Masking emotions and desires
Cameron snapped his head toward her, eyes widening with surprise as her question hung in the air. "If it's not a girl?" Her voice was soft, but there was a teasing edge to it.
For a moment, he was speechless, unsure of what to say. He hadn't realised she had been listening to his whispered promises. His heart raced as he worried that maybe she was upset, that she hadn't wanted him so close, hadn't wanted him to touch her. He quickly withdrew his hand from her stomach, his body tensing as a wave of guilt washed over him.
"Ava… I—" He stumbled over his words, his expression apologetic. "I just… I wanted to feel our baby. I had no bad intentions, I swear." His voice was full of sincerity, a slight tremble betraying his fear of having overstepped.
