides tackle each other to get the Egg.)

(Mew then calls out.)

Mew: "Pidgeotto, Gust attack! Blow this gas away!"

(Pidgeotto then uses Gust to clear the room as Meowth approaches Team Rocket.)

(Suddenly, the attack causes Meowth to send the egg flying once more.)

(but this time, no one is going to catch it, everyone begins to panic in horror.)

(Misty panics.)

Misty: "Quick, somebody catch it! The egg's gonna break!"

(Mew tries to catch the Egg, but misses and the Egg continues to fall.)

(When Mew turns as she lands on the ground.)

(She is surprised to see Pikachu and Eevee have both caught the egg.)

Pikachu: "Pika". (Gotcha.)

(Pikachu says.)

Mew: "Pikachu! Eevee! You saved the egg!"

(Mew happily says.)

Misty: "You did it!"

(Misty happily says.)

Brock: "Nice catch!"

(Brock says.)

Tomo: "Alright!"

(Tomo happily says.)

(Pikachu and Eevee then give Misty her egg back.)

(Misty is so happy, until she feels something moving.)

Brock: "What's wrong, Misty?"

(Brock asks.)

Misty: "It feels like there's something moving inside,"

(Misty answers.)

(Just then, the egg begins to glow.)

Mew: "The egg… is hatching!"

(Mew says, surprised.)

(Mew and her friends, Team Rocket, and all the Pokemon watch to see the egg glowing and it begins to crack.)

Misty: "It's starting to crack!"

(Misty says.)

Brock: "Yeah! It's about to hatch!"

(Brock says.)

(Everyone watches as the egg begins to crack on the top.)

(Just then, the top part of the egg bursts and the baby Pokemon let's out a yawn and opens its eyes.)

(The baby Pokemon is a light yellow Pokémon with a round body that is still encased in its eggshell.)

(It has stubby hands and round feet with two toes each that has brown pads.)

(It also has black eyes and five spikes on its head that seem to form a crown.)

(The vision of the baby Pokemon becomes clear to see Misty holding it up with happiness.)

(Misty happily says.)

Misty: "It hatched! It hatched! Oh, how cute!"

(The infant Pokemon looks at Misty with a confused face.)

Misty: "Oh. Hello to you, too,"

(Misty happily says.)

(The baby Pokemon smiles and says.)

Togepi: "Prrrrri! Toge Toge Toge." (Mommy mommy mommy!)

Mew: "Awww! He thinks you're his mommy!"

(Mew happily says.)

Everyone: "Awwww!"

(Everyone else says in reply.)

Misty: "Oh, we're so lucky!"

(Misty happily says.)

Brock: "We are!"

(Brock says.)

Tomo: "Right!"

(Tomo says.)

(Then Team Rocket comes over to see the baby Pokemon.)

Jessie: "If Pikachu and Eevee hadn't caught it.."

(Jessie says.)

(Then James says.)

James: "That precious little Pokemon might have.."

(Mew and her friends turn their heads to see Team Rocket.)

(Then Team Rocket quickly stepped back.)

(Jessie says.)

Jessie: "We have a battle to finish!"

James: "I almost forgot!"

(James adds.)

(Meowth then commands.)

Meowth: "Let's get em!"

(With that, Arbok and Weezing begin to charge.)

(Mew then calls out.)

Mew: "Pikachu, Eevee, Thunderbolt attack!"

(Pikachu and Eevee both use Thunderbolt and shock the bad guys until they fall to the ground.)

(causing the group to call back their Pokemon and escape.)

Misty: "See ya!"

(Misty says.)

Mew: "Later!"

(Mew says.)

Brock and Tomo: "Bye!"

(Brock and Tomo say.)

(After escaping Team Rocket, Mew and the others head to the park to play with their new friend.)

(Misty covers her face and says.)

Misty: "Where am I?"

(Then remove them with a smile.)

Misty: "Hi!"

(The baby Pokemon moves his arms around as he calls out with excitement.)

Misty: "It's so cute!"

(Misty says.)

Mew: "It sure is, Misty,"

(Mew says.)

(Then brings out her Pokedex.)

Mew:: "Let's find out what it is. Since we got a new update."

(Dexter says.)

Dexter "Togepi, the Egg Pokemon. A Fairy Type. Togepi is filled with an energy that makes people happy. When treated well, Togepi shares this energy with others, but when it comes near a human with an impure heart, this energy quickly disappears, leaving Togepi exhausted."

Misty: "So, Togepi's your name. You even sound cute,"

(Misty says.)

(Pikachu waves to Togepi.)

Pikachu: "Pika." (Hello.)

Eevee: "Eev." (Hi.)

(Eevee says.)

Togepi: "Toge Toge," (Hello.)

(Togepi happily says.)

Misty: "You think so, too. Don't you, guys?"

(Misty replies.)

Pikachu: "Pikachu," (I sure do.)

(Pikachu says.)

Eevee: "Eevee." (He sure is.)

(Eevee happily says.)

Mew: "Of course it's cute. All newborns are cute,"

(Mew says.)

Brock: "That's right,"

(Brock says, picking up Togepi.)

(Then makes a funny face to make Togepi laugh, but to no avail.)

(Then Mew has an idea.)

Mew: "You know, I think Togepi will be happy to have other little Pokemon around. And have some others to play with.

(Mew calls out Galarian Ponyta, Teddiursa, Cleffa, Axew, Shiny Dratini, and Igglybuff.)

(She also calls Steenee, Espurr, Bulbasaur, Wooloo and Sunkern.)

Misty: "Good idea,"

(Misty says, and calls out her baby Pokemon, Mudkip.)

(Misty also calls out Vaporeon, Jigglypuff, Oddish, Snover Sobble, Psyduck, and Snorunt.)

(Soon, all the baby Pokemon, including Togepi begin to play together.)

(while Pkachu, Eevee, and the other Pokemon play with the young ones or keep an eye on them.)

Misty: "Looks like Togepi is getting along with the other Pokemon,"

(Misty happily says.)

Mew: "Especially the little ones. I think it's good for Togepi to be around younger Pokemon.

(Togepi happily walks to Misty and says.)

Togepi: "Toge toge. Toge togeprrrriii," (Mommy mommy. Mommy mommy.)

(Mew giggles.)

Mew: "You know, it's very cute to hear him calling you mommy."

Misty: "It is, but how come?"

(Misty asks.)

Mew: "I think it's because you're the first thing it sees,"

(Mew says.)

(Then she brings out her Pokedex and Dexter says.)

Dexter: "Like all newborn Pokemon, Togepi is imprinted with the image of the first thing it sees after it hatches, thinking this is its mother."

Brock: "That explains it. When it hatched, Misty was the first thing it saw,"

(Brock says.)

(Misty giggles and says.)

Misty: "That's sweet! Togepi likes me because it thinks I'm its mother. Right, Togepi?"

Togepi: "Togeprrrii," (Yes mommy.)

(Togepi says.)

Misty: "I'll love you just like a mother would,"

(Misty happily says and hugs her new Togepi.)

Misty: "You are very sweet, Togepi,"

(Misty says.)

(Then Mudkip comes running and hop to Misty to see Togepi.)

Mudkip: "Mudkip Mudkip," (Hello Togepi.)

(Mudkip happily says.)

Togepi: "Togeprrrrrrii!" (Hello Mudkip!)

(Togepi happily says.)

(The two happily talk to each other as they hop off Misty and begi to play together.)

(Misty giggles.)

Misty: "Look at that, they're friends already."

Mew: "I think they're all starting to become friends,"

(Mew says.)

(Soon, the group begins laughing with smiles on their faces.)

(They have a new member of their group, little Togepi.)

(Who knows what surprises the cute little Egg Pokemon will have on this adventure. As the Journey continues.)
