181: Dragonite vs Gardevoir

Pokemon Academy, Komoda City.

From the moment Dragonite was called out, Hisoka began to have doubts.

Should he switched to another Pokemon?

Given the state Weavile was in, he decided to remove her from the match.

As Weavile was being drawn into the Pokeball, he silently expressed his gratitude and retrieved another.

"Let's do this, Gardevoir!"

Hisoka threw the Pokeball into the ring and watched as it popped open.

As a graceful figure, reminiscent of a princess from a fairy tale, began to take shape on the ring, a beautiful melody filled the arena. The air around her almost seemed to hum at the high level of mental energy she had at her command.

"Fire that flamethrower, Dragonite!"

As soon as Gardevoir showed up, Drake issued an order.

Dragonite inhaled deeply and released a stream of flaming breath at Gardevoir.

"Light Screen, Gardevoir."

Confidence radiated from Hisoka's voice as he said that.

Shortly before Gardevoir would have been struck by the Flamethrower, a shimmering purple barrier appeared in front of her, dispersing the terrifying flame breath.

"Great, now continue with Misty Terrain!"

Hisoka quickly sent out the next instruction.

He, alongside everyone, gazed in awe as Gardevoir bowed her head and clasped her hands together in prayer as a thick blue mist rose from the ground and filled the entire ring.

Dragonite, meanwhile, let out a feeble howl as it felt the Dragon-type energy draining from its body.

"Damn! It's the new Fairy-type move!"

Drake snarled with clenched teeth.

"Don't worry about the mist, Dragonite! Focus on your opponent."

Dragonite nodded in response, and a surge of blue light began to erupt from within its body.

While Dragonite was charging at Gardevoir with the help of Dragon Rush, Gardevoir unleashed a Disarming Voice, which only dealt minor damage to Dragonite; though Dragon-type Pokemon were vulnerable to Fairy-type moves, their sturdy bodies made up for it.

"Gardevoir! Use Reflect!"

A shout came from Hisoka.

Dragonite which was being covered in light blue energy slammed right into Gardevoir's defences.

Hisoka ordered Gardevoir to Teleport out of there as the shield collapsed under the domineering power of Dragon Rush.

"Extremespeed!"

Dragonite, who had been in front of Gardevoir just now, suddenly appeared behind her and slammed its head on her back, sending her careening off.

"Gardevoir!"

Hisoka clung anxiously to the rails.

"I'm fine, Hisoka."

Suddenly, he heard Gardevoir's voice echoing in his head.

In a sigh of relief, he saw her hobble to her feet while making a grimace of pain. Her body gave off a faint green glow, implying that she had already used Wish to heal herself.

"Try it again, Dragonite! Extremespeed!"

Drake's voice was audibly heard.

This time, however, Dragonite's attack was blocked by Gardevoir, who had seen it coming. As both Pokemon darted back and forth across the arena, the match turned into a contest of speed. Everyone could barely catch a glimpse of their shadows.

"Gardevoir! Use Disable!"

Hisoka commanded. As things stood, Dragonite was beginning to get used to her Teleport speed, which meant that they had to find a solution soon.

Gardevoir reappread in a corner and write a mysterious red rune in the air in one stroke. Then, she threw it at Dragonite. Dragonite stopped moving abruptly as the rune struck its chest; its Extremespeed disabled.

She then shot a Psybeam at Dragonite out of the blue, knocking him against the wall.

A short time later, Dragonite emerged from the dust and sped off in the direction of Gardevoir. It lashed out with its Dragon Tail, but Gardevoir sidestepped out of the way and shot a Flash at point blank range at it in an effort to blind it.

"Dragonite! Use Thunder!"

Drake's timely help came at this moment.

"Protect! Gardevoir!"

Likewise, Hisoka's voice was heard.

A lightning bolt the size of an arm slammed down on Gardevoir. The force of the impact was felt throughout the entire ring.

After the smoke cleared, Gardevoir was seen enclosed in a solid blue barrier, seemingly unharmed.

"They can no longer use Protect, Dragonite! Use Dragon Rush!"

Excitement radiated from Drake's eyes.

"Really? Then, take this, Moonblast!"

With that, a brilliant pink energy ball was launched towards Dragonite by Gardevoir.

As Dragonite flew away, it was blasted from behind by hundreds of blue energy beams, causing him to crash to the ground.

"Future Sight? When did they set that up?"

Drake said with astonishment.

Dragonite shakily rose to its feet and roared with enraged eyes.

"I knew you wouldn't surrender, pal."

Drake said with a grin on his face.

"Now use Dragon Pulse!"

In a split second, Dragonite sent a bluish-purple beam towards Gardevoir, which resulted in the ring being engulfed in a tremendous explosion.

Gardevoir, however, was nowhere to be found after the attack stopped.

"Watch out Dragonite! Beside you!"

Drake's voice came.

It was too late, though. With a massive ball of Moonblast charging in her hand, Gardevoir teleported next to Dragonite. With a cry, she pressed the energy ball at Dragonite, sending him crashing to the wall of arena.

The referee counted to ten and then raised his flag to Hisoka's side, signalling that they had won the round.

In the following round, Drake released an Electabuzz while Hisoka decided to let Gardevoir rest and went with Rhyperior instead.

After a few bouts of exchange, it became clear that Drake's Electabuzz was no match for Rhyperior, the Ground/Rock-type Pokemon.

"Electabuzz in unable to battle, the winner is Hisoka!"

As the referee announced the result of the battle, the audience woke up. Although they felt the ending was anticlimactic, the crowd nonetheless applauded both trainers for putting on a great display.

As Hisoka and Drake left the ring, the crowd's chants became louder and there were occasional excited yells. Drake murmured a few words of congratulations to Hisoka before leaving him alone to celebrate with the crowd.

Inside the private box in the arena, Lorelei and Yukimura sat next to each other; they had just watched the finals.

"What a great fight!"

Laughing, Yukimura clapped his hands gently.

"It was, yes. Both of them could have made it to the Elite Four."

Lorelei remarked.

"How's that guy? Is there any problem with him?"

Yukimura questioned, pointing at Hisoka.

"There's no problem. I have left his files in the Principal's Office."

Lorelei put her coffee down and took her eyes off the arena.

"Bring him in to meet the Mayor tomorrow."

She said to Yukimura as she got up from her seat.

"That's OK, but are you leaving?"

Yukimura asked.

Lorelei nodded, "Yes, my work here is done. I'm going back to headquarters to report."
